ITT....help me make up my mind about KF

So you don't blame the coaching staff for the attrition? My opinion that's whats hurting this team the most. Young players and a below average 5 year QB. Do we still not have a dedicated QB coach on staff? Why not? When players started leaving the BBall program or threatening to leave Iowa made a change. You have to place the majorty of the players leaving on the coaching staff.

Sure, some blame is on the coaches. But you can't blame them for any of the legal issues or injuries. DL was more of Coach K and he left because he wouldn't get promoted. The coaches are playing the guys who they feel are the best at their position. If back-ups or freshmen don't like that then they can leave. A majority of the players had issues themselves, not the coaches.

Iowa City is not as "in the middle of nowhere" as penn state and nebraska, y'all. How's the history of those schools compared to Iower?
And IC is NOT conservative - it's a liberal bastion.

Carry on.

You are such a left wing tool. ;)

I used to think Iowa City was liberal too. Then I moved out of Iowa. Iowa City is a small sheltered place. The UofI may be liberal, many universities are. However the town is as white middle class conservative as they come.

IMO the current situation is very very stagnant. I think bringing in new blood with enthusiasm is the key, the thing is in football it takes a while to see what that enthusiasm brings in. Maybe the new blood will help, maybe not. Looking at bball, the enthusiasm Fran has for Iowa bball has resulted in improved play and better recruiting. I would love to see a guy like Bobby Diacco who has a passion for Iowa football and is an up and comer to take over, but as many say, KF aint going anywhere so hopefully he can rejuvinate and get his head back in the game.

We caught a glimpse of KF's idea of "shaking things up." It involved hiring his kid and a guy who got run out of Austin for incompetence. We'll see if it works.

Stick w/ KF, as long as you like, over the last 9 years (minus the 2009 'anomaly')...

1)Zero inspiration---every week being ALWAYS the least emotional, least inspired team in FBS. Apathy from the head coaches, assistants, players, etc. The ONLY people that seem to care are the fans (and we are rabid and almost jump off a cliff every time we lose)
2)Zero GAMEPLANNING---every down of every game of every year it's EXACTLY the same. VANILLA, VANILLA. Be are the EASIEST team outside of peewee football to prepare for. Our defensive schemes are so easy and weak, designed to never make a stop. Sit back in soft zones and let other teams pick us apart. Meanwhile other teams are throwing the kitchen sink at us every play of every week and our QBs and offense never get comfortable. Act like we are so talented we can just do the same thing every game and expect to win. Teams loaded with talent (Floridas, USCs, Texas', etc) can't even do that.
3)Zero adjustments---football is a game of chess, with adjustments and trying to keep the other off balance every play of every game. Arrogance to think that isn't necessary.
4)Horrific end of halves/game management(from clock, timeouts, and game planning)--NEVER make a stop at the end of any half, and we NEVER score at the end of any half (just take a knee and leave). KFs end-of-halves management blunders are legendary
5)Close games--ALWAYS get outcoached at end of, and lose every close game. Lost 9 Straight games decided by 3 pts or less from 2005-2008, and that trend continues on.
6)Salary--like doling out the 5th highest salary in FBS and easily the highest paid state worker by a landslide

If you like any/all of the above. KF is your man. Stick with him brah

Here is another one to add to the list.

How many times have KF coached teams lost because of special teams blunders. Not the first lose to an onside kick. How many times has a fake punt screwed the team? You can't get special teams down?!?

Well it ain't looking good for ol' KF. But at this point I gotta say: I think I will wait until the season is over before joining the pitchfork and torch brigade. I just feel like I owe him that much.

Don't worry KF will be here until he decides to hang it up. Unless I see a change to a more aggresive approach to the game, I won't change my opinion (see basketball).

On Iowa go hawks see you a kinnick on Saturday. I'll be the guy not booing and not complaining or 2nd guessing the coaches during the game. It's time to get to work hawkeyes and KF is still the boss.

