KF said Fant is a specialist!

If both Hock and Fant are on the field, the defenses will need to respond with fewer than 9 in a box formations. I noticed that NW LBs and sometimes even a safety were only a step or two behind the DL. I thought that was a major contributor to our anemic running game.

Seriously, all opposing coaches have to do is watch the films and figure out what formations to use to keep Kirk from inserting his "specialist" in the game, then use those formations every time. Kind of like a baseball manager. If he doesn't want to see that left handed pinch hitter in the late innings he keeps left handed relievers in the game.

Was TJ's injury brought up, or was it just game soreness and hes back to practicing? Not sure if I'm ready for the Nate Weiting/Drew Cook experience when trying to reverse a skid.

There may never be anyone drafted in the 1st round of the NFL draft with as few of game reps, even as a 3 year starter with minimal injury issues, as Noah Fant.

I wish him the best in the NFL. He deserves better than how we treated him this year.

Ferentz is a blockhead. Get the kid out in space. Jesus, a junior high coach could figure this one out. Throw jump balls to him. Penn State won a big ten title under Franklin basically doing the same thing.

It is time for a coaching change at Iowa. I'm done supporting this dopey coach and now his idiot son. 20 years is enough.

All he does is score touchdowns. He's a touchdown specialist.

Jimmy Graham can't block either. In his prime though, he was right up there with Gronk as far as tight ends go and the Saints made sure he was on the field most of the time.

What he was trying to say is that he isn't a great all around TE and better simply as a receiver but my point and most people's point to him and BF is so what? IF that is the case, put him on the field split out as a receiver. If Iowa is running 70 plays a game he needs to be out there in 60 of them. Some time is is really simple. Get your best players on the field whatever way you can. If that means you have to play differently than you would in a previous year, so be it. Play out of shotgun with 3 WRs and a TE. whatever it takes. The more he is out there the harder Iowa's offense is to defend.

What? EVERY team plays them like that!

That's the biggest problem this offense has had for pretty much all of KF's time. Opposing defenses have no reason to back off.

Jet sweeps and stuff like that fail because the backside lb's and db's are still around the line and can easily react.

I have to wonder if KF is "coached" by hawkeye PR as to how to respond with questions he knows are coming or if he responds with ideocracy himself.

If Fant is a specialist this year, why wasn't he a specialist last year? Fant specializes in catching passes for long gains and scoring TDs. To bad Purdue;s coach Jeff Brohm didn't realize that Rondale Moore is also a specialist that catches long passes and scores TDs. If he had, then Moore would have been on the sidelines against the Hawks. This would have enabled the Hawks to double cover Purdue's WRs and they would not have burned Iowa with long passing plays.

Iowans can smell manure. Calling Fant a specialist is manure.

If they ever lined up fant and Hockenson on the outside at the exact same time opposite sides of the field it would draw the safeties into a cover 2 which would open up running lanes . These coaches are seriously clueless at creating mismatches. Run the damn ball out of the spread and throw the damn ball out of the spread with your best players on the field

Hmmm. That would wreak havoc with our bread and butter.

Yes, the vaunted stretch to the short side of the field.

But seriously, so sad and infuriating to see KF frame his offensive strategy based on what the defense gives us and this somehow explains the rationale of having Fant standing next to him?? Well, not exactly NEXT to him.

Why not be the AGGRESSOR on offense and make the defense guessing, putting them back on their heels?

Play both, and always put one of them in motion. Force the defense to move around at least and guess. Something. Instead Fant watches #14 and #19 from the sidelines.

This has to be personal . He must have mouthed off or something . His playing time lately makes for zero logic

It's been an issue all year but NW is probably the worst case. It doesn't show up as much against weak teams because the match-ups aren't as bad without Fant.

Fant is a TE who can't block. Kirk is a 1970s coach and in the 1970s, TEs blocked. Not sure why this has anyone fired up. Seems like normal KF talk to me.

Shit KF doesn't even play WR who can't block. For him to play a TE, who is actually lined up next to the OL, who can't block is borderline crazy for Ferentz.
Well maybe if they were better at blocking we would be able to run the dam ball!!

Don't even get me started.
A bunch of people on here were crying about how we didn't play wr's who couldn't block and our pass game sucked.
I sat here and said all of them, every player needs to block. I even posted a NFL wr who said absolutely it's necessary because if they can run the ball it makes his job as a wr easier.

Well la te friggin da, we can't run the ball against a good hs team.
So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

NFL tight ends have to block. End of story.

Further friggin more, everyone jumped all over Nate and he had no running game to count on and he is the one friggin player who rarely ever has to block.
