JBo is thinking about coming back next year

On the fence here. JBo= you were part of the solution, but also part of the problem, a sort of Doctor JBo and Mr. Hyde. Either commit to defense or move on.

Maybe JBo wants to show better in his final season, but just look at the guards in the Sweet 16. Hard to find one that isn't fast and athletic. Can you imagine Iowa's guards guarding the blur that is Baylor this year. I respect Jordan but only as an back up point or off guard. His defense in my opinion was one of the main reasons that Oregon opened up the lead that they won the game with. If he comes back he can't be the center point of the offense. Losing Nunge has me totally bummed. He made the graduation of Garza less painful. Fran better be working the portal with a sign saying "Starting Center position Available! Apply Now!

Jess Settles says, sure, why not. If I'm Ulis...I'm in the transfer portal...or Toussaint...one of them won't stay. You already have five additional guys coming back...CJ, Connor, Toussaint, Ulis, and Perkins. You can only play two.

What's the common theme for all the teams still left in the tournament? They are all great defensively. Hell, some of them made the sweet 16 because they were great defensively. Guess how teams that lead the country in the offensive efficiency category and were mediocre on defense did in the tournament. All roads ended after the first round.

We have to be much better defensively. Jordan can be shut down...we have seen it over and over...when you play the likes of Alabama, Houston, Baylor, Oregon, Gonzaga, Michigan, USC etc. We all know he's an average defensive player. How does that help us take the next step?

I love Jordan's play and he's a great Hawkeye...but Fran has to decide what his team needs to be to win and make a run to the Final Four...unless the goal is a 20 win season and early tournament exits. If that is the case, we have arrived!
You’re just making stuff up to fit your narrative. The FF4 is 1, 3, 7 and 13 on offense. They are 5, 28, 8 and 45 on defense.

We played a 9 man rotation this year. Why would anyone enter the portal?

We can be good with JBo. But I want to see some changes. He’s treated as an offensive specialist. He plays when we struggle to score, primarily plays the 2 barring injury or foul trouble, helps break the press and shoots FTs in the closing minutes. And he plays basketball and keeps his mouth shut...not a distraction. Just my opinion...

My gut feeling all season has been that this would be Nunge’s last year at Iowa after his dad passed.

If every player wants him back and are happy with it, that's good enough for me. If one guy will leave if he comes back, I don't want him back.

If you read the post...and understood what I was saying...I made nothing up to fit my narrative. I said teams that were "high in offensive efficiency AND mediocre on defense" are out of the tournament early...I wasn't focusing on just offensive numbers...which is what Fran appears to do.

Iowa ranked 241st in points given up per game. The other final four teams are in the top 100 for sure and Houston and Baylor in the top 50. Hell, Houston is #2 in points allowed per game. The other point is that UCLA, Gonzaga, and Baylor have all stepped it up defensively in the tournament and are much better than their regular season ranking. Baylor and UCLA (held Michigan to 49) are playing great defense. Broaden it to look at the Sweet 16 and you see most are really good defensive teams.

That was the point.

Like I said...if you want to win 19-20 games, finish in the middle of the B10...and make the tournament, but exit in round two...you can start Jordan and play him 28 minutes a game. If you want a deep run...you can't have a liability on defense. Everyone of the final eight teams would attack him relentlessly and they all could shut him down. He scored 0 points against Oregon...Zero. How did he do against Michigan?

Not sure about the Michigan game though.

I'd be fine with him coming back. He's a Hawkeye. I'm not going to be that guy that says move on old man. I wanna see him smash the 3 pt record even if that means it takes a few more games to do it. He's a great ambassador for the program. The positives out weigh the negatives to me. Our expectations won't be what they were this yr. So why not?

if you ever get a chance watch "the scheme"

i used to have this old man players shouldn't get paid mentality... but after reading and watching various things i realize they should be.

Poor defender. Poor ability to drive and finish. Poor 3 point shooter (this season). Loud mouth that couldn't back up his big mouth. Big assist guy that lived off Luka. Luka's gone. Hope he is too. Time to move on.
