Michigan Game Plan

I will start this by saying that I do not coach football and I realize that the coaches at Iowa know more about football than I do.

Offensively - This will probably be the best defense Iowa faces this year and I just don't see how Iowa will be able to run the ball. I am not saying completely abandon the run, but Iowa needs to come out throwing early and often. Play with tempo on some of the series. Spread the field and let CJ throw it around, really what is there to lose? The down side to this is that CJ will probably take a beating but I don't see any other way Iowa will be able to move the ball. They did a nice job of getting Wadley the ball in space late in the game against PSU and they will need to do this all game against Michigan. No way Iowa stands a chance in this game if they don't put up at least 30 points.

Defensively - Sell out to stop the run. Stopping Michigan's offense is going to be a tall order and if Iowa is to stand a chance they need to make Michigan one dimensional. Iowa needs lots of run blitzes and they are going to need to play some man coverage. When Iowa manages to get Michigan in third and long, they need to bring a backup safety in and put him in Bower's spot. Bower can help the defense if the coaching staff has him play in more traditional running situations. The defense will need to take chances and live with getting beat with the big play a few times this game.

Now what I think is going to happen is that Iowa will come out with the same game plan that they have used every game this season. Pound the ball inside and try to out physical Michigan which isn't going to happen. Try to run into the brick wall that is Michigan's front seven on third and short. Defensively we all know that Iowa is going to sit in a 4-3 and try to out execute Michigan despite them having superior talent. This is what drives me crazy about Iowa football and the coaching staff. I can't help but think of Einstein's definition of Insanity when I watch Iowa's schemes against teams with superior talent.

Ok, so now you can tell me how little I know about football and how I am just a hater.

Looks good to me.
I was actually praying for a snow storm but that is not in the forecast.

The underlying failure is a combination of Kirk's style of play coupled with the Staff's lack of recruiting success. The BEST thing Nick Saban did was hire Lane Kiffin to re-vamp his offense now they are scary on both sides of the ball and have the best recruits. Since we are NEVER going to have the best recruits you have to do something with the offensive and defensive coaching. BUT you DO have to compete on the recruiting front and being 9-12th in your Rivals ranking in your own conference over a period of years you get what you get. It's really depressing to think how bad are recruiting has been.

It's all set up for an Iowa win. Kirk and co. were embarrassed last week and will have them ready to go and Michigan has to be over-confident, especially if they watched our game film vs. Penn St..

KF plays it close and conservative as the Hawks get several players into the NFL.. Iowa wins by a negative 35 points.

Iowa's going to get killed. My only request is that they actually show some spine and are ready to put some helmets on some bodies the second Harbaugh shows signs of running up the score. At least stand up for yourselves, boys.

Michigan can run the ball every single play and they will still run up the score.

Our gameplan?

1st Down -- Stretch Run to short side of the field (We audible into this play)
2nd Down -- Stretch Run
3rd Down -- Attempted Screen Pass
4th Down -- Punt, PR for TD

We will do nothing different. Even if we wanted to, this staff isn't the best at adapting and making new changes. We also don't have the players to just up and change everything. If it hasn't happened yet, it won't.

CJ is going to take a beating assuming every pass of his isn't a 1 second dump off to Wadley (as opposed to our 3 yard out patterns to WR or Wadley)

I think Michigan puts close to 70 points on us.

And you still live in a world where you think Hillary won the election correct?

To the OP, unfortunately Iowa is going up against the best secondary in the nation. They won't be able to throw it all around. They couldn't do it against lesser teams they aren't going to do it against Michigan.
Iowa's real problem this years is controlling the LOS and TOP. Iowa keeps losing time of possession. The key will somehow get them selves in 3rd and short and move the chains and keep Michigan O off the field the best it can. If they can't do that, they won't have a chance. They have to find a way to get 7 yrds on first and second down.

KF idea of a new scheme wrinkle is the jet sweep or trying a flee flicker. I would not at all be shocked if we try one against Michigan knowing KF's tendencies. Big games call for the big one off plays in the back of the playbook that we never look at running in any other games. When it utterly fails we will not see it again this year. Back to running full bore into the dline and throwing on 3rd down 3 yards short of the sticks.

RIP CJ. If he leaves the game in one piece I'll consider that a win. The only wrinkle in the game plan we'll see this weekend is a wrinkle on GD's flacid pen!$

The reason we have no chance in this game is the same reason we lose so many games to bad teams. The head coach's thoughts on beating a team as bad as you can.

The reason we were able to beat Penn State in '08 was because their coach was like kirk, willing to play a lose game. Harbaugh not so much. When a team over matches another team so badly and they have a coach that try to destroy you, the odds of winning are extemely low. That sucks for this game, but it sucks more for all the games Kirk lost over the years by not employing this strategy.
