Jon, why are you concerned Ames won't be "safe"?

I've been to a few Charger - Raider games in both Oakland and San Diego. I'm not to worried about going to Ames. At the Chargers - Raider games, the fans stay sober to make sure they are in good fighting condition, so unless Clone fan starts stabbing Hawkeye fan...I think all is well in the CyHawk rivalry and no need to have Sally Mason call in the National Guard...or call for prohibition for a day on game day.

Considering on the CyFan thread there were a couple of people already spouting off how they are going to get drunk as hell and pick fights with any "man woman and child" wearing black and gold...you can get the picture.

Oh I hope they do. I so hope they do!

I will feel about as threatened in Ames as I would at a Justin Bieber concert. Actually, on second thought, teenage girls can probably bite, scratch, and pull hair really hard. That's way scarier.

The honest answer is that the tailgating is way more centralized in Ames than other places. It really depends on when they open the lots.

Donor lots open at 7 am, public lots open 6 hours prior but there is no way they will be able to stick to that. The crush of people will force them to open lots early or have traffic backed up to I35.

Are you in fear that your trailer could be tipped over or are you leaving it "home"?

Me and Ma are fixin to leave the trailer at home. God forbid our trailer gets raided and our Sunday best paper plates and red dixie cups are pilfered!!!

Then your got to figure out whether more damage will be done at the game or by the folks back at the park.

You serious, Clark? He's obviously referring to the copious amounts of alcohol that will most likely be consumed in the six "extra" hours of time between 11a and 5 p. Add that it's a rivalry game where tensions would be high and there's your potential Molotov cocktail.

This. Throw in the fact that now the two teams are roughly on the same level (with ISU realistically holding the upper hand), and it takes it up another notch. The fans have considerable reason to expect ISU to win the game.

People worried about cyclone fans is hilarious. Iowa night games at PSU and Wisconsin were the real deal, Ames is a ******* joke.

True. But it's a bit like being in the big city at night vs being in the outback. At least Happy Valley and Madison are relatively civilized. There's just something inherently bush-league...about Ames. I'd hate to wake up surrounded by sheep after being hit over the head and injected with animal tranquilizers.

Madison - Morgantown
Champaign - Manhattan
Ann Arbor - Norman
Columbus - Stillwater
Chicago - Austin (OK...Austin is a great city. Then again...that's why Texas makes the rest of the "12" their beatch)
Iowa City - Ames
State College - Lawrence
Minneapolis - Lubbock
East Lansing - Waco
Bloomington- Fort Worth

(I left out Lincoln intentionally...they're still more "12", but with budding aspirations)

Shift the match ups around all you want. No comparison.

The evening start time for this game means a whole lotta extra consumption. Whether its IC or Ames, being the visiting fan base with a late start is risky IMO
