Jon, why are you concerned Ames won't be "safe"?

You serious, Clark? He's obviously referring to the copious amounts of alcohol that will most likely be consumed in the six "extra" hours of time between 11a and 5 p. Add that it's a rivalry game where tensions would be high and there's your potential Molotov cocktail.

Who needs to add in a rivalry game? Just open the tailgating lots all day call it some goofy celebration like VEISHA and watch Ames tear itself apart without any help from Hawk fans.

I was there. Sat by three of the biggest dicks from isu. Wanted to punch them but didn't

Entertaining as it is to toy with these guys...and give then their voice...the fundamental equation never changes. And most of them will never grasp the defining realities that are, and have always been...vis a vis, Iowa v isu.

Or...to paraphrase a famous writer..." a broken machine...doesn't know, it's a broken machine".

anyone in iowa city for the 2002 game knows what jon is talking about.

I was there and had no issues whatsoever. If you want trouble you can find it anywhere. This is such a stupid argument. So are we to believe a 5pm kick in Ames is somehow going to be more dangerous than night games in baton rogue, Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Columbus, etc? I don't see those schools avoiding night games regardless of the opponent. I've been to two Iowa Iowa st games in Ames and have had no issues at all. That's not to say nobody will have problems but if you don't want trouble 99% of the time you can walk away and avoid it.

I have no problem with giving people what they ask for. That clown was asking for a response from the crowd, and he got one.

The funny part is when he figured out that he made a dumb move but had to stay up there just a bit longer because of his pride.

I agree with you for the most part, and walking away is always the best choice. However, I was in Ames for the Iowa vs ISU game two years ago (triple overtime loss) and I had about a 10 minute walk back to my car. I was wearing an Iowa jersey and I had drunk Cyclone fans literally get up in my face and start yelling obscenities at me multiple times on my short walk back to my car. I work in healthcare so I used my better judgement, put my hands in my pocket, and kept walking, but I will tell you it took everything in me not to knock their freakin teeth out. No desire to lose my job over something so petty, but it was incredibly obnoxious.

After the game in Iowa City last year, it was like walking out of a funeral. Fans of neither team were making much noise as we walked across the river to our parking place. I would have expected much more enthusiasm or frustration, but everyone seemed to be deflated after that game. Too many key mistakes for either team to be boisterous.

Any late starting game allows the chance for some fans to consume way more alcohol than they should. I have been to many, many night games in Iowa City and witnessed the same thing from our fans ... college kids passed out ... fans flipping sh&t to visitors, etc. It is just the world we live in. Some fans can drink and have fun. Some fans take it to an extreme level and can't handle their alcohol. And they use the opportunity to feel extra confident because they are on their home turf. Sure, there will be episodes of Cyclone fans spouting off to Iowa fans ... the same thing we would see if the game was in Iowa City.

Yeup. This is why Im not a big fan of going to away games anymore. Ive had friend that had run ins with MI fans(I never have) Ive had run ins with multiple MSU fans. My sister had a lady scream in her face for 2 mins after 7 got 6, because she said she should go back to Iowa and that Iowa didnt deserve to win that game.

Ive told a Iowa fan in Kinnick to shut his mouth because he was screaming at every Purdue fan that walked by him.

Because I have been treated poorly I try to be overly nice to other fans in hopes that they have a good gameday. If you see a fellow Iowa fan being a clownbag you got to tell them to knock it off.

This. Throw in the fact that now the two teams are roughly on the same level (with ISU realistically holding the upper hand), and it takes it up another notch. The fans have considerable reason to expect ISU to win the game.

Really? I'm always surprised when the clowns come out on top.

That's because that game was about as entertaining as a Browns/Bills game in December.
