Wow... How the heck did his waiver not get approved? This whole waiver process and outcome by the NCAA is getting super ridiculous.

That would seem like the best case/argument for an immediate waiver as there is.
NCAA, IRS, SEC(securities exchange not southest conf), FDA, etc etc.... "open to interpretation" and "case by case" are their favorite catch-all terms. I've worked directly with 2 if them....and its maddening.
Hope for the best, expect the worst. Game day on Saturday regardless!

so just WTF do the people in the NCAA compliance office do all day? The season is about to start...lots of players, including Martin, still unresolved. Money (and as such, manpower) is no issue...they have ample resources to get this done.

Turns out, it's harder to get a waiver when a kid is taking care of a sick/disabled family member than when a kid doesn't like a new OC or DC. The NCAA is a joke.

I know this is gonna hurt some of your feelings but honestly if he makes the right choice right away, he’s playing this year. Aka go to Iowa right away!! On the other hand what does the NCAA get out of making kids wait like this. I don’t get it. There can’t be thousands of kids trying to transfer right now? That tells me they are having a tough time finding, yes finding, a way to tell OM to kick rocks and sit out this year. But again, if he has to sit out this year it’s karma saying make better decisions dude. Long story short, at this point I’m fine with our receivers without him, would be nice to have him but I’m ready for football and I like 4/5 guys we have without Martin. I’ll never get over someone picking Harbaugh over Ferentz. That’s tough.

Yep, that was probably the main reason. Then throw in that the WR tradition at Iowa has to be one of the worst in the conference for producing NFL talent and you can't really blame him for gong elsewhere first. I think Tim Dwight was the last receiver to catch a pass in the NFL back in like 2007 and he's in his 40s now. The last WR to get drafted was McNutt in 2012. Before that it was Kahlil Hill in 2002. That's pretty brutal for as good as the Iowa program has been as a whole.

Talked to my person again today, he says he has no idea why it hasn't been announced yet but stands by what he said before, that OM told him he was cleared. Said maybe OM told him before based on what his lawyer told him. I also floated the theory that there may be some hoops that have to be jumped through before it can be made official and he agreed that was possible. Not sure what to think at this point, but the original piece of info stands: OM told his inner circle that he was going to play this fall. Could he have just been boasting? I don't know OM personally so I can't weigh in on that.

This actually makes sense, if the rumors are true that the NCAA cleared him and now we are just waiting on the B1G to do so as well. Plus I can’t believe that KF would still be moving forwards with plans to play Martin if they weren’t 95% positive this is just a rubber stamp they are waiting for at this point.
