He missed a bunny and didn't go up strong enough on a drive earlier. Other than that, I thought he played solid minutes.
He is not good, plain and simple. He does pout pretty good after every turnover and missed shot though.
Marble needs to change his form on free throws. His right foot is on the line and he keeps his left foot back. If you notice, he clanks a lot of them off the back iron due to this. He needs to try lining up with both feet on the line.
Believe me, I wasn't a great player in high school but the one thing I could do was shoot free-throws and this is why he's struggling. Hope he reads this somehow and tries to change.

You mean just like May, except McCabe is not missing dunks also...
What? Who shoots with their feet both on the line? This would feel incredibly awkward, you're supposed to have your right foot ahead of your left if you shoot right handed.
McCabe gives us intangibles. He is always battling for boards and loose balls and just gets after it. He gets himself in trouble by trying to do too much. I think he gets a bunch of bs fouls called against him. Some of those situations he is forcing the issue.
I do get frustrated with the missed bunnies, wow. the boy can stroke it from the 3 point line and i cant wait for him to find that stroke. Early in the season I attributed it to adjusting to the pase of the game, but we should be past that point by now.
When all is said and done he will have a fine career as a Hawkeye, a solid role player.
Didn't feel ackward for me anyway. OK maybe you don't have to have the left foot on the line but at least closer than he does. To have your right foot so far forward from your left causes you to shoot it with less arc and that's why, in my opinion, he clanks a lot of them off of the back rim.
No, didn't hit any home runs-wasn't a stud athlete at all-just a good free throw shooter.
But who am I kidding? Not like Marble is going to listen to me.
McCabe is a freshman who is having to play/contribute more than we would would like, because of the lack of depth that Lick left Fran with. Heck we didn't have enough kids last year to play 5 vs. 5!
I think next year we will see more what he can do with an offseason to work on some things. Next year looks much brighter, as Fran will have more options, and more competition for playing time. White could push McCabe. Cully could push Cartwright/ or for time at the 2 spot. Marble could push Gatens/May for more time. Hopefully we can sign another big and they will push Brommer/Archie......Competition and depth will allow Fran to push the tempo even more next year.....
I don't think having your left foot to far from free throw line causes you to shoot with less arc, causing clanks on back of rim. Other adjustments can be made to help free throw percentage, but i don't feel moving left foot forward will fix the complete problem. Key is to be comfortable, balanced and consistent on your free throw form and shots will fall. I personally wouldn't be comfortable with foot way behind the line, but that is my preference.
Ask Jeff Hornacek how it worked out for him having his left foot way off line. Always thought his form looked awkward and uncomfortable, but it was effective for him.
I kinda think he is in there to play rough and foul a little bit. He's the guy that opposing teams hate. He's a *****...and I like it. He'll get better.
Did you watch a different game then I???? From the 15 minute mark in the 2nd half until the 9 minute mark that was the line up and then is when we played our worse basketball...even Fran mentioned it in the post game presser. No reason May and Gatens are on the bench for a 6 minute stretch. Love Fran but there must of been some reason...I can't point to any stat or skill, but he must do something right, as the Hawks seem to play really well when he is on the floor. The Cartwright/Marble/McCabe/Basabe/Cole lineup was great for us tonight. And I really like the rotation McCaffery has developed. Eveyone has a defined role and it seems like players have a good sense of when they'll be called on to get in the game. He is great at getting guys into the flow of the game.
Some of you need to take a step back and evaluate this objectively. HE IS A FRESHMAN! Until our recent transfer epidemic, most freshman saw very limited playing time. You shouldn't expect too much of him at this time. He's also playing in a loaded conference.
I actually like his game a lot. He will hit some 3's before his career is over--a lot of them. He will be drastically improved next year. Give him some time.
Hmmm. At times he looks like a thug. Dirty after-the-play type stuff bothers me. That isn't Iowa basketball. It's also the reason refs are NEVER going to give him a break (That, and his incessant whining after every call).
Don't agree. He is in way over his head and should not be in the big ten. You can have all these Iowa 3A and 4A sensations and I will take Cartwright, Basabe, Kelly, etc., all day long. The level of high school ball in Iowa pales in comparison to other states. The kids don't face the same competition, so their games consist of bombing wide open threes or posting up 5"8 defenders.
Until we can land the Paiges, Barnes, etc., I am fine letting the in state kids go elsewhere. We are too far behind the rest of the conference to load up on kids that don't have the quicks and hops to compete on the court. Basabe would average 30 ppg, 20 rpg and 10 bpg if he played Iowa high school ball. In NY, he was a relative unknown with offers from Siena and other small programs. Somebody dunks in Iowa high school ball and people are clamoring for the Hawks to offer. I get the whole state pride deal, but we can add role players/ 3 point specialists after we get the talent level up a couple of notches.

I could see other teams fans not liking him.
Here is what I like about McCabe
1. Aggressive: yes he makes mistakes but I like seeing a non tentative freshman.
2. Size: A true 6'6
3. Shot: Looks nice, but he does have too slow of a release.
Here is what I don't like about McCabe
1. Foot speed: wow he just cant move his feet fast enough out on the perimeter
2. Shot: needs a quicker release
3. Size: Wish he was a tad taller to be a true inside player as he really is more of a 4 than a 3 really based on this thickness and foot speed
4. Jumping: Does not jump that quick or well.
I think he will have a fine career as a bit player. I don't really see him as a starter but he can come in and give some energy and minutes.
