Iowa v Indiana Predictions

I'm gonna be like Gerry DeNardo and just give a key to the game, rather than my prediction.
Home court has been big for the Hawks the past couple seasons (in general, historically as well). If CHA can get a raucous crowd, and we get going early it could be a nice ending for the Fighting Herkys. If the crowd isn't there or we go down big early, it will be a long night and likely an easy win for the whosiers.
Just my 2¢.

I like Gerry D. but the dude is way, way too much of a KF lover you could even call him a "homer".

I think Carver is rocking unlike it has in a while, it comes down to the final few possessions and end score 73-78. IU. :(

Iowa has to make the game ugly to win.

The keys to an Iowa victory:
1. Hulls kept under 10 pts.
2. Do not leave Hulls or Zeller, let Ferrell score
3. Keep the game at a slower pace, IU runs less talented teams off the floor, rebound
4. Hit 5+ 3 pt shots
5. Marble vs. Oladipo has to go favorable to Iowa

Marble's offense is going to be a huge key as IU will probably just put Oladipo on him and ask anyone else to beat them. The one thing about Oladipo, he is extremely athletic and feels he can recover, so he does take a lot of chances. Marble has to use those to get him in foul trouble as Oladipo recovers from taking a chance.

Pull up some film of Oladipo against, say Trey Burke, he over played a ton of things because of his athleticism, but he got into foul trouble recovering. This is just the game off the top of my head I can think of because I was there.

If Iowa rebounds close to even with IU, then they have a real shot. Do not help off of Hulls or Zeller and allow everyone else beat you.

Iowa 63
Indiana 60

I wonder if Mel remembers this...

Remember when he tried to go at Jarryd?

That was they play that propelled Iowa in that game I think, changed the whole Iowa squad.

Edit: I must say that was a crazy dunk though, one of the more impressive ones that isn't forgettable.

I remember then Jarryd blocked his next dunk attempt and got called for a weak foul.
Cole was already high on my list of Hawkeye players, he elevated higher at that moment.

Basically wasn't having anyone disrespecting a member of his family.

Gotta keep it close down the stretch, and Fran has to have the right personnel in to close the deal...Iowa will have to play 'D' and rebound like their life depended on it. Our freshman will grow up into men when this game is over.....Iowa-67, Indiana-66

Hoosiers - 73
Hawkeyes - 71

Agree Jarryd moved way up at that moment and it was a weak foul.

Those are the kinds of plays that Iowa has missed for a long time, a guy that will challenge something like that and if called for a foul, they don't make the shot.

That to me was probably the first game for me that I saw something different about Iowa basketball.

hawks lose by 7, boy i hope i'm wrong! Big Ten is going to be nasty this season, hope the Hawks can find a way to win 10 conference games and then go dancing.

this will be ugly folks, I see a double digit loss. Iowas only hope is for solid 3 point shooting.

not worried about rebounding Iowa avg 41.6 rpg vs Indiana at 42.3 rpg
gee wilikers a whole .7 rpg more
Indiana against Coppin ST had 37 rebounds and Iowa had 50. against ISU who currently is ranked 7th nationally and Iowa outrebounded them, these are the type of games where White likes to step up his game. people worry to much about how the starters will matchup, it will be won by the reserves
May, McCabe, Oglesby, Basabe, Olaseni and even Ingram. the fresher players at the end of the game will make the defense better
Clemmons vs Hull
Gesell vs Ferral
Marble vs Oladipo or May vs Oladipo
May vs Sheehey or Marble vs Sheehey
White vs Watford
Woodbury vs Zeller
Olaseni vs Jurkin
the rest will be available to be used as needed\
Iowa win at home and loses at Indiana,, home court is the difference

people point Gatens shooting in the 2nd game but don't mention Zellers dunking in their win.
in every game somebody steps up. this years its a question of who

You realize that no one was talking about the Indiana win because you were focused on the game Iowa won but you failed to mention or even acknowledge that Gatens scoring over 40% of the teams points as a huge impact on that game.

I do agree that both games someone stepped up, maybe an Iowa player does but maybe the NPOY does as well.

he hasn't won it yet, at this point in time it is all conjecture and nothing more, that award will go to a player on the NT Team.
sorry last year Iowa's tallest players to go up against Zeller were Brommer and Archie at 6'9 otherwise it was 6'7 Basabe and McCabe, this year is a 7 FOOTER VS a 7 FOOTER. with a improving Gabe at 6'10 with the reach of a 7'3 kid, that's a major jump in both Size and Talent, unless you are saying the combination of Brom/Arch were the best we have had in years. that's comparable to the combo of Payne/Stokes
