James Morris not drafted

You showed one clip of him making a bad read and to you that's providing facts? Haha guess what? There isn't a middle linebacker in college football who doesn't make a bad read occasionally. These guys are human. They aren't robots. I could show you a bunch of clips of James making great plays. Would that make him the next Ray Lewis?

No one is saying James was an incredible talent. You're getting "ripped into" because of the way you have chosen to categorize a young man who played his heart out for the Hawks. A young man who would have started on most D1 teams in the country last year. Stop playing the "I know more than you" card. The truth is you're just being an *******.

Plus 1 to this....

The list of how many middle linebackers Iowa has had better then James can be counted on one hand... That's saying something. He is who he is. He benefited from timing when he first came in that he got thrown to the wolves right out of the gate. And over these 4 years nobody Iowa has recruited over that time even gave him a run for his money on taking his job.
People also seem to forget that the difference between say him and Borland of Wisconsin isn't very much. Maybe a step of speed. Now I've criticized his play at times too. But I certainly recognize what all he did and has done for the program. Their is a line when it comes to berating and fairly analyzing ones play. I see their being gray area there but I think he more then crossed it with his comments.

You mean he was doing what literally everyone here does non-stop (spouting off their thought like it's the only one on the planet that matters), except his opinion was different from yours, so you're complaining about it?

I read what he said, and while he wasn't nice about it, he also wasn't wrong. Attack his argument, not his character, and then maybe he'll stop.

Are you even reading the same thread as me? Tha fuq.... ?

I'd put him above Klinkenborg, and I don't remember anyone before Fred Barr. Morris' career isn't one of the top ones, but to act like he was terrible is ridiculous. I'd gladly take him back for another year.

I'd take Klink, not as athletic but allot better against the run over his career.

Morris developed into a solid player as a senior, no one is saying he was terrible.

A list of MLB better than Morris isn't hard to figure. In the Ferentz era alone, there was Hodge, Angerer, Humpal, and Tarpanian, all of whom were drafted an had NFL careers. Klinkenborg had as many post-season honors as Morris. Of course, that completely excludes an entire century plus of Iowa football, including the greatest defensive player in Iowa history, Larry Station, as well as other greats in the Fry era.

James has really good career stats, partly because he started for 3 1/2 years, and played 13 games a season. Again, not saying he was a bad player, but he wasn't an all time great.

The fact that he's not an NFL player, by a long shot BTW, does not make him any less of a great Hawkeye or any less respected of a B1G linebacker. Those three attributes are in no way correlated to one another. I give you the example of Mitch King, who was a great Hawkeye and very well respected. He was a four year starter, two time all B1G 1st team, 2nd team All American, and B1G D-lineman of the year. Unlike James Morris, he dominated his position for several years. Like Morris, he went undrafted. He never made a roster.

And keep in mind that every, single NFL team decided that James was not worth a draft pick. That's the opinion of people who know the game much better than most of us here.

Mitch never made a roster? Weird............. Not what he said

Good point. I didn't dig into it enough. So the two time B1G 1st team, B1G defensive player of the year, and 2nd teal AA had 6 career special teams tackles over 7 games in two seasons.

I feel like my point still stands. Thanks for correcting me though.

Larry Station was a tremendous player for the Hawks but I'd go with Bob Sanders. I could certainly be wrong because of the advent of the internet and so much more information with the expansion of cable television.

'Dre Tippett. Best defensive player on Iowa and best Jewish player Iowa has ever had (no disrespect to Weisman).

No problem champ. Just lettin ya know theres more to his story
Didnt he have some career ending back surgery to where he's still earning an Nfl paycheck? Hmm could be wrong on that tho big t$$

Morris is only the 6th Iowa player to get 400 tackles in 4 years. Read what the linebacker coach said in the register today. Yeah, he was terrible and an damn academic all-American to boot!

I heard Matt Millen on College Football Live asked about best players not drafted and he mentioned Morris and said that he thinks the Patriots grabbed a sleeper, who will make the Pats.

The first name that comes to mind when I think of great talent evaluators is Matt Millen.

Learn the game Millen.

I thought he only watched film on WR's for the 1st round pick every year

I remember seeing some interview with old man Ford when Millen got brought on as the GM. His comment was something along the lines of "I've seen Millen on TV many times and he strikes me as a brilliant football mind." Sterling's gonna lose his team for slurs, but how did old man Ford not get kicked out of the NFL for senility?
