Iowa Men's Hoops tonight at 5:30

Neither team has played anyone yet. The difference is ISU is crushing their cupcakes like a fat lady in a bakery, and Iowa is either losing to them or beating them lightly.

That said, Iowa will blow out SIU.

I hope ISU fans are not setting Fred up to roll him in February.

ISU was 6-0 last year and taking names. In their first five games, their margin of victory was 20, 22, 20, 41 and 21.

Seen this movie before.

Sorry guys, but I'm watching the game on the couch with my 2 yr old this time.
Choosing the real fam over the Hawkeye fan - I know, I'm a jerk. :)

I'll at least start a Game Thread that we can chime in on at different times.

Last year ISU had NCAA aspirations. Totally different movie this year. Last year people expected to see an Oscar nominated film and got a B movie. This year a B movie was the expectation so if doesn't go straight to DVD it's a good thing. There's hope that the sequel will be better than the original.

An NIT bid would be a major accomplishment and not expected at all. Last year was a trainwreck with defections and injuries and ****-poor play for whatever reason.

Your concern for ISU fans is humorous.

So you're choosing to watch the game with ONE 2 year old at home, instead of ALL of the 2 year olds HERE???

Come on, Seth. You know as well as I do that my tickets are on 46 yard line, 12 rows up. Stop making them out to be these awesome seats at the 50.

That wasn't the point. It was that you were denigrating ISU's schedule, when in reality, Iowa's isn't much (if any) better, and they aren't beating the cupcakes like ISU is.

I fully expect ISU to have many bumps in the road this year. Finishing .500 would be huge.

Any insults about ISU's schedule to this point are laughable, though, in relation to Iowa's schedule. You can't lose to the Jackrabbits and talk schedule smack, IMO.

Was Jon talking schedule smack or results smack? Figure that out first.

But if you want to talk about schedule.
According to KenPom, Iowa's SOS is 128, ISU's SOS is 253rd. Has ISU played anyone at the level of Xavier or Alabama like Iowa? Cyclones "best game was against Creighton, ranked 96th on KenPom. In case you were wondering, Long Beach State is just 5 spots below Creighton. Iowa hasn't played the best of the best, but ISU has played cupcakes so far. If you don't want to admit that, then I don't know what to tell you. Iowa has had a more difficult schedule than ISU, that's a fact.

Pretty sure he was implying that ISU hadn't played anyone, which is correct. But I just thought it was funny because Iowa hasn't either, and not only that, they haven't really beaten the cupcakes decisively...and have lost to some of them.

And according to RealTimeRPI, ISU's SOS is 55th, Iowa's is 192nd.

In your Creighton/LBS example, you made my point for me. ISU is beating their opponents, Iowa is not. If you're counting the Alabama win as a big win, then I don't know what to tell you. They lost to a St. Peter's team that is projected by KenPom to be a .500 team in a bad conference.

Well, Alabama is 69th in KenPom and Iowa beat them. Take that for what it's worth.

You were the one saying no one can talk about ISU's schedule because of the teams Iowa has lost to. That's silly. It's two topics of conversation. That's where you need to decide what you want to discuss.

I didn't say no one can talk about ISU's schedule. It's full of cupcakes, I admit that. I don't think they are entirely two different topics, either. They are related. Iowa's schedule is soft AND their results are bad. ISU's schedule is soft BUT they are taking care of business decisively, like teams should with cupcakes.

Just thought it odd that Jon would bring up ISU's schedule in this thread about Iowa hoops. Iowa's schedule isn't exactly difficult either, and the results aren't very good either.