Kinda this. I would still classify Iowa City as generally liberal, but living in Boston now does make IC's liberality pale in comparison.

If I may attempt to alter the OP's Ferentz calculus: I think your desire to want him or want to cast him aside should rest on whether you think he can re-create some of the good items on his resume that are mitigating your desire to see him cut loose. Personally, I'm willing to see how our last two highly-ranked (relatively) recruiting classes pan out. If we're still going 2-2 in the non-con in 2015 . . . buh bye.

Take these losses off the board, or at least a much better record against those opponents, and I would be far happier right now with the job KF has been doing. I've said before, that those types of losses are the difference between Iowa going 9-3, and 7-5. So yeah, for me, I guess it really does come down to losing these types of games that really has me steamed.

This is where I am at as well those 7 teams account for 20+ losses in the KF era. All 7 programs are .500 or below during his tenure. Chop those 20+ losses in half and I am a firm KF supporter......right now I am in the same boat as the OP I am not sure how I feel.

Kirk's not going anywhere until he's good and ready. But who would I like to see? Someone cut from the same cloth as Bill Snyder. I get sick and tired of hearing the excuses about it being little 'ol Iowa and how we shouldn't expect a consistent winner ever since that memorable call-in show on WHO where a woman dared ask Hayden when he'd take us to the next level? Small state, cold winters....and on it went. Lowered expectations just because it was little 'ol Iowa. Love ya Hayden but your stock dropped with me after that.

I want someone who doesn't buy into that b.s. and who doesn't lose games where Iowa is an overwhelming favorite. I'd love to see one NC in my lifetime and want a head coach not afraid to make that their goal, as well as build a consistent winning program.

I have the benefit of being at a school with less recruiting ranking than Iowa, but vastly faster athletes and a recognized offensive innovator. The scheme my school runs is based on getting guys in space by a quick pace and lots of people running really fast from multiple positions. They run wildcat, 5 wide, you name it and rack up mega yards. Two freshmen are the most electric players. Because they are young, the staff designs special plays to get them the ball as they learn the intracacies of the entire playbook.

Iowa is the exact opposite program. Iowa is predicated on running fewer plays, but executing those plays to perfection. This means that either you play guys that have been in the program for a while, or you suffer severe growing pains. It also means when players turn over, you will not have players with experience behind them to take over. Guys that were stuck behind the starters who set through the development process have either left the program, or will likely be passed over for a younger player who will be able to go through the extensive development necessary to play at the necessary level. If that young player isn't there to step in, it means very bad things.

Dallas Clark, Marvin McNutt, Robert Gallery, Ricky Stanzi, Eric Steinbach, Brandon Myers, Sean Considine, Mike Daniels, Babs, King, Kroul, Luebke, Klug... These are all guys that put in their time getting stuck before they eventually developed.

You see the same thing this year with the OLine.

The thing is that sometimes that means you have guys that accompany the young guys as they are developing that are just not that good. We know who they have been over the years. They have been gutty Hawks who have played their hearts out, but just are not good enough.

The difference is that some years these guys are holding down a spot until a guy like Sanders, or Gallery, or Angerer, etc is ready to step in while the other guys are finishing their development, and sometimes they need to step in when they are just beginning. When it's the latter, we get 1999, 2000, 2006, and 2007. When it's the former we get 2001 and 2008.

Look guy it's really simple 3 years of 7 wins or less, 3 years of 8 wins or more. It's Ferentz's pattern, any other excuse about lack of development or not using an innovative offense is just ******** and you know it.

And for all the mega yards your schools crazy offense may rack up, they can only put 13 up against Nebraska and can't even score on Oregon until garbage time and barely can beat Memphis.

I still feel that Ferentz has earned the right to finish this season with a young team and then be told to get to at least 8 wins or we go in a different direction. Teams have figured the Hawks out and we have not recruited well enough to just win playing old man's football.
