Is Iowa St really the better program. Still mad as hell...not apathy here....

Got to be the Twilight Zone right....from missing most of the first quarter due to ESPN's love of cutting into Iowa games, to missed field goal, but wait Ferentz called a bailout time out.....but then again not surprised based off of Ferentz's past and the only conclusion I can come to (at almost 11:30 at night) this loss falls on Ferentz/Davis and the play calling on offense. I can't fathom ISU walking out of Kinnick with a win with what we returned this year. I was concerned that they may have played some tougher opponents (and certainly bring their typical superbowl motivation), but should not have been able to come out of Kinnick with a win.

And, I can't see ISU with a winning record in either their league, or if they played Iowa's schedule (as soft as it maybe).

I'm just at a lost. There is no good way to spin this and the only thing I can come up with is this falls on in game coaching more than anything. I can't understand why we don't stretch the field (CJ anyone) and why we did not throw more on 3rd down in the 3rd quarter? This freaking clown team should have been dead to rights down 14-3 and Ferentz goes on cruise/snooze control.

Hayden has to be shaking his head somewhere.

This has to be a fluke right? But, then you see Ferentz's 7-9 record and those numbers say a trend.

Sad thing is, this game is still a no win situation for Iowa and unfortunately we are married to Ferentz who losses this game more than he wins it.

Mad as hell.

Only thing maybe, maybe you can spin out of this is typically we improve as the season goes on and will be playing for something at the end of the year (unlike the direction ISU typically heads in). Even in 81 when we lost to these jokers we were in the Rose Bowl at the end of the year.

ISU is the better program because they won the game. That is how this works. The sad part is they are bad which makes us horrible.

If you would have told me I would watch Iowa give the majority of snaps and game plan emphasis on guys like Bullock, Vandenburg, Hillyer over Canzeri, Daniels, Willies and Powell I would have said no freaking way. Then I went to the game and that is just what happened.

Good programs put their best players on the field the majority of the time regardless of any other BS reason. That includes making a tough call and going with CJ over Jake at QB.

But are they really the better program...lol:)

No, I get completely what you are saying. They hold the mantle this year, but it feels like it is the Iowa Football program vs the Clowns and Kirk Ferentz. Like you say, I just don't get what his deal is and he won't play to his strengths?

It is like playing Chess when your opponent maybe down its Queen and another power piece (a rook, bishop, knight) and then you let Ferentz come in and play the rest of the game for you pushing your pawns around aimlessly hoping the oppositions time runs out. Before you know it, your opponent check mates you.

Iowa State has a better team than Iowa this year. If they played again in Jack Trice/Kinnick/neutral field, I would pick Iowa St again.

Are they a better program? No. Iowa State is one of the worst Power 5 programs and has been for decades. Winning records for them are cause for celebration. Iowa has been to bowl games regularly and has won a few. Records speak for themselves. But you have to give ISU credit, head to head they handle Iowa regularly. However that doesn't change the fact that they will struggle to win games this year and every year, regardless of who they are playing.

The clowns still stink, there was a combination of favoritism from the refs benefiting them, and many lucky bounces. I do propose however that the series with the clowns is discontinued until the the officiating situation is corrected.

I give it a 99.9% that none of their remaining opponents scores 17 or less on them for the rest of the year. They will revert to the crap team that they are next week. Ferentz's record against these jokers is absolutely shameful.

It's not the officials, and that is a coward's way out. Just beat these fools. No excuses. But Kirk can't do it.

What sucks is Iowa has played like dog-crap (and getting worse) AT HOME.

We had three consecutive games in cozy Kinnick and REGRESSED each week.
(The ironic thing is, we had four consecutive home games in 2012).

Again, we have not played on the road yet. Five landmine fields await. That's what scary.

I posted 6 wrong calls that either directly or indirectly lead to at least a 24 point screen on another thread. I was at the game, it was one of the worst calls games I have ever seen. I think boycotting the series may be one of the few ways to get anything serious done about it.

Would you still pick Iowa St if Iowa started CJ and actually stretched the field? I guess I just refuse to give ISU that much credit and think their best player was Kirk Ferentz today (and yes the officials to a degree...some horrible calls in this game, but I don't think against these jokers it should come to that). I guess if Ferentz called the same game as today, well ya ISU could do it again.

I guess we will probably find the answers (at least an educated guess) out to that if, if, CJ gets any meaningful playing time soon. I'm really curious to see what this team's rhythm on offense would look like if CJ is leading the helm. Sometimes players shine better in games then in practice.

You cannot be serious. We scored a grand total of 17 points on a team giving up over 30 per game. We averaged 2.9 yds per carry and totaled 144 yards on a team that gave up 300 to an FCS team. 40 of our 144 yards came from the QB. We played Bullock extensively and ran him 12 freaking times for 22 yards while Canzeri got 3 touches. Powell played 5 plays while Willies 3 (who tore up the open practices and scored 2 huge TD's in the first 2 games) and neither received a target meanwhile guys like Hillyer and Vandenburg played many more snaps. Our QB threw one ball over 20 yards and targeted our wide outs a grand total of 6 times before the final drive.....

And you think this result was due to unlucky bounces and bad calls? Ok!

I'd be interested to hear what those are, because from where I sat, it looked like we got our *** handed to us due to horrible offense, horribly ill-timed lapses on defense, run of the mill crappy clock management, and AT BEST questionable personnel management.

**Edit - Also, I agree with the above poster. Crying screwjob by the officials is a coward's way out. If you take care of your business (like, say, maybe running for more than 2.9 yards per carry against a defense giving up over 500 yards per game) the zebras aren't much of a factor.

So maybe if Iowa had done everything you listed that they could have done, and the refs were not favoring the clowns so bad it would have been an ever bigger win for Iowa. Iowa vs clowns as it was without the favoritism would have been Iowa 27 Clowns 6. If Iowa would have done all the thins listed above and played their best it might have been Iowa 49 Clowns 6.

Thank Goodness UI plays in the TERRIBLE Big 10.....they would get waxed in the Big 12.

Lots of stupid in here. Discontinue a series to affect officiating? Truly hilarious.

Under Ferentz, Iowa State knows how to beat Iowa. Comparing how the rest of their seasons have gone for most of those years, they don't know much else about football, but they do know how to do that. They might not be the better program, but they are better at this game.

I would have to say our program is really down after attending the first 3 games. ISU is running a better program which does not say much since it remains in the bottom 25 in CFB.

We are really just that bad.
