Maryland 2-Point Favorite Against Hawkeyes Tonight

2 points? I'm one of the most optimistic people around but I have a hard time believing that we keep it within 10. Of course I hope I'm wrong. I'm not a betting man but if I was I'd put a lot on MD.
If they are looking for action that might do it. If I were a MD fan I'd be all over it. I can't bet against our boys. But you can't make me bet on them either. I have a bad feelin about tonight. Hope I'm wrong.

I learned the one time that I bet on Iowa that if I was to bet again, I would always bet against them. That way if Iowa wins, I'm happy. If they lose, hey, at least I made a few bucks.

The only time I ever bet on Iowa, they were +2.5 at Illinois in 2008 - anyone that remembers the last 3 minutes of the game can understand why I never bet again.

Yup yup. I feel for ya. It'd make me feel yucky to bet against them. And I feel bad enough as it is when they lose. To lose my $ on them if not only on the games when I'm really confident in the outcome like you were then I'd be in slitting my wrists territory. I'm just not a lucky guy by nature and so....

Something to keep in mind:

Maryland has played one true road game this season. It lost at Penn State, which I'm sure was a less hostile environment than the Palestra. Its other game away from College Park was against Seton Hall in Newark off campus. It lost that one as well.

1 road game?? Seems like all we've played is road games.

The Hawkeyes have played two home games (Minnesota and Kennesaw St.) since heading to Vegas for Thanksgiving tournament. Eight of the last 10 have been away from CHA.

Wouldn't be shocked at all to see Iowa win tonight. They just aren't going to shoot that badly from outside all time. The quick turn around has me more worried then anything. It's hard to win on the road, I believe if MD does win it will be a 1 or 2 possession kind of deal down to the wire.

Now this, particularly with Iowa's current ineptitude at making 2 point conversions, is an absolutely filthy loss.

What time is that snowstorm supposed to hit IC? Wonder if it will effect attendance.

In general our schedule has been brutal from a travel perspective. It’s nice to play some games at home, especially when you’re undermanned. I would add though that CHA is not the greatest in terms of a home court advantage compared to other venues in this league.

This line stinks and above is the only thing/reason that I can put my finger on why the spread is so low. But I also don't put a lot of stock into it as there isn't a large sample size. Furthermore, Carver isn't an intimidating place and the weather tonight may likely hurt the crowd attendance.

I'm fairly convinced this Hawkeye team is just flawed and out matched from a player stand point without JBo and now CJ. Garza has a difficult matchup tonight as well.

I don't see how laying 2 points on Maryland is a bad bet.

Iowa isn’t going to get as many easy looks as against Nebraska either. That was a gimmick defense but the principles of doubling off our non shooters will remain.

Maryland is the type of team Iowa already struggled with. Quick PG athletic big men and athletic wings. Think a better Depaul.

If Iowa continues to play mediocre to poor defense this will be an easy Maryland win I imagine.

Greene got his 100 yards rushing on that TD too if I remember right.

If I were playing Iowa, I would let Smith start on Garza 1-1 and not double. Garza may get his but I'd put it all on his shoulders and put the best perimeter defender on Joe W.

Essentially I'd bet that if can contain Joe W and even if Garza has 25 or even 30, I still don't see enough scoring coming from the supporting cast to win.

Garza - 25
Joe W - 15

Even if 2 have 40, where do 30-35 more points come from? I just don't see it.

Joe T- 8
Connor - 5
Kriener - 8
Bakari - 8

Weird that Vegas knows to not over react to one bad showing.
Vegas apparently didn’t know CJF was hurt and the guys were tired the other night though when Iowa was favored by 8.5.

Honestly I think Vegas probably uses some of the metrics like kenpom and others to cap these games. In that sense I do think there is a bit of an arbitrage opportunity here. With that said I’m awful at betting and Iowa will somehow win this.... I just really don’t see how with what we have in the cupboard.

Thanks for reminding me. I'll be rolling in the minivan tonight, so it could be hairy even though it's only across town.

I think it will affect attendance tonight. Students still are on break. Most of the high school events in the state have been postponed tonight.

Exactly... I think this an opportunity because Iowa looks better on paper. I don't think most novice bettors likely understand how much different of a team this is just by losing one guy because we have no guards coming off the bench. You also look at Luka who's been dominating but I still anticipate he has some regression without having the shooters around him.

If I was fine betting against the hawks, I would have bet the farm against them after watching the Penn State game play out.
