i remember a funny looking unathletic white dude about the same height
he had a h@ll of a NBA career
even played for midmajor team
played the 3 spot in college and the pro's
had a mediocre 1st 3 years in college then had one heck of senior year
ended up a 1st round pick
oh by the way the funny looking unathletic white dude was Larry Bird

If White doesn't become Larry Bird it's on you.

i will take the blame for jinxing him
but i feel Fran will get the best out of him
to me the success of a coach
it's not just about the wins and losses
but it is how well the players develope under him and his staff

Good Lord. Comparing Aaron White to Larry Bird is almost as idiotic as saying White has reached his ceiling.

FYI ... Larry Bird only played 3 years in college and was pretty good (OK, he was great) in all 3.

but he was a slow, funny looking, and unathletic white dude
my post is no more ridiculos than the one that says White has reached his ceiling, I need a sarcasim meter for some of my posts so that people can be forewarned of a sarcastic post, in response to a idiotic post

I'm simply stating that he has already gotten all he can squeeze out of his god given talents. Good for him. But as a Big 10 program we need more.

Matt Gatens is one of our best players but has he improved much in his 4 years here? He was one of those kids that showed up and had already maxed out his potential. White is a lesser version of Gatens.

What on earth would lead you in any way at all to believe that in the limited minutes he has seen that White has maxed his potential ten games into his true freshman season?

Thats the most counter intuitive illogical take I think Ive ever heard.

Seriously what is the though process here because it makes absolutely no sense?

The dude probably has more potential than anyone else on the team.

Ill help you out since I clearly know more about basketball and have more common sense than you. White has the potential to be very good. I can confidently say that just by what Ive seen so far.

He has good height and length, good quickness, good hops, good ball handling, passing and shooting skills.

What he lacks is strength and experience.

While I agree that both extremes of this debate are beyond silly, I really question the bolded.

He does not have good quickness. He is very slow side to side. He does jump pretty decent but laterally he is slow for the Big 10. His jumper is below average as well.

Here's my point and I'll leave it at that. White isn't big or strong enough to guard 4's in the Big 10 and isn't quick enough to hang with 3's. He's a classic tweener. And he isn't quick enough to take advantage of when 4's guard him on the peremiter either.

He's not the most talented player on the team and that's absurd to even say. He may be the most surprising b/c from a looks standpoint he doesn't look like he can even dribble. But he has some skills but they aren't elite enough to make up for his weaknesses.

Aaron is 11 for 32 in games we have lost this year. Imagine what he will do when we play even better competition.

I seem to recall White getting around several defenders from the perimeter. I think he will be more than quick enough.

There needs to be a policy put in place whereby either a competency test or drug test is required to be taken before you can post on this site. Some of these posts are simply mind numbing.

the strength and conditioning he is getting now is light years ahead of what he got in HS
he will get better as he gets stronger and his confidence up to speed
like many have pointed out the speed of the college game is so much faster in college than HS it takes time to adjust
all you have to do is look at Marble and see how much his game has changed from his FR season to his SO season
you could very well see the starting lineup look like this next year

pg Gesell 6'2 fr
sg Marble 6'6 jr
sf White 6'8 so
pf Basabe 6'7 jr
c Woodbury 7'1 fr

the 2nd string
pg Clemmons 6'1 fr
sg Oglesby 6'5 so
sf May 6'5 sr
pf McCabe 6'7 jr
c Olaseni 6'11 so

with Ingram 6'3 fr being the 3rd option at the 1 and 2 spot
and Meyer 6'10 fr the 3rd option at the 4 and 5 spot
that gives Fran a lot of flexibility and much needed quality depth
something this years team sorely lacks
the best thing about next year is they lose just one sr in May
the bad thing it will be a young team with a bright future

By the end of the year I bet May and Ingram will be flipped around, If not sooner. Wouldn't be suprised to see Marble start at the 3 either depending on AW's development.
