Interesting article on trying to increase ticket sales & better fan relations at Iowa

Comcast just dropped the BTN. The worm is finally turning on the BTN contract money. That's going to hurt the BTN budget. Considerably. Gutless Gary Barta has done irreparable damage to Iowa athletics and the payment on his many blunders are coming due.

What a joker. Like ticket revenue will make up for tv revenue and Barta has about 0 of anything to do with tv revenue. Although ticket revenue was a record last year. We want nice things but don't want to pay for them or we just want someone else to pay for the nice things while we get the stuff for free. We take secret joy in anything that causes the demise of Gary Barta or Kirk Ferentz. Think that about sums it up.

Great move marketing department. Send this out to the proles who won't be sitting in your fancy-pants seats anyway.

We’ve made great progress on renovations to Kinnick Stadium’s north end zone, and to celebrate, we invite you to a special, once-in-a-lifetime beam-signing event prior to the 2018 spring game at Kinnick Stadium.

Friday, April 20
Beam Signing
Gate G
Kinnick Stadium
6 p.m.

Spring Game
Kinnick Stadium
7 p.m.

This will be your opportunity to sign your name on a beam that will be placed in the new north end zone. Last revitalized in 1983, Kinnick Stadium’s north end zone is being enhanced with 1,600 premium seats, the Ted Pacha Family Club Room, an open-air concourse, and a videoboard, as well as new concessions and restrooms. Construction work on the project is expected to be completed before the start of the 2019 season.

We look forward to seeing you at Kinnick Stadium and helping us transform a steel beam from a building material into a permanent part of Hawkeye history!

Life is full of choices. Don't go to it. Received the same thing and I haven't sat in the north end zone in decades. They try to be nice and people just want to piss on them.

Has *zero* to do about being nice. They want to get a rent-a-crowd to entice people to buy the seats.

*Nice* would have been a way for the university to at least partially compensate people for the lost tax deduction regarding the preferred seating costs. Nope....Univ said too bad, so sad.

*Nice* would be workable wifi in the stadium, more men's bathrooms, retaining the food vouchers, anything really, aimed at the folks who buy tickets in the non-luxury box areas.

Barta's been living off the BTN revenue, while irreparably harming Iowa sports for the loyal Iowa fans. That does sum it up! The fact that TV money is going to tank (anyone familiar with ECON 101 should know) and completely expose his incompetence, pleases me to no end. I do want for his demise. He's incompetent and a liar.
I don't want for the demise of Kirk Ferentz. Not sure where you get that. I like KF as a person and I think he's a good football coach. Not a great football coach. Too conservative. I also have a problem with his family plan/ nepotism. I could live with KF if I thought we had a competent AD that would place certain demands on him. We don't.

"The fact that TV $ is going to tank" You can speculate, pass judgement, guess, research, etc. But at this point it is not a fact and there is no clear evidence that it will tank. You can wish for the demise of Barta, but this is the wrong horse to ride. BTW, as to living off the BTN revenue, so does the rest of the BT.

In a free market economy, everything tanks sooner or later. That is a fact. Unless you can name one stock or product that has never gone down.

Edit: seriously, if you know of a stock or product that has only climbed in value, throughout it's existence, please share. I'd like to get in on that.

You think TV networks are going to continue to shell out alll this money for sports programming? I get the demand for live TV rights will be there; unless, they can figure out a way to capitalize on streaming rights that revenue is going to go waaay down.

It’s not Econ101, but even a knucklehead like me can see that TV money, that bubble is about to burst.

we are anything but a free market economy

The whole pay a bunch of money to get in somewhere, only to get price gouged for food and drink the entire time you are there is ruining everything. If you paid good money to get it, it should be of some sort of benefit to you being there versus somebody on the outside of the event. Right now its the total opposite. Stay home where its warm, drink your cheap store-bought case of beer, and enjoy whatever food you want at retail price. Or, go to the game, get charged a whole bunch to get in, endure the weather and the stiff seating, and spend a fortune on food and *non*-alcoholic drinks.

I read this article a while back about the Atlanta Falcon's fan-friendly concession price strategy, and it makes total sense. If you price stuff reasonably, people will buy more of it and you'll make more money. What a concept!

Don't attempt to introduce "fan friendly common sense" to the Gutless one.

Need more? I do agree that TV revenues will tank once the older generation dies off. Cable Stats

31% of ages 18-29 have cable compared to 84% of age 65+

Is that strictly due to preference or disposable income? Hard to say.

Wifi is for people not really interested in watching football on the field. I bet if you were female you would realize they need more female restrooms before male. Watch the lines and see what I mean. I could care less about the food voucher deal. Food outside at tailgate or on Melrose way better than Aramark food.

Compensate for lost tax deduction???? You will be paying overall lower taxes so why should Iowa give you even more? Again we want nice stuff but we don't want to pay for it.
