Jok An All-American

It's hard to gauge how good the Iowa player really is. A guy like Jok is so far ahead of the competition, that his team steamrolls through all of their opponents and easily wins the state championship, because the competition has a 6'4" 175lbs white kid playing center.

Also, Flint, Michigan is a scary place. No joking, it looks like Afghanistan with empty factories. Just google satalite map that town some day, just don't do it near tall buildings or bridges.

You must not pay attention to Iowa High School basketball then because Jok's WDM Valley team didnt even make the state tourney this year.

Actually, it's pretty easy to gauge. Over the course of the past 15 years, we've had about 20 3-5 star recruits in this state, and they seem to have been fairly accurately handicapped from the word go (this is not an exhaustive list, feel free to expound):

Hinrich, Collison, Worley, Sonderleiter, Brunner, Horner, Haluska, Bohannon, Henderson, Korver, Reed, Thompson, Gatens, Pomlee, McDermott, Cougill, May, Barnes, Paige, Oglesby, Woodbury.

Of these players, only Reed, Thompson, Cougill and Pomlee were significantly worse than I thought they would be. Hinrich, Collison, Brunner, Haluska, Korver and McDermott were better than I thought they would be. Everyone else was pegged just about right.

*I know that some might want to throw Worley under the bus. Glen finished as Iowa's #33 all-time leading scorer; ahead of guys like Steve Carfino, Reggie Evans and George Peeples.

I would hope he finished ahead of Evans. Worley played twice as many years for the Hawks as Evans did.

So half the guys on the list were either significantly better or worse than you thought they would be, that would lead me to believe that they were not fairly accurate handicapped from the word go like you think.

I'll refine my statement: the vast majority of Iowa high school players are either accurately rated or underrated. Now AngelEyes is even more wrong. Thanks, hawkfan33!

1/2 true, but you still cannot ignore the level of competition (or lack thereof) during the High School season. Generally speaking, you will see a kid more in a "team" environment moreso during the High School season than you will during AAU, which is nothing but glorified streetball / 1 on 1 showboating for the most part.

3/4 true. Barnes didn't really look like much in high school games, but he really showed what he could do in AAU games. That Ames team was rather boring to watch against Iowa HS competition. They didn't hardly have to try.

Monte Morris went to a very small high school by Michigan standards. Both he and Jok will be good and I'd love to have both.

No offense to Peter -- and, indeed, congrats on the honor -- but would you rather have an All-American forward from Valley HS or an All-American guard from Flint joining this Iowa squad?

If you were comparing Roy Sr, I would probably take the Flint player. If you are talking a Cyclown recruit, um no...give me the Valley player.

Nope. 100% of what I said was accurate.

This statement tells me all I need to know about you. Dubious is the man who posts opinions and declares them "100% accurate." Newsflash, hotrod: you have absolutely no idea how easy it is to handicap either player. Neither has played a college game yet.

...and as an aside, your reference to Jok's mythical "state championship" not only destroys your credibility, but your refutation of section136's criticism of that moronic comment makes you look like a doosh. Just FYI.

Jok needs to hit the weight room. But man can that dude shoot. I don't expect much from him next year but expect a big soph hear

Here is what I think about JOK argument. Is JOK a game changer no is he a big ten starter maybe, maybe not. However I think it is very important that Iowa locks down the borders keeping KU and UNC out when the game changers do come along. Iowa St is no real threat it's keeping the bigger programs out of the state.
