Kenyon Murray on Sports Buddies @ 8:00 Sat.

KCJJ just posted this on their Facebook page:

Hawkeye Nation corrects it story on our reporting: "We did not accurately relay the exact details of what KCJJ reported in a follow up facebook post, that said the University of Iowa would cite health reasons for Lickliter’s resignation. KCJJ did not say Lickliter would be retiring due to health reasons. KCJJ still stands by its report."

I am the GM at KCJJ. Let me say that I appreciate Jon's website very much and have been a member for a lot of years. I think Jon does good work and I would not be a member of his site if I didn't think that. Re: Coach Lickliter- We have a wide variety of extremely well connected sources that are saying exactly the same thing. Coach Lickliter is done. We stand by our sources. I don't always agree with Pat Harty but I have a great deal of respect for him as a writer and as one of the sports buddies.

Didn't Harty's sports editor at the newspaper also feel obligated to come on a website to defend him last year?

I think the message is that Harty is the only columnist/talk show head that has to propped up by his bosses and then it is done on an internet message board. Why not your own website?

Sorry boss, I and many others respectfully disagree.

I think Pat does a good job. I wish he were not on the beat and was writing columns all of the time, and I mean that as a compliment. When you are on the beat, traditionally you are not to write opinions. I think the opinion side is when Pat is at his best.

I was glad when KCJJ posted what they posted. It opened the floodgates for more discussion. Have they taken chances in the past that maybe didn't turn out? Yes. Have I? Yes. Have others? Yes. It happens to a lot of people in this business...find me one person that it hasn't happened to, and I can probably show you someone that folks probably don't pay much attention to.

I know, I know..."Jon, what about your saying Jake Kelly was considering Iowa? You were wrong about that." I'd post the same things today that I did back in January, because I know who told me. I know for a fact the Indiana State coaches were concerned that Kelly was leaving. Highly respected writer Rick Brown from the DMR posted similar comments on his blog, naming anonymous sources at both Iowa and Indiana State that confirmed Jake was thinking of leaving. I know Jake said that was untrue, but...that was untrue, and what do you expect him to say.

"OK Jon, you said Iowa was 90% to the Fiesta Bowl." I see that one a lot, too. That was based on what very connected people were telling me as of Friday, December 4th, two days ahead of the selections. And another very respected writer, Marc Morehouse of the Cedar Rapids Gazette, also cited 90% Iowa to Fiesta. Then comes the Big 12 title game where Texas did not win convincingly, and barely won, period. On that night, the 5th, that is when the momentum began to build for TCU-Boise State. That happens. I'll put my Hawkeye bowl prediction record up against anyone that covers Iowa athletics during the last decade.

You're not going to be 100% right in this line of business when you give opinions for a living. Those that never make mistakes are typically forgettable. Just the way it is. I'll keep doing things how I have been doing them the past 11 years. Sites that people have no faith in don't pull down close to a half million hits in 48 hours from over 20,000 different users, any day of the year. I think we're doing just fine and we appreciate everyone that visits the site.

That does sounds like Suterman...

I was pulling for Lickliter (ok not so much lately) as I think with some talent his system would really work well for a school like Iowa. Look at Butler, you have the same system and it is a good, fun to watch brand of basketball. But if you are going to make a coaching change - now is the time to do it!
The fans have given up. The players? Who knows for certain. But we have a decent core of players and a good recruiting class coming in. That is a good way for a new coach to start. Todd didn't have that, nor Steve A. We haven't had that since Mr. Davis. Remember those days? NCAA most every year? Not ONE loss in the first round of the tournament?
If we have a new coach next year, the crowd will be back in force. There is no way that will happen with Coach Lickliter. The fans have had enough. Even with a highly rated recruiting class, it just will not happen. Combine the core of players, with a new coach, new practice facilities, new recruiting class and you have a recipe for a very good start to something.

IF it is something NEW.

Jon that's a great post. Is KCJJ right on this? probably 98%-99% yes.!! 100% no. But in this business you can't wait until the horse is out of the barn. If you have 20+ pieces of evidence from credible sources that are close to the program that agree that Coach Lickliter is gone, then you make an assumption. But an assumption based on credible evidence is not the same as Gary Barta saying Coach Lickliter is gone. But Gary Barta is not talking. I am comfortable that our sources are correct. If we weren't comfortable with our sources, we wouldn't have taken the stance we did. The story is Coach Lickliter is done.. not that KCJJ said it first.

This was completely legit. Jake was almost a Hawkeye again. Absolutely legit.

I gave a call to KCJJ after the show today, not to discuss the sleights directed at me, but rather, the claim that I misrepresented what they had reported. I certainly don't want to that, as I hate it when others do that with what I say or write.

After discussing the timeline and what they posted, I see at least the origin of their concern.

I wrote that KCJJ was reporting that Lickliter would resign after the season due to health reasons. They initially reported that Lickliter would be gone after the year, resigning. They later came back and said that the University would cite health reasons. While it may seem like semantics to some, I understand how those are two different things. A correction had been made to the story.

Jon, that is BS hairsplitting on their part. What they reported was inaccurate - period.

I agree. They basically said Lickliter was stepping down due to heath reasons. That is false.
