Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend... is a Hoax

Can we have a fake Heisman ceremony and award him the fake trophy that he deserves to go on his fake trophy case? Or can we just move him up our fake NFL draft boards since he obviously shows no fake character flaws. What a piece of work.

LSU Freek has a really good gif on the topic but it includes a woman's naked behind so I won't post it in fear of getting Scorpioed.

That poor girl in the photo. Hope she isn't taking it to hard that she is becoming a part of all of these memes.

Definition of irrelevant: when the story of a fake girlfriend is a bigger than the confession of Lance Armstrong.

I would say that the Te'o story is more relevant and interesting than the Lance Armstrong story.

Does anyone actually care about the Tour de France? America just pretended to care when an American was winning and had an "overcoming the odds" story. Unless the media was in the locker room with the cyclists there would have been no way of fact checking (at the time) that all of them were using PEDs.

The Te'o story is more interesting because it is yet another example of how pathetic the national news media is (particularly ESPN and sports writers in general).

It is also more interesting because it is potentially implicates Notre Dame in a coverup since they knew about Te'o lying (not a hoax) prior to the dead spin article.

It is also more interesting because a Heisman candidate was using a made up story to get more press.

Best case scenario: It is also more interesting because he is a Mormon attending a Catholic school who may in fact be gay. I'm not saying that he is gay, but I think that reasonable people can start to ask questions about why a 20-something adult would make up a girl friend. Or tell everyone that you have a girlfriend that you have never actually met.

Worst case scenario: He is a sociopath who used the story for publicity, and also an idiot for not thinking anyone would find out.

You nailed it all, spot on.

Most athletes go to school to play sports and meet women. Manti went to school to play sports and meet girlfriends that don't exist online. The good news is I'm assuming there is now a line a mile long at the local library/internet cafe of people who are ready to create new love interests for him in the hopes that he'll fall in love with their made up identity.

Whether he's a victim of a hoax or not he's definitely a victim of missing brain cells and should be used as the next case study for multiple concussions and their effects on football players. You're the face of ND football and you can't score a real chick? Has ND fallen that far since they fell from grace?

Teammate of Manti Te'o says player played up girlfriend angle - ESPN

Dan Tudesco, a 2006 graduate who now works in public relations in New York, set up an online account at fundraising website indiegogo.com on Jan. 9 to solicit $5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Inc. The initial pitch said donations would go to the society in memory of Lennay Kekua and in honor of Te'o, "two individuals who have been an inspiration to us through an iconic season."

Tudesco said he and three friends got the fundraising idea after seeing a video that went viral of Te'o holding his head in dismay during the Irish's 42-14 loss to Alabama in the national championship game.

The goal was to turn the loss -- and the player's sudden popularity -- into something positive.

"I think we were all kind of disappointed in the result of the game ... and the Manti story was very inspirational," Tudesco told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Notre Dame took notice of Tudesco's tweets about the fund drive and sent a university videographer to shoot an interview with him. The video was posted on the Notre Dame athletics YouTube channel Tuesday.

Tudesco said he didn't believe Notre Dame was aware of the hoax when it promoted his fundraiser.

"It would surprise me that Notre Dame would want to promote this if they knew something like this was going on," Tudesco said.

However, Notre Dame officials said Wednesday that they became aware of the hoax on Dec. 26, nearly two weeks before the championship game. University spokesman Dennis Brown didn't immediately respond to a request seeking comment Thursday.

Just when I was hoping not to hear much about ND in the offseason, the whole thing still stinks with the fundraiser article that was posted, to all the players claiming to meet the made up girlfriend, how is that explained now?

F'ing ND, hate them and it sickens me they are again in the news, just pukeworthy.

I am starting to believe that Te'o wasn't in on the initial hoax. He appears to just got manure for brains.
Manti Te'o wondered in 2010 if Lennay Kekua situation was 'a prank' - ESPN
"She told me she played volleyball at Stanford, and that she was an aspiring model, and that she modeled for Victoria's Secret,"
Message to everyone in the entire world, if a "girl" reaches out to you on the interwebs, and says she models for Victoria's Secret, there is less than 0% chance that she is "real."

Where Te'os shadyness comes in is that he lied about everything to play up the relationship as real, and to get mass sympathy later on. After watching the way he played in the title game, it will be interesting to see if he ever recovers from being the biggest joke in the history of the internet.

It still doesn't explain the people that said they met her and claimed she was real.

There is so much about this that is shady, it still makes it very difficult to believe.

If he had suspicions about her, let see he met her online, so he knows how to use the internet...do a Google Search maybe?
