Iowa Press Release on Brandon Hutton Being Granted Release

If Hutton is a difference maker and is leaving for greener pastures, he will be the first one in 6 years to do so. That's not bad. Every other player that has left under Fran has left because they weren't good enough to play here.

There is no reason to be believe Hutton was good. He didn't blow up on AAU, he didn't garner all state honors his senior year, he didn't flash in the prime time league, and the gossip is that he was the furthest behind of the freshman wings. He had very limited offense, and you can't play a wing with no shout outside of 10 feet.

I left voicemail, already. I'm not going to share reason....cause fk you guys. Bit if there is a reason other than displeasure about redshirt/playing time, I will simply post "I was wrong, good luck to him".
Not sure how long it will take to get called back.
you mean you had to leave a voice mail for Fran? I'm surprised he didn't take your call when your number popped up

Hutton might be a lot like Eric May. A great athlete who's a pretty decent basketball player.

So you guys have never seen him play a second of BB and have decided that he was the answer to all of our problem.....smsh....it never stops.

BTW there will be another transfer, the Hutton transfer wasn't really that quiet of a thing. I had heard as much awhile ago, and actuall Dochmen alluded to a couple transfers in his podcast, so I'm sure he also knew Hutton was one of them.

Dean can you give us any information on who might be next? I am assuming if it is anyone it would be Ellingson or Fleming.

I certainly wouldn't share anything either if those things are the case. I knew that he didn't want to redshirt, but heard the staff wanted him to so he could focus on his school work and getting used to a pretty different environment than where he came from.

I wish him nothing but the best, I just wouldn't have say that he was gonna be a savior for us this year. Maybe a couple years from, but I doubt seriously that he would have been a difference maker this year from what I was told.

I'm not 100% sure on this, as I wasn't on Hutton. It isn't like I talked to any of these kids, I just hear things from people who turn out to be right most of the time. Like Lightning said, Hutton was not happy about the red shirt, and it was a strong possibility that he would leave. I was pretty sure on Hutton, but less sure on the second one, but you do have the names right, lets just put it that way.

I don't know what the freak Fran is doing but kids leave...he loses transfers to Creighton etc. I'm not really sure what's going on but I'm not convinced that this isn't the beginning of the end of a plateau that has peaked has unfortunately, has begun to go down hill. I dunno maybe he'll pull a KF and get back to the big dance next year without losing all the games in the last month of the season like he always does.

With 5 incoming Fr this year (Williams, Wagner, Moss, Hutton, Flemming) and a RS FR in Ellingson, & Baer there was bound to be a couple transfers. It isn't all that bad of a thing, the staff has seen them for a year in practice and they know all of their games at this point. The must keep guys are Baer, Williams, Moss, and Wagner.

Yeah I don't get the doom and gloom from one person who never played a minute for Iowa. But what do I know? Best of luck to Mr. Hutton, and hopefully Fran can secure someone who can help next year.

So Dean if you had to guess does the last name start with an E or an F? Just a guess, we're just spit balling here!:)

I wouldn't be all that shocked if both leave...E for sure is not BIG TEn type of player from what we saw on the court and F who knows really?

Agree with your point about the must keeps. We all appreciate each player that becomes a Hawkeye and it's the craps when it doesn't work out for whatever reason. Tell them thanks and wish them the best. Upside of this and IF another not on the must keep list leaves it gets Baer a much deserved scholarship and opens up one for a possible 5th year impact guy or other transfer.

Hutton specifics aside... many of us saw this coming a year ago.

Too many guys competing for the same playing time (2s and 3s...ok, maybe an undersized 4) in back to back classes. No true point guards or bigs...something IOWA desperately needs.

It was just a matter of who...and when.

Interesting.

I betcha Fran sat down Baer and said the same thing last year.

Baer didn't pout, tuck tail and run. He worked it. He earned it. He'll reap it.

No illegal activity. No academic problems. But, "I was still wrong. Good luck Brandon Hutton". We'll be fine.

He did say something about going somewhere to play a bigger roll in his statement. From that and your post I assume he was way behind. Still sucks tho. With his athleticism he might have caught up. It also sucks because he and Moss were two unknowns that I was really hopeful for. Now we're down to one.

Fran said he was ultra competitive and he probably didn't get any assurance from the coaching staff that he would play much this coming year. Iowa has a lot of players that can play whatever position he might of played. He was a guy that I was looking forward to watching play, but he probably wouldn't of gotten much of a chance next year.

It's a win win win... Hutton gets to go find a program that makes him happy... Baer gets the scholarship he earned... Fran gets to find another player to evaluate.

No downside in any of that.

He might not ever be an effective scorer but he brings a lot to the table in attitude, toughness and defense. Just don't cry about those things being deficient next season.

You just described our starting center from this year, who gets very little love on HN.
