Matt and Miller Twitter

Matt, I listen to your show at times when passing through central Iowa. Could you tell me in a 1 hour period how much time you guys are actually on the air. It seems to me you have a 6-7 minutes of news at the top and bottom of the hour, and then a ton of commercials the rest of the time. You seem to have a pretty good gig in the amount of time you actually work in a day. Does it equate to about a hour a day. I know some here at HN probably think thats to much time for you to be on the air, but could you actually tell me how much air time you guys have per hour.

How come a guy is on a Hawkeye Message board who is a lover of Drake? If you went to Drake, that's cool but shouldn't you say you are a Hawkeye fan first? That's the issue I have with Valley fans in DSM.

Drake fans need to be Drake fans...UNI etc....maybe I'm just off but that's more logical to me. I sorry you don't like the show but maybe it's cause you like Drake and I'm a Creighton guy?

Either or - thanks for those who do listen and follow. My personal twitter will be much different than the Matt and Miller Twitter. The new one is purely about the show...

Matt, this is purely spitballing, but maybe the "93" in DrakeBulldog93 means that he/she graduated in that year. Maybe.

For the whole show - a period of 3 hours - there isn't any way that the actual time Matt and Ken spend on the air is over 2 hours.

Yesterday was a good example. 11 minutes of commercials/promos/highlights before they actually came on air, break at 425, back on at 433, more commercials around 450, and then a 45 second or so "segment" at the end of the hour, followed by another 11 minutes of commercials.

So looking at that, it would seem that in an hour, Matt and Ken might be on the air for 30 minutes. I know that if you do the math in that example that it comes out to 22, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. There isn't a chance in hell that it's over 30 minutes though.

Actually, it's somewhere between 39-43 minutes each hour, with no traffic updates in the 6 o'clock being the reason that the final hour has more talk time.

Ken, thanks for the info. You do a great job. It gets a little frustrating at times when you guys get on a good topic and then there is the break. It seems as though the station has a abnormaly high amount of news and commercials.

Matt used to be on AM 590 in Omaha. I think he's originally from Boston. If I'm not mistaken he used to do the broadcasts for Creighton games, don't know if he still does.

BTW, have any of you been to the Qwest center in Omaha where Creighton plays? It's like a freaking NBA arena. No wonder Altman won't leave.

The podcast doesn't have any commercials:
Des Moines' Sports Station - 1460 KXNO

I'm out of range of KXnO, and I listen to Miller and Deace this way, too. Good stuff, no commercials:
Des Moines' Sports Station - 1460 KXNO

btw, Matt, stop replying on this message board. You are only digging yourself a hole. And yes, you are a hater. Just admit it and move on.

Ha Ha. Classic.

I'm a hater. Yup. You've got me.

BTW - I was the pre/post game show host for Creighton. I run their rivals site now. Next year CU plays Iowa State in Des Moines. How bout Iowa vs CU in 2011 at Wells?

Why would Iowa play Creighton in Des Moines? Makes no sense.

It's about as neutral as you could get travel wise, I think Des Moines to Omaha is about the same as it is to IC so it wouldn't be that hard to travel for Creighton or Iowa fans even though most Hawks fans that would be in attendance probably live in the Des Moines metro area. I would love to see the Hawks and Creighton play at Wells Fargo Arena.

I think you're overestimating that just a bit. You guys don't even come on the air until 8 after, and it was 12 after yesterday.

Correct. Make Creighton go to Iowa City if they want to play the Hawks. Iowa will all ready have to go to Ames in 2011, there isn't any reason for them to make another trip back this way to play Creighton.

12 after? what station you on man. We've never come back that late...ever...

You're right...yesterday it was 11 after when you actually came on the air. I don't count the 3 minute highlight package of the NFC championship that you thought needed to be heard twice as air time. It's been that way the entire football season, at least on Mondays. But hey, at least you had the music turned down enough yesterday that you could hear Paul Allens voice.

The central point is that the length of commercial breaks on KXNO is riduclous, as is the format that the hour is broken up into. Why do you guys come out of a commercial break at 2 or 3 minutes before the hour, have a 1 or 2 minute segment, and then have another 8 minutes of commercials?

You realize that when that music liner runs - that's our show! So you mean when we start talking...fine - it's 11 but that's a fun start to the show every monday
