Iowa has had some issues in the past with assistants learning on the jon.
I don't know, I actually do some of my best learning on the jon. But that's just me.
(And I realize you corrected this seconds after posting ...)

Some people could call the Iowa program the jon... it was that bad...![]()
I'm starting to think hiring Fran will ultimately be judged as a brilliant move by Barta whenever his tenure as Iowa AD ends.
The depths to which Iowa basketball had fallen by late February, not only in losses and attendance, but the lack of emotional connection to the program for all of us who grew up watching in the '80s, was shocking.
If Fran gets Rodell (or another talented young assistant with Chicago connections), the caliber of the staff will have improved three fold compared to the previous regime.
On top of that, Barta found a guy who appears to consider this a destination job, says all the things we've wanted to hear but in a genuine way, and seems committed to playing a fun style.
Oh yeah, and Barta found him at a pretty good price.
Other than Pearl, what more could we have hoped for?
Each assistant comes with a player. Francis = Basabe, Speraw = JC forward, Coach # 3 = PG. At least that is my prediction.
Stormin, did Phil screw up the date on this release or did it just get out early?
What about Rodell to cover Illinois?
That would complete one hell of a staff.
I wonder when the new coaches are introduced at the first game if Speraw won't get as big of an ovation as Caff.
I can't believe how geeked I am for basketball season, especially when I take into account that football season's still 4 months away AND Iowa's still not going to be "that" good in hoops...but on April 23, 2010, I don't even care about that part...
