Got to be the Twilight Zone right....from missing most of the first quarter due to ESPN's love of cutting into Iowa games, to missed field goal, but wait Ferentz called a bailout time out.....but then again not surprised based off of Ferentz's past and the only conclusion I can come to (at almost 11:30 at night) this loss falls on Ferentz/Davis and the play calling on offense. I can't fathom ISU walking out of Kinnick with a win with what we returned this year. I was concerned that they may have played some tougher opponents (and certainly bring their typical superbowl motivation), but should not have been able to come out of Kinnick with a win.
And, I can't see ISU with a winning record in either their league, or if they played Iowa's schedule (as soft as it maybe).
I'm just at a lost. There is no good way to spin this and the only thing I can come up with is this falls on in game coaching more than anything. I can't understand why we don't stretch the field (CJ anyone) and why we did not throw more on 3rd down in the 3rd quarter? This freaking clown team should have been dead to rights down 14-3 and Ferentz goes on cruise/snooze control.
Hayden has to be shaking his head somewhere.
This has to be a fluke right? But, then you see Ferentz's 7-9 record and those numbers say a trend.
Sad thing is, this game is still a no win situation for Iowa and unfortunately we are married to Ferentz who losses this game more than he wins it.
Mad as hell.
Only thing maybe, maybe you can spin out of this is typically we improve as the season goes on and will be playing for something at the end of the year (unlike the direction ISU typically heads in). Even in 81 when we lost to these jokers we were in the Rose Bowl at the end of the year.
