How many of Iowa's secondary make it as cornerbacks in the NFL? How many of those Iowa players you listed are on NFL special teams, for example? That means they're NFL fast - and like to tackle.

Most all of them have had some playing time in the secondary, not just specials. Hell, I even left out Bob Sanders, the best of them all. I am sure I probably missed a few others, too.

Lowery will help the safeties with his go-go gadget arms. The one handed pick to seal the deal vs the clowns will pump up the secondary.

You miss the point. Ultimately, we are calling out the coaching staff for not being able to recruit d-backs with better talent.

Some of that is on the D-Line. They complement each other. The lack of a pass rush and the long passes stand out like big sore red thumbs. They are related. Need to break down each of those 8 to see which was the bigger issue each time.

The d-line is very good, we've just seen tough o-lines. Not even Tyler Sash could maintain coverage for the 9 seconds per play that the opposing o-lines are giving the QBs. There is nothing wrong with this team. WE HAVE A WINNING RECORD!!!!

You would have to break down each of those plays for your stat to actually back up your opinon... To many variables are in the mix to throw that stat out to back up the poor safety play opinion

It is hard for an amateur like me(and most of you) to critically evaluate too many players but there were two plays in the 4th Q against ISU that caused me concern about safety play. On the Lowery INT both our safeties were trailing that play. If BJ does not get that ball it is a TD. Also how does ISU complete a deep post route against what is obviously the infamous 'prevent' defense without a safety in sight?
Did Nico Law not play last year? That's what makes me say he warrants more playing time. I thought I said this in my OP.

What you said is what made me create this thread. Safety play was poor against ISU and they burnt the safteys on a lot of occasions.
Also, to those who say that we need more pass rush from the Dline.... You can't expect the Dline to get a pass rush every single time. I thought they pressured the QB pretty damn well against ISU. The Dline also has to stop the run and contain the QB as well. But yes on occasion the Dline can be blamed. I mean we all know they weren't exactly studs last year.
To the people that say not many can hold good coverage for 9 seconds without any pressure... You're exactly right but to my knowledge Iowa's safeties don't play a lot of man to man....
Sorry for those who can't handle talking football and think I'm bashing the adults. I have nothing but respect for every Iowa football player and all the hard work they put into the program. They are grown ups, they are most likely not reading this message board, so I think we're okay.

This is the best quote on this thread. It would be amazing to see how much better our safety play would be if we had ANY type of pass rush. I like Lowdermilk, for a young player, I feel good about him. PLUS, you got to agree that we've blitzed more...and those blitzes seem to be of the all out variety. It's gonna cause people to look really bad at times.

Oh so you think the coaches are playing the inferior player between Law and Lowdermilk.
Since Law, in your opinion, played better last year there is no way Lowdermilk could have improved and earned the playing time.
