James Morris not drafted

Belittling would be saying something that's not true. We saw a lot of crap like I showed on the clip I presented. What we're getting from others is a bunch of generalities that they can't back up because they know nothing about football. Guys like you and Tork come on here and rip into people that differ from your opinion, even when they back it up with proof, and you guys respond with, "you're wrong, because we write stuff for a living". Learn something about the game and maybe you'll add something to this site.

You showed one clip of him making a bad read and to you that's providing facts? Haha guess what? There isn't a middle linebacker in college football who doesn't make a bad read occasionally. These guys are human. They aren't robots. I could show you a bunch of clips of James making great plays. Would that make him the next Ray Lewis?

No one is saying James was an incredible talent. You're getting "ripped into" because of the way you have chosen to categorize a young man who played his heart out for the Hawks. A young man who would have started on most D1 teams in the country last year. Stop playing the "I know more than you" card. The truth is you're just being an *******.

Not true at all. You could belittle a special needs person all day long by just saying "things that are true". It is still belittling them.

Lets just say your opinion on Morris isn't shared by all on this board (and make no mistake it is just an opinion) It most certainly comes of as you trying to degrade and belittle him by calling him out on a select few plays over a 4 year career.

Why all the shots at KF on Twitter the past couple seasons then?

He has invested more into the program for your entertainment than anybody but is somehow fair game?

He's paid handsomely to produce results. The players are college students, of whom not all even receive a scholarship to play. I'm not one to take many shots at Ferentz, FTR; just pointing out the difference.

That's why you'll never be on ESPN. You're too busy toeing the party line and trying to kiss butt for access to be a good journalist. JD moved to Oklahoma just to avoid this type on internal conflict of interest. Rob Howe is the only one with the intestinal fortitude to ask the tough questions.

Ok, I made a joke earlier in this threead, but people can't be serious about Morris...please tell me this is trolling. You pick one play out of a one game and say he always made bad reads. This guy called the defenses the past two years and got everyone on the same page every play...two top 10 defenses by the way. He led the team in interceptions and sacks and he was the recognized leader on a tope ten defense last year. In my book, with the way Reid and Woods have made aggression at the line of scrimmage a priority, Morris was money last year...and played GREAT football.

I think he sticks with NE.
Learn the damn game people! I love that line.

Look, I like Morris think he is a great kid and someone that I think is an outstanding human being. All that said I don't think he sticks in the NFL. He has made massive improvements over the last year but he is a step slow and takes wrong angles A LOT. And we are talking college here, in the NFL everyone is bigger and faster and that will be very evident when he is in camp. I also think his pass coverage skills are below average.

Bottom line he was a very good college LB but I don't think he will be anything other than a special teams player at the next level at best.

But that wasnt part of JD's original post that I responded to. He called people out for belittling people who work their tails off for our entertainment. KF would definitely fall into that category.

Jon is a big boy and I am sure he can defend himself if he feels the need.

Look, you play Morris in the middle in the NFL and misdirection plays are out the window.

I would guess that you could pull film on any player and show mistakes they made in their career. Morris was a great Hawkeye and a respected LB in the Big 10. That's not my opinion, this is the opinion of people who know the game much better than most of us here.

The fact that he's not an NFL player, by a long shot BTW, does not make him any less of a great Hawkeye or any less respected of a B1G linebacker. Those three attributes are in no way correlated to one another. I give you the example of Mitch King, who was a great Hawkeye and very well respected. He was a four year starter, two time all B1G 1st team, 2nd team All American, and B1G D-lineman of the year. Unlike James Morris, he dominated his position for several years. Like Morris, he went undrafted. He never made a roster.

And keep in mind that every, single NFL team decided that James was not worth a draft pick. That's the opinion of people who know the game much better than most of us here.

Yeah, this is actually a good point made without attacking anyone. In terms of a recent vintage big ten LB, I think Morris kind of reminds me of J Leman. Solid guy the fans liked to cheer for and wanted to see succeed. Great attitude. But went undrafted and kicked around for a couple of years before realizing he wasn't quite good enough for the pros.

Let's see your credentials that make you such a football expert, brah.

Actually, J Leman was a consensus All-American on a team that went to the Rose Bowl. Morris was 2nd team B1G on a team that went to the Outback Bowl. That just goes to show that sometimes great player in college doesn't have a place in the pros.

I'm just guessing here:
1 year started at Podunk HS
Had several college buddies on the FB team
season ticket holder after graduating college
10 year NCAA championship streak on Xbox

What does it matter what his credentials are? Every, single NFL team had an opportunity to use a draft pick on him, and they passed. Is that enough credentials?

You forgot the rec flag football team that he's currently the captain of. #expert

Have you not read through this thread and noticed him boasting himself as being more knowledgeable about football than anybody else posting in this thread? I'm not arguing that Morris should've been drafted or not, I'm just calling out a guy for being a complete d-bag and would like to know what makes him so much more qualified than everybody else.

You mean he was doing what literally everyone here does non-stop (spouting off their thought like it's the only one on the planet that matters), except his opinion was different from yours, so you're complaining about it?

I read what he said, and while he wasn't nice about it, he also wasn't wrong. Attack his argument, not his character, and then maybe he'll stop.

You and I are talking about 2 different things. Somebody saying he didn't get drafted because he played like crap is a lot different than saying he didn't get drafted because he may not have the measurables to compete in the NFL. I understand why he wasn't drafted, but to say he made crappy plays all of the time is wrong and uncalled for. Did he make mistakes? Sure, they all do, but he did much more good than bad.

Tarp was just as smart and probably more skilled and he was able to squeeze 2 years and a couple of starts out of it. You think Morris can do the same?

Last I read on Tarp was that he had bounced back from brain surgery, and played very well for the Texans last year. I think they expect him to be their starter next year.

He did a little more than just voice his opinion.

So he got the right read on the play I linked? He did that for 4 years. Terrible instincts. Teams picked on him and killed us because of it. I realize from reading the board over the years that you know nothing about football, (or writing or any other sports) but come on, you seriously can't think he was good. Stop drinking it.

Just intent on teaching you something about football, but you seem to stubborn or stupid to figure it out,
