Iowa Basketball Recruits

Yeah, 25 rebounds is just stupid. Is he 8 foot tall now?
It's hard to score 25 pts in a HS game let alone 44 too. Especially when the other team is doing all they can to make it so his teammates have to beat them instead. 26 is my career high in HS and I had to make a lot of free throws to get it. I think I made 8 of 9 if my memory hasn't faded. I'm just always amazed when I see some of the crooked numbers a kid like him can do routinely.

I faced Jeff Horner in high school a bunch of times and our plan was always to box and 1 him...deny him the ball. I think the most he ever scored on us was 25 points or so. 45 points is just stupid

And the 25 rebounds. How does one kid get 25 rebounds?

Exactly. If you consider that one board is worth 2 pts and difficult boards are worth 3, that's like scoring 50 some points worth of rebounds in a high school game. Know what I'm sayin?

This is what happens when you're one of the best players in the country playing 3-A basketball. He's just so much better than everyone.

He must be getting a lot of offensive putbacks. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

At some point you'd think teams would just put 2 or even 3 defenders on him. Keep him from driving and keep him off the glass. Have a kid who doesn't play much just ride him for an entire quarter, muscle him around and foul out. Something like that. Problem is he sounds like a really good FT shooter as well.

He put up some points too in HS that's for sure. I was an undersized shooting guard. Brody Boyd type of player. I handled the ball some but mostly ran off screens to catch and shoot. We had a big guy that we played through for the most part so unless he felt like passing it out my touches were sporadic. Had a couple pretty good games but nothing that turned any heads. I never played against anyone that put up more then 30 I don't think. Again 25 is tough to do for 8 min quarters. I'd love to know what a 40 pt game felt like once.

I'm probably going to catch hell for this, but how is Patrick McCaffery supposedly ranked higher than Joe Wieskamp? I believe Pat is supposed to be top 30 while Joe is top 50 or 60. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Joe Wieskamp (4A) (6'6" or 6'7")

Only initial thought was Joes national class is better?? No idea if that is the case but would be could make sense why he’s ranked lower.

Possibly, but Pat's numbers don't exactly scream Top 30. Didn't Joe finish top 20 or 25 in that one NBA camp?

well, i think they're ranked by class and i also think Patrick is now 6'9" (pushing 6'10"). look at his film and ask yourself if that is normal agility and ball handling for a 6'9" 16 year old. PM is a lot of potential, to be sure, but he is very smooth and actually looks like he could be an even more athletic version of Nunge.

So, it's not so much where he is now, but based on his potential? I guess that doesn't do much service to these ranking systems/analysts.

The kid is already rated as a top one in his class overall. Hopefully folks are feeding him to put some weight on. He's a string bean for now. I think in 2 yrs this team is going to be scary good

well, that's always kind of been the rub with star rankings, etc. but a kid like JW who seems to be fully grown and will only add some weight can be better evaluated than a kid who is 2 yrs younger and has grown 4 inches in the last 1.5 years and appears to still be growing. its a crap shoot either way.

he makes a string bean look overweight, right now. :)

Patrick will be committed to Iowa while other kids will pass him up once they commit to blue bloods. He will end up lower than Wiescamp ends up more than likely.
