Let's try this again- Will Iowa make the NCAA Tournament?

None of those teams mentioned had a .500 record against the top 50 with playing 8 games against the top 50. When we play Wisconsin again that will make 9 games against the top 50. That is 1/3 of our games. We should and will get credit for that. Plus I wonder if any of those teams had a 1st team all B1G, 2 All Freshman and a 6th man of the year. I doubt it.

Excellent points!

To think probably the only thing holding Iowa back from being a lock now is those stupid wins over those 3 RPI +300 teams. I sure hope Fran, or whoever sets the schedule, learns from those mistakes. I get they knew they had a young team and all but we would have been better off playing D2 opponents (those games don't count). If we need a game for experience then schedule a game with Upper Iowa, I'm sure Brooks McKowen would love to bring his team into Carver.

Actually it looks like we have 12 games against the Top 50.. Currently sitting at 5-7. So Wisconsin would make it lucky 13:

I think the Iowa vs. Indiana loser is out. I think the winner has a shot...and is in with a win over Wisconsin. I also think last year's NCAA run by Syracuse helps make a case for teams like Iowa that are obviously better (today) than some system generated number ranking for the season.

Indiana's got problems IMO. They have two GREAT wins over KU and UNC, but not much else. Plus (I don't follow the Hoosiers that closely) but didn't they have a lot of injuries since those two W's? They aren't the same team and that may hurt them as well..

I think Iowa is in if they make the BTT semis.. Indiana goes to "maybe" - they may need to make the title game.

I could be wrong, though.

Since it is written, it must be so. I would expect the same amount of corruption within the NCAA bracket committee as there is with all other entities of the NCAA. As there is with all other everything as it seems. We will just have to wait and see, but I stick by my predictions. MSU will be seeded higher than projected. Iowa will be in as long as they beat Indiana.

Well, sure, the rule doesn't mean other committee members won't be passing notes under the table. :)

My bad

My bad, I have read so many different metrics over the last week that my head is still spinning lol. I just know that homer or not deep deep down I believe Iowa will beat Indy and go dancing.

:)

I think at least that a win on Thursday gives me a hope and reason to watch the selection show.. My gut says Iowa is NIT if they don't win two but I sure hope you're right. I think it's possible.

Just win the first tournament game in many years. Start there. Indiana is a tough draw and matchup. Hawks need to play well.

It's weird that our first 2 games may very well be tougher than our 3rd in the b1g tourney, if we make it there.

By the way, I think if we win 2, we're a lock for the dance. I don't have significant data on that, only that if logic and reason has any significant role in selection, I simply don't know how you keep a team out that has 20 wins and finishes the season winning 6 of their last 7 and 5 of those over tourney teams.

Just win Thursday. Start there !

Exactly. Can't believe it's been 4 years since Iowa played on Friday in this tournament & 11 since they played on Saturday

Yep, agreed.

The BTT has been miserable the last 3 years.. Please tell me this is the year Iowa makes a good showing. Couldn't think of a better time to do it than 2017!

I voted YES.
And I stay with that vote. This isnt last years team. And the set up on the lower half looks like a bracket that could get us to the final. This team wont fold. It will be competitive.

It sucks that the last 3 years we've played terrible teams, but now that we have a must win, we play a good one. If we lose, I hope fans are smart enough to realize the difference between what happened this year and what happened the last 3.

The only legit answer is maybe. The overwhelming choice is no but tell me who the Hawks play in their first two games that they haven't already beaten... and who's hotter than the Hawks right now?

Solid reasoning, Adam.....

This. I've said the same thing when Fran has scheduled 200+ RPI teams in previously -- 300+ is inexcusable I don't care how young Iowa is.

Sure, we would have to tolerate Drake every other season but don't shoot yourself in the foot intentionally.

C'mon are you serious? You guys think we should play 30 Power 5 teams a year? The reason that we are on the bubble at all is because we lost 13 games. Only lose 6 or less and it won't matter who the F you played. It is impossible to predict years in advance who is going to be any good. It's either schedule nothing but power 5 teams or do exactly what every other power 5 program does and schedule mid majors and cupcakes with a tourney or 2 to give you a few games against legit competition. It all boils down to just simply winning the games you play.

Agree with the posters who say "win 2 and we're in" "win one or none and we're not."

No, I'm not suggesting play all top conferences but those 3 games cost us. If you eliminate those games Iowa's RPI would be 61, SOS at 19, with a 15-13 record. There are plenty of other weaker mid majors they can schedule, they just need to avoid scheduling games against garbage conferences like the MEAC.
