Is Iowa basketball in trouble already?

I say this because ISU just picked up Royce White (#19 recruit out of HS) today. They now will have Elgin Cook (#12 SF, Top 100), PSU transfer Chris Babb and a few other impressive kids for 2011 season.

I look at Iowa's recruits for 2011...nothing!! Don't get me wrong here, Basabe seems like a great pickup but Melvin Ejim for the Clones has been just as impressive in the Metro City league here in Des Moines. ISU has a bunch of tall guys this season and our biggest guy is 6'7"!! ISU/Hoiberg are putting together a nice nucleus of talent already. McCaffery needs to start getting some big commitments soon from the talent rich Iowa classes of 2011 & 2012, otherwise, he and the staff are going to have tough sledding against the Clones and in the Big Ten. Hoiberg's recruiting has been a B+ so far, McCaffery gets a C. But the coaching experience is the big thing. Hoiberg has nice talent but can he coach them?

How good was ISU with stinson, the all-american who was cousins with Starbury and dominated rucker park? I'm not worried about ISU.

Yes. ISU landing this kid will certainly kill our program. We will certainly not win a single big ten game now that ISU has this horse in their stable.

But Iowa should be better in football than ISU, and ISU should be better in basketball than Iowa because that's the way it is suppose to be. Although Iowa has had more success overall in BOTH!! Has ISU ever reached the Final Four or played in a BCS game??

R U serious? There is a very good reason that Royce White was even still available...no one in their right mind would touch him. The risk is far too great and ISU is walking a thin line on this one. Iowa does need his type, we have been there and done that back in the SA days.

As for our Iowa vs. ISU...it will all be played out on the court later this year.

I'm still trying to figure out how ISU's success or failure is directly tied to Iowa.

Mostly in terms of recruiting which is going to be hot in the next few years in state cuz there is actually some talent in the pipeline. not to mention the regional recruiting. Good players want to play with other good players. One thing that is still up in the air is going to be the attendance issue...which if you send recruits to the carver morgue then they won't want to go there to die. Its one thing to lose, its another to lose with no fans. You can see in the recent past with ISU with theri HOiberg and Meyer era and the Hawks last in state era with horner and brunner it was no coincidence that was the last really exciting and successful times for both programs...

With who?

And what is this great risk? He gets in trouble? Than boot him

Went to the NCAA tournament with a 19-12 record and as a 9 seed and lost in the 2nd round to eventual NCAA champion UNC.

I added a couple of things for you, that team with Stinson and Blaylock wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either and you are trying to make it sound like they got upset by UNC. There were a lot of teams that year that could have beaten ISU in the second round other than "eventual Champion UNC". Minnesota almost did it in the first round.

I have to agree on this. Its college basketball in the year 2010, not 1950. Players come and go like the breeze and its about a week before everyone moves on with their lives and forgets about it.

C'mon man. Pierre Pierce.

Apples and Oranges. Alford didn't take a chance on a kid who messed up from another school. He gave his own recruit a second chance. I am ok with both as you have to give kids second chances AND you have to toe the line a bit if you want to be successful

I am? Care to go back and read my response again?

Stinson wasn't a very highly ranked recruit. I don't know what you are talking about. Blalock was higher ranked

I really don't care what those 2 were ranked, the fact is they didn't do crap at ISU now did they? I guess they did make a final four, the only problem is it was the NIT.

I don't really get where you are coming from.

But if you want to play that game than Jeff Horner didn't really do much at Iowa did he?

Why don't we see if Hoiberg can even coach before we decide if they are going to own the state in basketball.

My vote is still with McCabe, Marble, Basabe and Cartwright.
