Gone are the days of simply attending a presser then writing an article about it that breaks the news in the next day's newspaper. Now sports journalists have to tweet out everything being said on the spot because numerous others are doing the same. Then some write an article about it later with a bit more detail but the key points are mostly already known by fanatics. The profession has evolved immensely the last 20 years.
I can see how things like this would irritate someone in Rob's shoes. Having random internet posters leaking information that may or may not be true would be super annoying when trying to do one's job, even if it brings in a lot of traffic to the site. It basically forces one to have to reach out to legit sources and constantly bug them about the topic because if they don't, then they are trailing behind what could be a big story.
It can be a tricky situation as well as you don't want to constantly bug sources about things that are false, that could lead to losing those relationships and in turn losing good sources. Those relationships that have most likely been built over years are the foundation of a journalist's career. Jeopardizing that because a random poster posts something on their message board would be super irritating.
I'm not taking shots at anybody or trying to put words in Rob's mouth here. I'm just laying out a perspective on how Rob might see it from his point of view.
