If the temperature of the field is so hot, why don't they cover it with a big white sheet prior to games? It's not like the grass needs sun to grow.

The grounds crew should have sprayed the field with water right before the game and during halftime, once the band was done. The cold water helps to cool the rubber pellets and field material and provides some evaporative cooling during the game. Not a lot but every little bit helps.

Done in other sports.
