Lin-sanity continues

So did Steve Alford. The Nuggets got out of the first round once in Carmelo's seven years in Denver.

I don't think Anthony in his current role will work. He will have to adjust, but I was just commenting on the fact that he "never won ****."

If Carmelo is a top five player, which he isn't, then there's no reason that Nuggets team should have been a six seed. When LeBron left Cleveland their win total declined by almost 40, when Wade was hurt for almost an entire year, Miami won less than 20 games, when Melo was traded from Denver, the Nuggets got better. That shouldn't happen if he's really a top five player.

Which one of these guys is Melo better than: LeBron, Wade, Howard, Durant and Rose?

Oh, did the Nuggets not trade for any players? Oh wait, they did. The Cavs didn't plus I never said LeBron isn't better than Carmelo, LeBron is light years better than every player in the league. And I could see an argument that he's better than Rose.

I'm a huge Derrick Rose fan, but he shouldn't have been the MVP and he is a tad overrated. Regardless, even if Anthony isn't a top 5 player he is a top 10 player for sure and you don't take him instead of Jeremy Lin. You just don't, it makes no sense to do so.

Comparing DRose to Lebron James is not fair. DRose is the best point guard in the league and Lebron James is the best player in the NBA, at least talent wise. Carmelo does not get a mention as a top 5 player in the NBA. He is shooting horribly this year and he evidently is not good enough to carry a team. With Lin and without Carmelo the Knicks went 6-1, without Lin playing the Knicks were 7-14 and 8-2 since they started playing him. It is obvious who is more valuable to the Knicks right now.

who's never won ****. melo is a cancer in the clubhouse and a black hole on offense. they need to move him.
Oh, Lin's won a bunch. I forgot that. The Nuggets made it to the the conference finals as a 6th seed with Carmelo. The Knicks aren't making it to any conference finals period, especially if they trade him. Trading a top 5 NBA player to build around an undrafted player who has gotten hot for a few games would totally be Knicks like though and hilarious.

I never said Lins won anything, and I didn't say you build around him. I said melo is a cancer and a black hole.

Melo is nowhere near top five. He might be sniffing top 15.

Yeah, lets see those wonderful players the Nuggets got in the Melo deal...

Wilson Chandler, out of the league
Raymond Feldton, now playing for Portland
Danilo Gallinari, playing well for the Nuggets
Timofey Mozgov, Nuggets version of Vakidas from Semi-pro

They got some real good players there...

The reality is they traded Melo to get rid of him, and were lucky to get a few draft picks. Keep in mind they got Felton in the deal because they also traded away Chauncey Billups and needed a PG. When you get down to it the Nuggets traded Melo for Gallinari and they got better. Melo's real top five material there.

Chandler is a solid player. He's out of the league because he signed in China and can't sign elsewhere until their season in complete. Felton was good for Denver last year too. The poster I responded to compared the Nuggets situation to Cleveland and it isn't remotely comparable.

Well, if you are not going to count Denver getting Kosta Koufos as well, then ... He is averaging 5 points and 5 rebounds a game :)

It is comparable, you've neglected to mention that the Nuggets lost Chauncy Billups and Renaldo Balkman in that trade as well. If you trade a top five guy plus another starter, their prodcution shouldn't be more than increased by those four guys. Carmelo is an above average scorer, below average defender and nowhere near a top five player.

They aren't comparable because LeBron and Melo aren't comparable.

Again the Knicks gave up Melo and Billups (along with 3 other scrubs) and got Felton and Gallinari, a few other scrubs, some cash, and two draft picks. They got better not because they got better or more talented players. They got better because Melo is a clubhouse cancer, is a black hole with the ball, doesn't play defense, and doesn't move without the ball.

one talented player can win a title in the watered down game of college basketball.

Melo was a beast that year, but he had a solid squad around him. Hakim Warrick is still in the league, Gerry Mac was a great college player and huge in the title game, plus Keith Duany and Billy Edelin were solid guys on that team.

He also had a coach who wouldn't let him hijack the offense. That was pretty big also.

I never compared the two. I said that LeBron is light years better than nearly everyone.

Citation needed on the bold one please.

And how the hell is Wilson Chandler a scrub exactly?

The Nuggets were a 50 win team nearly every year he was in Denver so I don't really buy that they are better anyways.

The thing is, those players who were traded from the Knicks to the Nuggets had helped the Knicks to a strong record until the Carmelo trade. They then went to the Nuggets and helped the Nuggets to a strong record. Now the Knicks traded some good role players for Anthony and Billups.

They pretty much became two star players, one really good role player and nothing. Now, it could be argued that they struggled because of Anthony being a cancer or it could be argued that 2 stars and a good role player don't make a good team at all.

This year they were worse because it's two stars and nobody (I'm exaggerating with the word nobody though aside from Tyson Chandler they have and still don't have any interior defense at all) until recently.

Not only were they better, and they were much better, but they were also extremely more efficient on both ends of the court after Carmelo left.

You basically keep claiming that Denver got better because they lost Carmelo's weaknesses, completely neglecting his strengths, the talent they got in return and the fact that last year's Denver team was not as good as Denver's team was in multiple years before that (mostly due to Carmelo Anthony).

They went from multiple 50 win seasons to an average team. Yeah, they got better last year when he left but they aren't better than when they had him for the entirety of his career.

Part of the reason the Nuggets struggled was because everyone knew he'd be playing for the Knicks later that year.

I'm saying they got better because thier record improved after the trade. Again they got 5 players, but also gave away 5 players. Not one of the players they got was nearly as talented as Melo.

You don't build around guys like Melo, you either hope to draft them and win a title with them while they are young and hungry, or catch them on the downside of their careers on the cheap after they have a chance to mature. The team that signs them inbetween always gets screwed.

Carmelo has more assists per game this year than he has in his career so I'm not sure I even buy the cancer bit at this point (at least as it relates to the Knicks. I'd need more evidence to support it at the very least.) I'm more likely to buy that he has struggled with his shot a bit though there have been numerous players who have struggled this year and that can easily be attributed to the lockout.

In a round about way they also got Miller back and drafted Hamilton, right?

Good job by the Nugs getting rid of him, IMO.
