Kicking Game Worries No One Talking About It????

The Hawks will have an untested place kicker this year and no one seems to give it any thought this summer. It's the LBs and more recently the DBs stealing all the hand ringing. The only kicker on the roster that kicked more then one collegiate field goal in his career was advised he was no longer part of the team just a couple weeks ago so the Hawks will go into the season with a RS Junior who has made one collegiate FG and two true freshman. This is a little unnerving too say the least knowing how KF likes to play control ball and like we saw last year even a good senior kicker can spit the bit when need. There are many out there saying this could be the year but we must look at reality, this team will need a few big kicks that could ultimately be the difference between 10-2 or 8-4. I think we need to simmer down on some of this chatter until we see a big kick made or some consistency in the kicking game.

Who was the kicker who was let go or left the team?

And yes some missed fgs can always come back to mean defeat.

I think it is a legit point and one that I hadn't realized/considered. But, as we know, KF can fix any pesky fg kicking woes by punting from the opponents 32 yard line (sarcasm...sort of :D)

We can only be hopeful that KF has a legit prospect in the fold. I can't remember the kid from Texas' name (FR), but he was like top 10 kickers in HS last season. Hopefully, this kid pans out. We damn sure could use another Nate Kaeding.

I remember back to the days of PK woes of about 1988-1994. Anytime Jeff Skillett made one it was enough to give Zabel a heart attack. Then there was the antics of Andy Kreider and Todd Romano. Dark days of kicking for Iowa. I was at the Western Michigan game in 2000 and saw a guy miss a game tying FG. I thought how this kicker was a bum. He never did amount to much.

Oh no - the sky is falling!! Flip the coin over cuz there's a question. What evidence do you have that shows that there won't be any consistency or a big kick won't be made?

The kicking game is very easily over looked when it's been solid for awhile... That said whoever gets the gig might very well be good. Nobody will have a clue till the games start. And kicking is unique in that whatever they do in practice is irrelevant almost. He could be splitting the uprights from 50 in practice all day long but if he misses a 37 yarder in the 4th q he'll be a goat.

It's a concern to me that I've mentioned previously. Given the type of ball control football Iowa tries to execute the kicking game might be more important to us than others. If that's possible.

Mike Meyer was above avg and hit some really clutch kicks but there were some times he missed due to a snap or a hold or just his mechanics. Two at Minnesota in 2010 come to mind.

Remember we had coker running for good yardage and we moved up and down the field but when you chew up clock and miss FGs it gives the other team hope.

Meyer was 1/1 in 2010 up in TCF.

2011 was the year Coker went wild up there and Meyer a couple.

Who really needs a good kicking game when you have the most prolific offense in the country. Hawks will outscore everyone and it will only take about 1:30 per drive. Kicking schmiking.

Haffar was let go. He was the only kicker that had experience kicking in games all be it jc. He also holds the longest kickoff record for Nate Kaeding's kick camp.

Koehn HAS kicked a PAT. Why is Haffar (I thought is was spelled "Hafer") gone? If he was cut, wouldn't it stand to reason it's because he wasn't as good as the other kicker(s)?
