If I have come off as if I am excusing 66 yards, that is not my intent. I have just looked at this season as sort of a preseason developmental year for next year, since last season ended. By and large, it has gone according to expectations for me, with last week being a nice bonus that I never thought possible. Doesn't mean I will always get them right...because I won't. I think I had 10-2 last year....12-0 in 2010...etc.
Why do you think it is that Wisconsin, a team that recruits at the same level that we do, has had numerous coaching changes, been able to sustain high levels of success (this is their fourth consecutive year of 10 wins) while Iowa flounders and claiming "development"?

They have Alvarez. He's a proven winner at everything he does.
We, on the other hand, have an AD that makes oatmeal look exciting.

19th year of KF and we're still developmental. Always building for next year. Developmental is an excuse for sucking at the most important thing. Recruiting.

Was driving and didn't get to watch all the same...but did stop at Apple-bee's with family near Wisconsin Dells, wearing a bold Iowa hoodie...to eat...watching Iowa...place filled with Badgers...hideous, embarrassing, futile, Kirk ball...101

Zero effort, zero preparation....grade school level...

No one said anything to me...think they knew how pathetic is was for an Iowa fan.

Laughable...

The execution argument can really be used in any loss ever. I get it that we didn't execute but with only 40 yards and 0/12 on 3rd down you have to question the play calling a little. Nevertheless, the hawks have exceeded expectations this year and gave us the best win of my lifetime last week. It was a very frustrating game but I'm flushing it and moving on. As long as we beat Nebraska the season is a success overall in my mind.
Flushing it means it was a big ole pile of stinky crap, correct?

When was the last time Iowa's optimistic "next" season actually panned out?
All 3 senior linebackers gone along with Bazata & probably JJ. Even if the offense improves significantly, I wouldn't expect more wins next season.
Speaking of offense, we better hope Daniels sticks around....

Welsh is gone AW is gone also.......the run game better be incredible next year.

In al regards listening to the podcast, my take is the Ohio St game was a thing we will treasure for quite some time. And we should considering we destroyed the Big Ten's top dog. Jon reminds us at the end of the day, most thought this team would be a 6 or 7 win team. That could still happen, but they do have a good shot to get to 8 wins before a bowl game. So, we need to take it in stride.

I'm probably more disappointed than mad right now. Beating Ohio St helps (maybe kind of sounds ISU clownish there, but OSU has been a major thorn in our side forever), but I also knew this was a game that could go either way.

I do think Wisconsin played above themselves like we probably did against the Buckeyes. I don't think we are as bad as we showed today, but not as a good as we were last Saturday. We are probably somewhere in the middle and above average.

I also think the game plan was not nearly as good as last week. The execution of our players was not good enough. It was a program loss playing a highly motivated Wisconsin. Nothing looked good outsjde of the Pick 6s by Jackson. Again, it was another lost opportunity to take the next step (in the sense, in this situation, people continue to look at Iowa and say the OSU win was the yearly win Iowa gets that they are not suppose to, but will revolve back to the mean) and show they will be a top shelf program to contend with. Iowa will have to build up that respect again with what is left this year and doing exceptionally well next year with the softer schedule.

Would have been a better game at Kinnick, but we can't play them all there. But, this is Ferentz ball, up and down, up and down.

Don’t burden KF with stopping the embarrassment of our state. “His” stats of players in the NFL is all that matters. Stanley didn't need game snaps as a 2nd stringer, Beathard needed stats for the NFL. KF is an NFL personality, too cool to bother with motivating mere college players. Bright side of this loss: we’d have been supremely embarrassed again in a higher profile bowl game.

Strategic errors...

Stanley, having burned a year last year, needed to be the focus of the development given the year was Kirk vanilla, pedestrian. One can easily see that need even though he has done pretty well.

Given this year is now a four loss clunker or more, Iowa needs to focus on development and playing time for the replacement linebackers and running backs of the future.

Hiring a "train in place" OC, a high profile position that has been erratic and inefficient.

Delaying finding a new HC...who is set on winning the West, the Big Ten and a National Championship, rather than dumbing down the fan base with low expectations and excuses.

These moves are critical to becoming top shelf and involve leadership moves and leadership changes.
