Jok to Valley

Who says that Horner is still pulling for the Hawks? He has a lot of big time coaches calling him up right now.

A lot of coaches calling him up and pulling for the Hawks are not mutually exclusive. Watching Jok play this year, I felt that he was underutilized by the coach. I don't like the idea of high school kids transferring, though. A kid like Jok's going to get his college offers, regardless of where he plays high school basketball.

I don't think it will hurt but I don't necessarily believe it will influence our chances. If I remember correctly, Horner wanted to notch a spot on the Iowa coaching staff and was passed over. Who knows how much loyalty he still feels toward Iowa. And, the bottom line is that this kid is going to go where he wants to go ... If the big boys come calling then chances are good we see him leave the state no matter the high school he attends.

This has been in the works for awhile. Glad it is finally public knowledge so I can talk about it. Valley made a better recruiting pitch last week than Dowling did. He visited both for a day, but Horner had jerseys with Jok and Nixon's names on the back for them as "gifts."

Valley will be the best team in the CIML, and one of the best in the state for the next two years, and from the sounds of it, the recruiting pipeline is warming up, and Horner will be bringing more guys to Valley from the metro area over the next few years.

Well, until he gets a college offer, then he's gone and the kids will be left to play for whoever walks into the job.

Jon here, jumping into this thread...everything above this line is the original thread from the poster, unedited by me. Everything below, from here out, are my words as of 2:00pm.

Horner did NOT have jersey's made up for these kids. I have talked with parties directly involved that have said this allegation is untrue.

Based on the very, very, very well sourced person I communicated with, I also don't believe that Jeff Horner pursued these players. They had an interest in leaving where they were, and they visited Valley. Horner met with them then.

The players in question didn't decide to leave their school until about a month ago.

Unless I am being lied to, and this person has never lied to me before and they are in a position to know.

The rumor has been that Jok isn't/won't be the only one leaving Roosevelt, though. So who knows what's going on over there.

Did Horner ever go on record as saying he wanted a spot on the coaching staff, or was that all just rumor because WE wanted him on the coaching staff?

Horner is most definitely still a Hawkeye. He isn't going to try to convince him one way or another but to say he doesn't still bleed black and gold because he got passed over for a coaching job is kinda of disrespectful to Jeff.

Jeff was interested in the position that was filled by Ryan Bowen. When he didn't get it, I called him up and told him I felt the opportunity that presented itself at Valley, with their size and resources, would wind up being better for him in the long run if he wanted to position himself to get into coaching at the college level one day.

Something like this could really accelerate that. Put up two really good years at Valley, and he should easily be able to land a front line assistant position in a Mid Major conference.

Interesting. Don't know anything about Jok but I hope he is ready to play hard and check whatever ego he may have at the door.

Rumor is Roy Marble's younger son is also transferring to Valley. What a line-up next year - hope Jeff can keep everybody happy.

I'm sorry Jon, I just couldn't let this one slide.....

If Matt Bowen, former safety for the Hawkeyes, is now an assistant coach on the Iowa men's basketball team, we are in big trouble!!

:D

I work with Jeff (and his assistant coach J.R. Angle - remember him?) for WDM schools. I can assure you he has no ill will against Iowa and we talk a lot about Iowa hoops when I get the chance. He has said he really likes Fran but he is realizing how difficult it is to recruit. But did say he will do very well if he can get the recruits because the players really love playing for him and his staff. He talks to Fran occasionally. Iowa has started showing a little interest in Kale Abrahamson although Horner's not sure they will offer. Jeff is a great guy and coach and really excited for him and his future. Valley hasn't been relevant in BB for over 10 years and are now the favorite in the CIML going into next season.

Asst coaches are brought in and booted for their recruiting ability. I would say this does one of two things: It helps Horner land a job at Iowa in the near future or it helps him land a job at another D1 program.

Ok, where did you hear that? For one, Valley doesn't put names on jerseys, also just because you go to Dowling or support them doesn't mean you should be making up **** like this. You have no facts to support that and your just ************ everyone here.

Also, for the marble comment. Im about 99% sure he will be transferring to Valley.

Not a rumor. It is true. Heard that last week as well.

Whoa, slow down, killer. I have ZERO affiliation with either Dowling or Valley. Facts are facts though, dude. The jersey thing DID happen. And yeah, I know that Valley does not put names on their game jerseys, no high school in Iowa does. But that does not mean you can't have one made for them.

I have been on the inside of this story the entire time, going way back to last fall. Get over yourself.
