Matt Campbell Ohio State's next head coach

visited the OSU rivals board. There's a piece titled "who's next". Campbell is on the list. So are PJ Fleck and Chris Ash... so....

If Urb is a goner, much of his staff will be too. fOSU would operate under an interim coach this season. If Campbell sniffs 8 wins this season, fOSU will drive to Ames in a truck full of money and throw Campbell in the back.

I'd say the odds of Campbell wandering around the sidelines of The Shoe in his abused ball cap are about equal to the odds of him stalking the turf of Joke Trice.

If Urb is fired the odds rise to about 90%

ISU had Lazard, a pretty good o-lineman and a bunch of Rhodes holdovers on defense that were seniors last year. It will take a miracle on par with walking on water for him to sniff 8 wins this year. I really question his judgment in not bouncing last year. ISU has demonstrated that once a guy can string together a couple of seasons over .500 their fans become delusional and go ballistic if they have a bad year or two.

Whoever takes the job....save your money and expect to be fired/resign under pressure. The recent history is ominous.....

Fesler--resigned after three years (stating too much pressure to win)
Woody--fired (the punch)
Bruce--fired (didn't win enough)
Cooper--fired (didn't beat UM enough)
Fickell--one year then demoted (went 6-7)
Tressel--suspended for five games/fired (bling gate)(OK, some say he resigned...sure)
UM--on the verge of being fired/resigning (swing gate)

Yep, meanwhile the coaching contrast at Iowa since not long after Woody was canned is golden:

Hayden retired on his own terms-in the CF Hall of Fame/Kirk will retire on his own terms and a good bet to be in the CFHF.

Is Kirk not currently the longest tenured coach in CFB? I think he was #2 for some time because Stoops got hired a few days before him when our admin dragged their feet, but now that Stoops has retired, Kirk should be #1. Not too many teams have had the stability Iowa has had with Hayden and Kirk.

campbell would actually be a logical choice, also. young, up and coming, clean record with record of success. campbell could get a long term deal and ride out the down turn that will come. more established coaches may not want to step into that. OSU gets a coach that if he is as good as some thing, he could wind up being a long term steal of a coach. if this is campbell's dream job, he could stick for 10+ years if successful.

with being a second or third or 4th thought football school, they get the shaft all the time. they certainly do get it.
Also read that they think that ISU is a better job than OSU because of job security and being able to be immortalized at ISU, where you're just second-guessed and can never do what hasn't already been done at OSU. Just the flavor of the month in Columbus is what one poster said.

Just looking forward to the Hawks kicking their ass on September 8. And what happens to all this talk if they stumble against a decent SDSU team in week 1??????

ROFL! now desperation to keep a coach is job security? LOL

Campbell blew off the media about it this morning as one would expect... But has anyone seen his wife lately? I bet her plane just landed in Columbus and she's out house shopping this afternoon.

If Campbell has a good season he might get the job. Now, he goes 4-8 not near as likely. Young coaches stock rise very quickly and fall every bit as quickly. time will tell.
