Iowa - Turn the Fuckin' Page Already.

This was, without a doubt the worst display of offense I've seen since watching Iowa football. Can you name one that was worse? So I'm baffled. How can a B1G team put something so bad out on the field. I watched Northwestern, Nebraska, Indiana, Illinois, and others over the weekend. Iowa was far worse than any of them. I just can't figure it out. Is SD SU that good on defense?

Previous ineffective Iowa QBs you could make the weak defense they were bad but at least they didn’t have a lot of turnovers. Petras you can’t say that. It can’t get any worse.

...............unless he turned the ball over more. This could possibly be the threshold that KF is hanging on to.

I'm old enough to remember the 1999 offense, I think that was the worse offense I've ever watched. Although I'm not gonna lie, Scott Mullin or Randy Reiners at QB would feel like an upgrade over Petras.

Yea, but that is Air Force's identify. They run the triple option which is geared for running. Not the same comparison. They expect to run the ball well. Iowa is trying to have a balanced attack and are not doing either well.

Also, Air Force ended up with 582 yrd's rushing and 23 first downs. You conveniently failed to mention that. They had a 9.4 yrd average for runs, and 5 rushing TD's. Again, failed to mention. They still had 109 yrds passing. Only 3 of 6 passing but with a 36.3 yrd average on completions, so the passes went downfield and were effective to keep the defense honest. One of them went for a TD. Air Force ended up with 691 yrds of total offense,.

You want to try again?

I don't know about others, but that would be a fun game to watch.

No sure how I got thedukeofearl in the message. Deleted is post body as it wasn't pertinent to my response to the Air Force post.

I am honored to be inadvertently included in your post, Melrose

There was a game vs Arizona in the early Fry era that ended up with a baseball score. The score was like 5-3. Not sure how many yards of offense were gained

They mentioned this on the broadcast when we were up 5-3. It was the last time a game has finished 5-3.

I didn't realize they were brothers until the announcer mentioned it on the broadcast. I rewound it twice to make sure I heard that correctly. They should not assume before spouting off.

They are not brothers.... unless brothers born 22 years apart and in different cities in different states. It had been mentioned multiple times in the past that Norm and Phil are not even related, as far as either one of them knew.

And I'm old enough to remember the offense of the '70s. The band would play the Hawkeye fight song for first downs because if they waited for touchdowns or field goals they might not play it at all.

I was looking at that earlier. I didn’t become a fan until the Fry years so I don’t even remember the Commings years, which looked brutal. Glad I don’t remember it.

It was brutal.
Utilizing an antiquated offensive scheme.
Running repeatedly between the tackles, despite no success.
No passing game to speak of.
Almost no scoring.

Nothing at all like today....

Every other school in the country that scored 20 or fewer points this week lost. It's very hard to win the way Iowa wins.

Yea I realized that and chuckled when I heard it by the announcer.

Yea, I was trying to think of the year and that was it. I might have been thinking of that Kyle McCann year. I swear they couldn't even complete a pass downfield. It was brutal. Saturday's game brought those memories back.

I should do some research, KF has got to have the majority of these games if looking at the top 10 of these games. I be you he has 40% of them.

Watching KM out there most of the time with BB on the bench was painful in 01. That team was so close to being terrific one year before it was.

There was a famous season opener between Illinois and Northwestern back is the late seventies (when the B1G played a full round Robin and frequently opened with conference games) and Sports Illustrated famously speculated if either teams was good enough to win the game.

They were dead on. It ended in a 0-0 tie. Worse yet, it was played on one of those early season Champaign/Urbana Saturdays where it felt like your shoes were going to melt.

Hottest Kinnick game I can remember? Vs Colorado in 1988 on the old turf. But it may not have been humid that day. Those who were in Kansas City for the 2000 season opener have said it was as humid as it was hot and the air wasn't moving.

I've been to Kansas City in late August. It can be worse than Texas or Florida.
