Iowa vs ISU sweet 16...

honestly, I'd just like to make it out of the first round.

no, the "first four" is NOT the first round, it's the PC name for "play in game".

Wait 'til next year. :) From Wikipedia:

  • From 2011 to 2015, the "First Four" became the first round. The round after the "First Four" is the "second round", and consists of 64 teams playing 32 games; it is played on Thursday and Friday. The next round, the "third round", consists of 32 teams playing 16 games that are played on Saturday and Sunday.[SUP][11][/SUP]
  • Starting in 2016, the round after the "First Four" will be renamed the "first round", and will consist of 64 teams playing 32 games that are played on Thursday and Friday. The next round will be renamed the "second round", and will consist of 32 teams playing 16 games that are played on Saturday and Sunday.

Where did I ever say ISU wasn't mentally tough? I just don't think they are as tough mentally as last year. Heck you and I had this conversation before the year started, that ISU would probably not go 13-2 in close games like they did last year, and they didn't (they last 4 close games this year).

Is that the only way to measure mental toughness? They also were a lot better on the road, never had a 3 game losing streak, and they never got completely blown out like they did a few times last year. I just think the toughness thing is totally overblown especially in hindsight.

I wish we were where ISU is right now.

I don't agree with this. It worked in the short term...and will continue to work as long as Fred is there. But it's not the way I want to do it.

Fran's way takes longer but it builds a lasting foundation. When Fran leaves Iowa the shelves should be stocked for the next coach. When Fred leaves the transfer pipeline goes away.

The team I'm told is better, but it really didn't result in any more wins, and they had several very bad losses. S. Carolina, Texas Tech, and K-State. If the team is better they win those games, and win the Big12, and are a #2 seed.

You might think it is picking nits, but ISU let a golden opportunity slip away from them this year. They beat Kansas now 4 out of the last 6 times, yet they can't dethrone them from the top of the conference, or on the national stage (#3 seed vs #2 seed).

BLASPHEMY! The Clowns will come a running, you have just blasphemed their deity Hoiberg. Some might think making fun of Muhammad is dangerous.....you sir will find out that questioning Hoiball is a line NOT to be crossed.

He didn't question Hoiberg at all. He said it'll keep working as long as Hoiberg is there, and it's working pretty damn well with him there. Will it be sustainable for the next coach? Maybe, maybe not. But ISU is going to consistently be a nationally relevant program as long as he's there.

Coming from the guy PRETENDING to be a Hawk fan......Just let it go man, everyone knows you are a Clown troll, talk about wasted effort.

Pretty hilarious listening to a Hawkeye fan analyze the mental toughness of a basketball team as though he knows the team personally. Wasn't it the Hawkeyes who went from being a top ten team a year ago to not even making the tournament?? This same Hawkeye team that got embarassed by their rival on their home floor earlier in the year?

The ISU team last year didn't play from behind a lot?? Are you serious? You haze ZERO clue what you're talking about. Off the top of my head we won several games that we trailed heavily in. Michigan, UNI, Iowa, Okie State, Baylor (big 12 title) UNC.

And I agree I will be disappointed if we don't make the elite 8 or further. Just the difference between ISU and Iowa. Hawks are happy to make the tournament. Meanwhile ISU has final 4 aspirations. Heck even Jon Miller picked them to make the national title game along with several other analysts. The fact that the founder of this website picked ISU that far has got to cut deep. I feel for ya guys. I remember a couple year ago when we lost clyburn Mcgee and babb you thought iowa was taking over huh? Frans hard work on the recruiting trail.

This is the exact opposite of the conversations we see during football season. It's almost bizarre.

Iowa was mentally weak last year, and us Hawk fans realized it. I know it is your nature to be a d0uche, but lets fact it, the ISU team isn't as mentally tough as last year, should I post all the links of Clown fans discussing this all year long? It isn't just me saying it.

Why would it bother me if ISU goes far or if JD picks them to go far in the NCAA? I mean I might regret it when they get knocked out, but really when you look at it the only way they lose before the elite 8 game, is just losing it between the ears, as there isn't a team that can match up with them in this part of the bracket.

Doesn't Fran have more transfers starting now then Fred?

Taking in guys who have a red flag in their files that keep better programs away was a very effective way to jump start the program. Now, there isn't any recruit in the country who wouldn't at least take a call from Hoiberg. That doesn't mean the program is dirty. Your post reeks of jealousy (not that I blame you; I wish we were where ISU is right now).

It just seemed "unusual" to me, given the circumstances.

Jealous? Hardly. ISU can win the national championship in FB and BB 100 years straight....being a Hawkeye fan will still be 1000x better than being an ISU fan. There is no way I would ever want to be associated with that university or its fan base.

Lifelong Hawkeye fan and alum....and proud of it!

The Iowa shelves should be stocked? Which recent recruits are you referring to?

Fran will go after a 5th year transfer post player HARD this offseason! You can count on that they have Adam Woodbury and no one else. You won't hear a word about it from Hawk fans though. When Fran goes after transfers (usually never gets them) it is all well and good.

Everyone knows transfers are part of the game (both losing them and getting them). Even an idiot like you can figure out that ISU having 13-15 players exit the program and 13-15 transfers signed over 5 years is at a whole other level. ISU is nationally know for this for a reason, I'm not sure why Clowns get their panties in a bunch when many refer to it (listen to a Clown broadcast, even all the announcers talk about it). It isn't just Iowa fans that say it.

Being better than bad? If Texas Oklahoma Kansas and Iowa State are bad what does that make Iowa? They got absolutely embarassed by two of those bad teams. Literally not even close games.

Texas: I call taking a last second shot with 8 seconds left in the game and no shot clock bad. Doesn't matter how you got there. You don't have to worry about the shot clock, you just have to make sure you take the shot with 3 seconds or less on the clock. That way the opponent doesn't even have a chance (unless you call a last second full-court heave a chance). Texas handed a golden opportunity to ISU and they took advantage on good play by Monte Morris.

Oklahoma: This one is truly on Spangler. He got a perfect pass that he handled cleanly. He was 2 feet from the rim. As he put the ball up, it kind of slipped from his hand and he missed the shot that would have put it into overtime. And ISU had played well to get back into the game, but Oklahoma had come back from being down 5 with two minutes to go and was one missed layup from overtime.

Kansas: Perry Ellis, the leader of KU, was basically playing on 1 leg. In their two regular season games (when he was healthy) he was a combined 13-27 with 36 points and 17 boards. In the Big 12 tournament game he was 2-10 with 7 points and 9 boards, and it wasn't because ISU's defense was so much better. Add in the fact that Mason has probably his worst game all year and it spells disaster for Kansas. ISU had nothing to do with Ellis's injury and little to do with Mason missing shots he normally makes (again, they didn't play much defense).

I'd say it was some luck and some bad play by the opponents, with about 15-20 minutes per game of good play from ISU.

Hahaha just because Fred doesn't sign three star recruit after three star recruit with no other major offers he must be orchestrating illegal payments huh. Oh congrats on yet another three star recruit with no major offers you guys are really stockpiling them up over there. Fred will be here long after Fran don't you even worry about that.

Lots of rumors swirling around that his buddy Kevin McHale wants him to come coach the Rockets.

Yeah the transfers are great! Keep them coming! Can't beat blue bloods unless you can recruit against them. Can't recruit against them unless you win consistently like them. Hoiberg is a genius and now the tide is turning. Better recruits are starting to make their way to Ames. His plan worked to perfection.
