Iowa v Indiana Predictions

I don't think Gesell will be guarding Yogi, it becomes a dunkfest if that happens. Gesell is competent enough of a defender to run with Hulls. Clemmons has to be on the ball against Yogi to provide some interference to allow Iowa's big guys to not leave Zeller, but still rotate over to contest. Gesell can't provide that interference against Yogi.

don't see a dunk fest myself as Yogi is scoring 6.4 ppg in 26.0 mpg
Gesell 9.4 ppg in 25.1 mpg, to me the edge goes to Gesell
as for Gatens when the team needed him the most in the NIT it was White, Marble, McCabe and Basabe that scored 69 points in a 84-75 victory, Gaten had a whopping 7 points in the Dayton game
the Oregon game, Marble 31 points, White 22 points, Basabe 17 points for a total of 70 points in a 108-97 point loss. again Gatens had just 7 points.
this is what Iowa returned and what Fran's has added a top 25 class too.. it was the younger players that stepped forward, and they all are back, this is why I am not scared of Indiana, and it appears some fans overlook.

Hawks won by 12 in Carver last year with a much worse team. I don't see any reason to believe they won't win by more this year.

Hawks 87
Hoosiers 68

another note Iowa had 4 players in dbl digits
Marble 10 points
Oglesby 11 points
Basabe 13 points
Gatens 30 points
and White had 8 points and 10 rebounds in that win over Indiana\
and Cartwright did not play
Gatens, Archie, Stubbs and Brommer are gone
Ican tell Iowa lost some real NBA Level talent there.

Herby - none of the guys mentioned there got drafted, so you're obviously wrong about losing NBA talent. Although the book on Stubbs isn't closed yet, so we should probably wait to make a judgement on him.

Yogi won't be the one scoring, good lord. With guys like Oladipo/Zeller/Watford going towards the basket behind him, or Iowa rotating to stop dribble penetration they will be wide open. I don't care how many Yogi scores, it will be how many assists and dunks he causes. Gesell is not good enough of a defender to guard him one on one.

Oregon doesn't play defense, Indiana does, big difference. There is a significant difference between Oregon and Indiana, talent being one of them, coaching another.

how stupid of me to think the 13th best PG Gesell doesn't stand a chance in hell against the #3 pg in the great and allmighty Yogi of gods gift to the BB world

not to mention White or Woodbury stand no chance at all, Fran should just forfiet to save being embarressed by being shutout 150 to nothing

This is why people think you are an idiot. Answer this question: Do you really believe Gesell can defend Yogi in man to man? Answer this one: Who would you rather guard Hulls, who doesn't go to the basket?

Red, seriously, settle the hell down, it makes the most sense to have Clemmons on Yogi for his on the ball defense and let Gesell run with Hulls off the ball.

Wish list; Iowa 78 Indiana 66
More likely; Iowa 72 Indiana 67

Home court advantage holds true as Iowa squeaks by on late game free throws by Gesell after a sea saw battle the entire game. Sell out crowd goes nuts and fans storms floor after win. :D

so you are saying Oladipo will run circles around Marble, and the better question is can Yogi guard Gessell. as I have pointed out Iowa matches up with Indiana in EVERY reguard, I will take a match up of Gesell vs YOGI every chance I can, and a Clemmons vs Hull as well.
sorry but Indiana does not strike the fear in me like it does you

To summarize - if you think Iowa is going to lose to the #5 team in the country then you are an idiot

Ever think the attention Gatens commanded was part of the reason those other guys got so many good looks?

of course not, you don't miss Gatens at all.

Wow, you seriously don't understand. Why throw Marble/Oladipo out there? FWIW, if Oladipo takes a lot of chances, Marble has the advantage.

Yes, Yogi can guard Gesell and I seriously doubt he guards him, the better question is can Hulls guard Gesell as he hasn't defended for four years.

Indiana is a very good team with better players than Iowa weather you like it or not, to not admit that is simply ignorant. I have been picking Iowa to win this game forever, so if you think I don't have confidence in Iowa you are a lunatic.

It comes down to rebounding and I don't care what the stats say about each team against far less than good competition either, they don't matter until the end of the year. The other factor is what team turns the ball over the least, both teams have had times where scoring was optional and turning it over was the best option offensively.
