James Morris not drafted

Morris is only the 6th Iowa player to get 400 tackles in 4 years. Read what the linebacker coach said in the register today. Yeah, he was terrible and an damn academic all-American to boot!
One, who reads the register? Can I borrow the time machine you've been using to go back to the 80's? I want to talk my past self out of the mullet.

Two, no one really thinks he sucks. He's game just doesn't translate to the NFL.

James Morris is a really good college player who's skillset - on paper - doesn't translate The League real well, it ain't no crime saying so. There are dozens of James Morris's across the country - as a Hawk fan, I hope James beats enough of them out to make a roster.

I thought Morris would get drafted in the late rounds and when it didn't happen I was really surprised. I think he's good enough to play somewhere

Was Sean Lee that much faster/stronger/better than Morris? Lee seems to be the most important player on the Cowboy defense these days....just never know.

Yes. He ran a 4.72 at the combine, Morris ran a 4.80. He showed more strength (24 BP reps to Morris' 18), leaping ability (37.5 inch vert to Morris' 34.5 inch jump), short area quickness (4.16 20yd shuttle and 6.89 3-cone drill times, to Morris' 4.36 and 6.94).

Lee was dominant when he was healthy. Morris was pretty good as a senior and showed flashes before that, but Lee played at a consistently higher level for nearly his entire career.

It's amazing what work ethic and a high motor can accomplish. James Morris is a young man with a very good head on his shoulders. I would not be in the least bit surprised if he makes a nice career for himself in the NFL. I think he's more than capable of being a back up LB who earns a living on special teams. If he does earn a starting spot someday it will be because he worked his butt off to get it. I think some of you guys are going to look back at your comments and wonder what in the hell you were thinking saying he's not NFL material. That's all I'm going to say.

^ Definitely. Lee was a great college player when healthy. Morris was a very good blue collar guy...which is kinda why I thought he was so popular among Hawk fans ("that's how I'd play if I were out there/that's how I'd want my son to play" kind of guy), so I'ma little surprised so many people are surprised to see The League not showing much interest.

I lift. Morris lifts. Guys who lift have barn door lats and those huge lats can skew arm measurements. It ain't that the arms are short, it's that when you add 6 inches of lat, your arms look shorter.

That is funny. You should go to the other site with Herky, Kilroy, etc., etc. That would be a absolute riot the two of you going back and forth. I am serious. Spring and summer is pretty dull on the boards. You two would be the comic relief.

Sort of like pitting the wits of the Woody Allen of Hawkeye Nation with the Lon Chaney Man of a Thousand Logins of Hawkeye Report. It would be the Repartee of the Century. Of course to even it out you would have to only type with half of the letters on your keyboard.

'Dre Tippett. Best defensive player on Iowa and best Jewish player Iowa has ever had (no disrespect to Weisman).

If you're going back to Tippett, why not go back farther? Wouldn't you put Karras or Hilgenberg (Wally) or Krause in the conversation as the best defensive player?

This.

Morris was pretty inconsistent until the second half of last season. Not sure which Morris you are going to get the one that was inconsistent for 3.5 years or the one that played lights out for half a season.

I have my doubts, Tarp was able to stick around for 2 years and i consider Tarp a better player.
