Just a reminder..

Not making the NIT is unacceptable in my opinion

So you're saying if Fran coaches 10 more years here and wins a couple National Championships and a few more final 4s, then he misses the NIT one year but signed the number 1 ranked class, he has to go because one bad year is unacceptable? Blanket statements man.

What ifs lol

Context man. I'm referencing his blanket statement that a coach can't miss the NIT in year 7. Like every coach in the country never has a down year once they've been at the same place for 6 years. Longevity doesn't guarantee success every single year, no matter where you are.

If the guy wants to say Fran hasn't built up enough good will to be able to afford one down year, that's one thing. It's a stupid opinion but at least it's not another blanket statement.
Sure, but on the other end, you have guys saying that Fran shouldn't be fired if he misses 3 straight NCAA tourneys.

He hasn't built up enough credit to not even make the NIT without hearing about it on my opinion. He's never even made it to the second weekend of the tournament in his coaching career and his team's have either been not good or collapsed at the end every year here but once

If we just suck bad for no reason and miss the tourney 3 years in a row, I'll be ready to move on. But if there is injuries, or Cook is so good he turns pro, then we miss it for 3 years but we look like we're going to be really good the next year, I would want to give him one more year. If it's 4 straight, it's probably not going to work.

Yeah, if it's only 3 it's all good, but 4 is the magic number lmao.

If you are established at your program, missing 2 straight NCAA tournaments, your seat should be hot, if you miss the 3rd you aren't doing your job and should be fired. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule (rash of injuries, or some other mitigating circumstance).

What about being so bad you don't even make the NIT?

Meh, missing the NCAA is missing the NCAA, I'm not gonna sweat over a couple non conference games in Nov./early Dec.

If Iowa played a Rutgers schedule, we would be a lock for the NIT. So I'm not gonna lose my mind that we played a schedule that had 4 top 50 teams, instead of playing nobody that got you a 11-2 record like Rutgers

It's my magic number, just like twins magic number is 1. I agree with Dean that 2 has to make you question why and his seat is warm, if it's 3, there is something really wrong unless something crazy happened, and if it's 4, he almost always has to go.

Not sure you can say I have a magic number anyway since my post was pretty much pointing out that there is no magic number.

There's a difference between losing your mind and questioning how you got so bad you couldn't even make the NIT

It is called scheduling. If Iowa is playing for the NIT, then don't schedule 3 top 50 teams. Yet the NIT isn't the goal, so you take your chances and play them, because those games are very important if you want to make the NCAA.

So I have no problems scheduling to get to the NCAA and then missing the NIT as a result. Who cares? Is this gonna be your new troll, that NIT is great and no NIT is fire time?

Our non conference SOS was 193rd in the country, let's not pretend like we had some murderer's row we had to face and that's why we are were we are. I don't think you should be fired if you don't make the NIT but I think you should have to answer some questions on how it got to that point

Maybe graduating a 1st-Team All American, two four year starters at the center and point guard position, along with another starter all in the same year had something to do with it?
