Mike Gessel

To be fair, the poster predicting a double-double for Olaseni was roundly mocked by everyone on this board, including the folks that were predicting a 20+ win season. I'd hardly call that a "side"-- more like a lone lunatic.

My expectation for next year is that we're only losing two guys who can really play at the D-1 level (Gatens and Cartwright) and we have replacements lined up for them that we should feel very confident about (Gesell and Oglesby). Add a legitimate post presence that we desperately needed against Purdue (Woodbury) and whatever you get out of Meyer, Clemmons, and Ingram, and you have the makings of a mid-tier Big Ten team. That's all I want. I'm not expecting NCAA tourney-- more like 17-18 wins. If we were to go from 11 wins to 14 to 18 that would be a nice little progression.

I actually expect Ingram to be at least as good if not the best out of all of the freshman.

not saying you will be wrong but he is the lowest rated player of the bunch
i expect bigeer things from them

Woodbury Top 50
Gesell Top 100 prior two year Gotoraide player of the year in Nebraska
Clemmons #1 pg in Michigan and 4th best player in Michigan by the Michigan people
Meyer 4th best player in Georgia rated as by the Georgia media
with Shaq Goodwin being the top player and 5* on all sites
the jury is out on Ingram til the end of his senior year
but he has done very well against top competition as he played against 5* Harris and held him in check til he got into foul trouble, ingram ended up with 20 pts in 19 minutes
so he is no slouch
but as i stated before in another thread he has Marble and Oglesby ahead of him

LOL, OK, gotcha.

I can guarantee you I will not be in any sort of a meltdown mode...ever. At least not till Fran takes a team loaded with pro talent and barely goes over .500 two years in a row while continuing to coach like a disinterested and frightened fat cat. All while being arrogant about it.

I do not expect to make the NCAA tourney next year.

I do expect that Iowa will have a roster of players who are actually deserving of big ten scholarships for the first time in about 5 years.

losing season. Expectations Seriously? Meltdown? Are you kidding? Iowa bball has had four straight aren't that high buddy.

Have you seen some of the idiots on this board? Not at all directing that at you, but there are some real whack jobs here that will meltdown if Woodbury and Gesell dont play well next year.

Are you new to the board?

The Trey Burke 3* thing doesn't really mean too much to me, because Fran recruited him. Until Fran leads me astray, I'll believe any recruit he goes after either is ready to go or has tremendous potential. Fran went after Trey Burke= me thinking he is going to be pretty good.

Whether 2* or 5*, the fact that Fran went to EVERY one of Woodbury and Gessel's game for AAU speak volumes for their potential.

It would be nice for Gessel to come in and have a Burke-like impact.

In a perfect world he could redshirt the first year but it isn't. He might start off coming off the bench but if he is this good he will easily crack the starting lineup by the end of the year. Fran will put out the ones that give Iowa the best chance to win.
I will go on record right now stating that Gesell will not be coming off the bench or redshirt. He will absolutely be the starter in game one of his college career.

I agree Mike will start. However, i think Marble still gets minutes at the 1. I think there is usually a common denominator with successful freshman. I think they usually have successful upperclassmen around them.

1) Gessell/Marble
2) Marble/Oglesby
3) Marble/White/May
4) Basabe/Meyer/Mccabe
5) Woodbury/Meyer/ Olesani

I think we will have enough experience on the team that the freshman will be successful.

Seriously, it's not hard.

It's Ge + sell.

Gesell.

He's a Hawkeye now, fans gotta try to get that right.

Even if Iowa itself has issues:

Olaseni will not be the 3rd option at center
nor do i see McCabe as a 3rd option at the 4
i am excited by the progress by Marble and McCabe
but i am more excited to see how much progress White, Oglesby and Olaseni make
as for next years incoming recruits i expect Woodbury and Gesell to make the biggest impact as they fill a greater need
depending upon Olaseni's progress the center spot is the biggest need
Gesell also fills a big need
Marble has and will continue to improve, he's turning into a star before our eyes, he is proving his ability and the comment made by a couple posters that he won't do much in BT play will have a lot of crow to eat
these kids that Fran are getting and got are so much better than we have gotten people need to seriously rethink Iowa BB talent

its crazy how u have to Google someone's name around here to make sure u spell it right. pretty rediculous

some people don't pull up a 2nd screen to check their spelling
some like myself go on how it sounds, if i am not sure about the spelling
misspelling happens
people need to learn how to deal with it rather than saying anything about it

For sure, I mean John Venderberg at QB is going to be good tonight, it's too bad Markus Koker is out. As long as Tyler Nelson is good to go and Sean Pratur are healthy, it'll be ok.

Get it?

I'm not ******** and moaning about misspelling trichinosis or catharsis, I'm talking about an Iowa recruit. Someone who is going to be playing at Iowa for 4 years, probably should be getting his name right. Yeah?

there is a difference in adding a "s" to Gesell and mispelling a name like you did on purpose, for right now of a spelling of "Gessell" vs "Gesell" is nothing to get excited about a dbl keystroke of the "s" is very easy to do and most i believe don't have spell check
nor do a lot of poster dbl check their spelling

as for Ingram i am not putting the kid down nor am i doubting his ability
its just that Fran is getting the talent needed to field a competetive team
as well as quality depth

Except it was spelled Gessel.

oh like the pr department got "Oglesby" vs the pr spelling of "Ogelsby" name right on his jersey in your post to correct somebody else's spelling
just prove my point "people make mistakes"
