More Steve Alford fun

They are 15-4 and will probably finish 2nd in the Pac 12. Not great but UCLA standards but it's his first year. Not sure how it will end for Alford.

I don't get the criticism he gets for playing Bryce. It's not the same as when Lickliter played his son. Bryce can actually play at that level. He's shooting 43% from 3 point range and has better than a 2/1 a/to ratio. He's had a really solid freshmen year backing up a great player in Anderson.

How Steve Alford's use of Bryce Alford Hurts UCLA

Levine, Adams and Anderson are likely NBA bound after this season. One mock draft has Levine and Anderson as first round picks, while Adams averages more PPG (17.5) than both of them. The Wear twins are out of eligibility. Alfraud will have to replace most of his PPG next season. He's got a couple of nice recruits committed for next year but Alfraud is not much at developing talent, so they had better be able to step right in and produce. Even that will only go as far as Alfraud's coaching will take them. If this was New Mexico....no worries. But it's UCLA. If Alfraud cannot hang a Final Four banner in the rafters by the end of year 4, which we all know he cannot do, it's curtains.

Devilish, delightful and delectable thought....we meet and beat SA in the NCAAs this year by oh, say, 45....and he gets let go immediately thereafter.

That, ladies and gentlemen, should suffice for life-long Hawkeye atonement.

No, you let a guy like Lickliter go - a bad fit for Iowa, but a decent person. The Fraud is a piece of sh!t who was hypocrite that wore his religion on his sleeve.

I always read this and just shake my head. It was pretty widely known, at least I thought it was, that players hated Lick. A decent person doesnt treat Anthony Tucker the way Lick did.

He screwed up, everybody knows that but either boot him off the team or treat him as a member of the team if you decide to keep him. The BS silent treatment that Tucker got for weeks from Lickliter is the most childish, immature thing I have ever heard of a coach doing.

No wonder players were leaving as fast as possible.

wow yeah Iowa fans should really let it go...
Wow yeah NO we don't want to you should learn how to use punctuation so that we might be able to comprehend your next post thanks for offering your albeit nearly incomprehensible opinion really look forward to hearing from you again soon...

That might be enough to exorcise the demon. I'd run through the Ped Mall bare azz naked if that happened. It'd be worth it.

So why is he this or a "scumbag" as other posters have said? Because he wasn't a good coach at Iowa and took a job at NM?

Seems a bit harsh to me. I don't seem to remember him being in anyone's face with his religion. Why was he a hypocrite again? Because there was a rumor he had an affair? That was a only a rumor so why is anyone judging?

He wasn't a great coach and said a few irritating things about Iowa after he left but gee-whiz this hatred is a little over the top.

Ummm....you missed a LOT! Where have you been?

As much as I can't stand the guy, he has a top 10 recruiting class (247sports) signed. Looney is the most interesting of signees as he was a last minute get for ol' wonderboy.

Not a single one of his signed players plays the G position though so I highly doubt they all make it to campus. If all of his signed players actually make it to campus and are eligible, then UCLA is going to have one hell of a team on paper next year albeit very inexperienced. It also depends on who goes pro from this years team.

I find it very interesting that UCLA has three projected NBA players and yet lose to a team outside of the top 100 RPI (Utah) and another loss to a team between 50-100 (Missouri).

Iowa on the other hand has no apparent NBA lottery players and has not lost to a team outside the top 25 RPI.

I would much rather have my team consist of experienced guys who are going to stick around for 4 years then try and rely constantly on underclassmen who will only be around for a year or two.

There is only so many freshmen talented enough each year to make a big impact and most of them head to UK. Get 4 year guys that will be good to great college players and you should consistently win a lot of games and not have the ups and downs that younger teams will have.

Not sure if it's been discussed on HN or not, but if you want another reason to laugh at Alford, watch the ESPN 30 for 30 on Reggie Miller.

For the 1987 draft, a lot of folks were convinced that the Pacers were going to select Alford in round 1. So much so that they had a camera crew at the Alford house for the pick selection. The facial expressions and gestures from Stevie and Tonya are priceless when the Miller selection is announced.

The best part is when they are interviewing some local citizens and some old lady starts crying and proclaiming, "it ain't right". Sorry you missed out on the 744 career points Stevie poured in Grandma.

Talk about contrast. Those articles can't possibly be written about the same person. One is an Alfraud. The other is legit.

Bernstein is not legit. SA is a dick, but so is DB. He is flat out lying when he cites the University report as a source for alleging that SA arranged the meeting between the AIA guy and the victim. Both the AIA guy and SA deny it, and the report does not allege this....yet DB keeps insisting it is fact....sorry, it is not fact until proven and it was never proven. DB is as bad as SA.

he's taking heat for playing his son this year...it's not going to end well for him in Westwood. He's a much better coach with Craig Neal as his assistant.

He should have brought Craig Neal with him to UCLA. The Iowa team certainly got better with Neal's guidance. The thing I noticed first was simply calling timeouts correctly at at the right time. I remember a game at Illinois when we were 10 points ahead, then the Illini started a comeback, they scored 14 straight points and then Alford called a timeout. This was at Illinois and the fans were going nuts. We needed a timeout before they took the lead. We lost a game we had in our hands.....

I have seen his son play two fairly good games but he is not a starter on the UCLA team.....
