Iowa Point Guards

"None of that matters now, though, Jordan said. All of them have Iowa black-and-gold gear and will be at his games rooting him on."

About time they came to their senses! Lol

I like the comeradery that Fran is encouraging among his PGs. MG and Sapp set a good example for that at Iowa. JB is going to be a more efficient scorer than MG. He's a more aggressive and better shooter, it's as simple as that. However, if CW is as aggressive with his drives as he was in the PTL, he will be a threat too.

The idea of CW and JB playing some minutes together sounds good at first glance. Fran does not discourage that expectation at all. Then one realizes that there are only so many minutes at guard. If the 2 PGs are taking some time at SG and Jok is taking 30 min there too, then there aren't many minutes left at the 2G. It will significantly take away from our expected athleticism at guard if Moss plays little or no role this year.

I have no idea how you could possibly know that

It makes sense to me. How do you know he doesn't know it? I think Bohannon will be pretty good, but its hard to imagine he will get many minutes his first year unless he is really impressive.

I don't know how anyone can say a recruit with no major conference offers that was clearly a fallback recruit for us is going to be a more efficient scorer than our honorable mention all conference PG that just graduated. Please explain to me how that makes sense

It doesn't make sense to me that you can say he won't be if he gets the minutes in games. I've been reading how you have been knocking the guy ever since he committed. You don't know what his career is going to be. I enjoyed watching Gesell, but his career is over with. If Gesell was on the teams Bohannon will be on it would of been a lot easier on the guy in games. Bohannon probably will be playing behind Williams for at least three years.

Why do you keep bringing up honorable mention like he was really the 3rd best point guard in the conference? If Gesellschaft really played like the 3rd best point guard in the conference, I would think he would be harder to replace.

I never said he would for sure be worse than Mike offensively. I said I would be thrilled if he could come close to matching Mike's numbers because of how he was recruited, his athletic ability and his size. I don't know how his career will end up, I'm just giving my opinion on how I think it will play out and my expectations are low.

I asked you how does it make sense for someone to say "JB is going to be a more efficient scorer than MG. He's a more aggressive and better shooter, it's as simple as that." You said that makes sense to you, I want to know how that makes sense since he's never played a minute of college basketball and was not a heralded recruit

I never said Gesell was the 3rd best PG in the conference. He was honorable mention behind the 1st, 2nd and 3rd All Big Ten teams and he wasn't the only PG that was honorable mention. Some people think CW and Bohannon are going to be better than Gesell and I simply said I don't think that is true. I don't know why people knock on Mike so much on here, he's 4th in school history in assists and holds the single season record plus scored. He is one of only three players in school history to ever put up1,000 points, 550 assists, 300 rebounds, and 150 steals in a career but CW (a lightly recruited wing being forced into playing PG) and Bohannon (a lightly recruited fallback) are going to be be better offensively than Mike was. Sorry I don't buy that.

Do you honestly think CW or Bohannon will be all conference anything in their careers at Iowa like Mike was? I don't

No one knows for sure how good a player will actually be until they play the game. A lot of it depends on the players basketball IQ and his mental aspect for the game. I wouldn't say he isn't athletic enough to be a great player, but a great athlete can be just average if he is missing other aspects for the game. Bohannon has been playing against high level competition all his life, and he has only prospered in basketball. He sounds like he will be a mentally tough guy once he relaxes on the court. He should be fun to watch.

Sorry I forgot there is a 3rd team. So that means he got credit for being the 16th-20th best player? I don't buy that either. His career stats are skewed because he started on a bad freshman so he played a lot of minutes. That and they played in Big 10 tournament games that they never used to have, made it to a championship game of the NIT, and played in 5 NCAA tournament games. Show me stats on where he was on points per minute played in his career. Show me how many assists he made by driving the lane, breaking down the defense, and finding the open player. Aaron White was an awesome player, but he isn't near where is stats say he should be history wise. Just played in a lot of games and played a lot as a freshman because the team sucked.

Are you serious? We went to the NIT Title game his freshman year. That team did not suck and will most likely be better than the team this year

I agree which is why I don't get why you said it makes sense for someone to say JB will be for sure more efficient offensively than Mike when Mike scored 1072 pts in his career plus is 4th all time in assists

I didn't say he would score more points, I said I feel confident that if he has the same minutes as Gesell that he would be more efficient. I've seen Gesell play with the talent he had on his teams, and with the talent Bohannon will have around him it should be a lot easier for Bohannon than what it was for Gesell.

Even though I don't agree with that I do respect your opinion. I just don't know how that other poster said JB would be more efficient offensively than Mike, simple as that. Bohannon could be a great player or could transfer out after this season for all we know

Let's get this strait. MG, and Adam Woodbury for that matter, were both honorable mention all conference as voted by the media. They were not honorable mention all conference as voted by the coaches. What's the difference? The media included 19 "honorable mentions" and the coaches included 12 last year. That means MG was roughly between the 25th-35th best player in the conference last year. Astounding!

Do I think CW as a senior starter can make honorable mention all conference, absolutely.

I really like the idea of having my backup PG as a knock down 3pt shooter. If I'm going to have a guy spell my starter for 10-20 minutes a night, I don't expect him to be an elite passer and defender, if he were he'd probably start. I like the idea of having a guy come in there who might give you one or two threes a night.

If he can do those other things decently and keep improving at them, he will be a nice bench player for us.

I respect that opinion but I don't think it's reasonable for people to think he'll be a top 35 player in the Big Ten this year which is why I don't get why people think we're not going to take a step back at the PG position. To each their own I guess
