Marcus Smart shoves a fan

They confirmed that smart said he said it. Do they have audio because it has also been confirmed that the fan said he didn't.

Even if they did, you think Smart reacted appropriately to lash out in a violent manner?

So when is the line crossed? When would it be appropriate for a player to "lash out in a violent manner?" What if the fan pulled a gun? What a fan ran on the court and attacked a player? I'm just trying to understand at what point is a player allowed to use physical force to defend himself.

Of course the guy is going to say he didn't say what he said.

The way Fanatics think they are entitled to treat college "Kids" is a joke. Smart shoved him, its not like it was a full on attack. In the heat of a moment have you never reacted emotionally and made a mistake? We all have.

I have no respect for the clown sitting in row one yelling at college kids, but I do understand how Smart reacted the way he did.

Of course Smart is going to say he said it, he has to defend his actions somehow...

My point being, we don't know what was said, there is no proof. Until there is, it's all just speculations on our part..

Nope. I have ice in my veins. Smart could learn a few things.

Smarts back was to the fans. How does he even know who said anything when he rushes?

I'm just going start going around shoving people every time they say something I don't like..

I've read a few places on OSU board that just before the push the fans says
"I'm sorry about that." And then gets shoved.

it does appear he said that.........so what did he say before that where he felt he needed to apologize for?

There is a giant leap between yelling something at someone and pulling a gun on them.

This thread is awesome. Inject race into something and people go crazy.

If you had a son and you were sitting him down to talk about acceptable behavior as an athlete, when would you advise your son that it is OK to leave the court of play and assault a fan?

Still wish smart would have judo chopped that she-man lookin' tubbster instead of just pushing him.... bummer

So we should teach the athlete to ignore everything but the fan can do what they want? Think of all that fans say and do...I am surprised things like this don't happen more often. Fans cross the line of proper actions all the time and nothing happens to them what are we as fathers and mothers teaching these people that when they grow up they think it is ok to do the things they do to athletes that are trying to play a game that many fans take too seriously.

did Marcus smart screw up...yes.

did the fan cross a line...yes.

anything a fan says or does should stay related to the game...no personal attacks that is wrong...chant air ball. That makes sense. Calling someone the n-word or other things isn't ok...yet go to a game and listen to what some say to these players. It is despicable. And like I said before I am amazed more players don't do things like this and shows that they are better people than the fans that spout off at them.

Yes, we should teach the athlete to ignore everything. Yes, we should teach our children to act in an appropriate manner at sporting events.

He probably will get suspended a game... but the chubby redneck guy needs consequences... Fans can't be yelling n***** from the stands... what is this 1925?

I'm kind of lolling though because smart did push the guy but it was a love tap.

However he still should get suspended a game just for being dumb.

In the future go to security... point the guy out. Could have probably gotten him escorted out of the game.... or just ignored it - however I don't necessarily think that's right either.... in 2014 shouldn't have to ignore racial slurs at a college basketball game.

Exactly. Tell the refs. Fans CAN be ejected from a game.
