Iowa total offense ranking

130 teams. Iowa was 120th before Wisky game. Currently 124th. Only P5 school worse is Colorado. The numbers don't lie....our offense sucks. The two questions that need answered are is this exceptable and is anyone going to be held accountable.

It should not be acceptable. - for as long as offense has been a challenge for Iowa.
One season of extremely poor offense, or even an occasional off year, is an anomaly. Multiple seasons in the bottom tier is a problem. A problem which is obviously not being addressed.
I think this is the root cause of the calls for a coaching change. Most Hawk fans are tired of the same boring, inept and impotent offense year after year. They want change, but the current staff either will not or can not change.
Thus, the only other alternative to effect any 'change' is a change in the coaching staff itself.

I would love to see the past 5 seasons, have we ever cracked the top 100 since Brian took over? He is a joke, move him to o line where he belongs and find a REAL coordinator that knows how to call an offense. These numbers hurt the team, and also kill recruiting.

Funny you ask, because I actually posted this on another site. Rankings are based on total offense.

The numbers are our rank out of the number of teams nationally. I couldn't find the 1999 stats but they had to be bad.

Those stats are truly depressing

If Bill Walsh rose from the dead and convinced Andy Reid to take a leave of absence for the remainder of this season to see what the two could put together as Co-Offensive Coordinators at the University of Iowa, the offense would improve perhaps 10%. The Ferentz's get Bill Belichick to offer his left nut as sacrifice to bring Dante Scarnecchia out of retirement to coach the O-Line and maybe the Iowa offense moves up to 80th by the end of the season. We can keep beating a dead horse or we can just accept that the offensive line is three revolving doors on any given play. Linderbaum and whichever of the other four decides to block that play are the only exceptions.

Yep. Remember when everyone wanted KOK's head? There were some struggles offensively when he was our OC as well, but at least he had some offenses that were Top 30-50'ish or so. Haven't even really sniffed that since. I know he had some pretty good personnel at times (2002 offense was loaded) but still.

Worst part, fixing it doesn't seem to be a topic.

Just a quick look at the numbers. Since 2002, we've had 5 seasons where we didn't get an OL drafted. We've also had 5 seasons below 100th in total offense. In three of the years where we didn't get an OL drafted, we had 3 of our 5 seasons in below 100th in total offense. Another year we were 92nd. Obviously Linderbaum will get drafted, but the other 4 aren't ready for prime time yet and, IMO, is the reason our offense is where it is.

What happened in 2014 that the offensive numbers are actually decent? Rudock got ran out of town and it felt like Ferentz was going to be right behind him. CJB was playing, but he was playing 2 quarters a game at most.

If Iowa was 66th in total offense right now they would be undefeated.

You see it as number 124 out of 130 I tend to look at it from the other side as were the 6th worst offense in the country. Makes me feel like were still a top 10 team.

Do you suppose Bwian has KPIs like the rest of us. You know benchmarks for success?

now lets discuss the culture of accountability ...no neverminded KF has low standards, still thinks you can win championships with 22 points per game.

We are last in the B10 in average yards per play and first downs.
OC's who are the worst in their league / nation are usually fired. Mid-season.

1) How many other P5 schools ask their O-Line to learn 2, 3, even 4 different positions?

2) How much do they miss having Reece Morgan on staff to help develop the 1-2 star recruits?

Based on this data:

- The average ranking of the O'Keefe offenses was the 44th percentile
- Davis 27th percentile
- Ferentz 20th percentile

# of seasons total offense ranked in the top 50%:
-O'Keefe 6/12
-Davis 0/5
-Ferentz 0/5

Highest offensive ranking
- O'Keefe 89th percentile (2002)
- Davis 48th percentile (2014)
- Ferentz 31st percentile (2020)

Yes, the offense regressed under Davis.
And. yes. the offense has regressed even more under Ferentz
And, no, it is not some 'off-year' anomaly.

This stuff doesn't impress KF. What about the USC game? What about the OSU game...drop mic and walk off. Ya but... its gotta be about more than one game every 15 games..ya know?

The reason for this is that KF has low expectations of offense. Or its just a blind spot. You only need to score 22 points and you can win most of your games philosophy. His first priority is to win his way and if he can't win (how ever many) his way, he'd prefer to loose. Translated, winning championships is not the priority.

Wow, look at the years Iowa has had a mobile QB. Also, yes, KOK has had the most consistent seasons as OC.

OK. It's time to move on from this experience. Can you imagine what Iowa's team could do with an average to above average offense. They'd be in the hunt most years.

WTF,? The writing is on the wall. The Ferentz's at this point are just continuing to fleece the state of Iowa out of millions of $$$$$$$. When are we going to wake up, fight back, and state "That's enough!!". Somebody in the UofI administration and/or boosters need to grow a set of balls and end this.
