Interesting article on trying to increase ticket sales & better fan relations at Iowa

I've lost nothing and you're money and the cops again have nothing to do with each other.

?? Can you read? "Literally having liquor has never been an issue where I'm tailgating." Can ya?
If you don't get how the cops harraament of an Iowa fan, on University property, costs the University my money....you're too stupid to understand what you're attempting to argue.

I have been a season ticket holder for a lot of years. I have never even been approached by law enforcement. I have not seen law enforcement approach other tailgaters in my area or as I walk to the game through the busiest tailgate areas around Kinnick. I have not seen very many people who are visibly intoxicated. I have never seen a "checkpoint." I was once stopped at a random check point in Arkansas where they are allowed by state law. My first and only breathalyzer and I was a nervous wreck even though I did not for a minute think I was intoxicated; came out .01. So, yeah, I know it can be scary to be confronted by law enforcement. I guess all I am saying is that over many years, I have not noticed any real changes in the enforcement around Kinnick. The so-called crackdown apparently initiated by the U of I administration was invisible to me.

The last checkpoint I saw was maybe 4 or 5 years ago on west bound melrose after the game. Random pull overs. And why are you worried about that because if you have been drinking and over the limit get the hell off the road.

There was a period there they got after open containers on city property, so melrose sidewalks, etc., but that has been relaxed again for quite some time.

You should have filed a suit, dude its Iowa City you might win it!

From these figures, does the school really need to strong-arm the loyal season ticket holders for their discretionary income?

And again, I got a mass-produced publication from the Iowa athletic department immediately after the new tax plan was unveiled. It dealt with the elimination of the "excise tax" deduction. Their stance..."well, too bad for you, we're not retracting or modifying anything for 2018."

In other words, they will be milking the season ticket holders yet again and will sit back and see how season ticket sales go.

Who they gonna get it from? TV is TV and is set by the man at the top of the conference. We need the money to stay relevant. Maybe Kutcher is not giving all his wealth to offset ticket increases for us all. They instituted the seat premium deal back in like 2005, and from what I recall it has stayed static with just the base ticket prices changing. we want attendance or we don't want attendance, we want nice stuff or we don't want nice stuff. Just seems we want people to go and want the top of the line facilities and stuff for the athletes and want it to come out of nowhere or from someone else.

Yeah sorry I just struggled to comprehend that you are the only one that tailgates and your unnecessary inclusion of the word "literally" in your original comment.

I can't say I've ever had figurative liquor before but now I'm curious!

This is consistent with my experience as well. I have had season tickets since 1989, and I noticed a spike in objectionable behavior that preceded the crackdown. It was getting to the point that I questioned bringing my son to games. It may have been the 1% ruining it for the 99%, but ruin it they did. I was glad they started to crack down. It seems to me that the pendulum is swinging back to a more tolerant posture again. Just don't be a dick and you have nothing to worry about.

I've seen over-reaction by police on Melrose, such as seven cops surrounding a player's mom who had an open container on a public sidewalk. Granted she was stupid to do it, but they guarded her like she was El Chapo, when one or two cops could have quietly written the citation. Clearly, they were trying to make their dominating presence known to all who walked by. Worked great, except for all the others with open containers who weren't cited.

66,337 average and 22nd in the nation in attendance, plenty of people are still going to the games.

Great move marketing department. Send this out to the proles who won't be sitting in your fancy-pants seats anyway.

We’ve made great progress on renovations to Kinnick Stadium’s north end zone, and to celebrate, we invite you to a special, once-in-a-lifetime beam-signing event prior to the 2018 spring game at Kinnick Stadium.

Friday, April 20
Beam Signing
Gate G
Kinnick Stadium
6 p.m.

Spring Game
Kinnick Stadium
7 p.m.

This will be your opportunity to sign your name on a beam that will be placed in the new north end zone. Last revitalized in 1983, Kinnick Stadium’s north end zone is being enhanced with 1,600 premium seats, the Ted Pacha Family Club Room, an open-air concourse, and a videoboard, as well as new concessions and restrooms. Construction work on the project is expected to be completed before the start of the 2019 season.

We look forward to seeing you at Kinnick Stadium and helping us transform a steel beam from a building material into a permanent part of Hawkeye history!

Public road...use your head

Is there really any reason for you to be there that long after a game?

Def more cops in specific places

Literally having liquor has never been an issue where I'm tailgating.

Haven't had any problems with the rest of this either, but I don't own private property in IAC.

Are the places you're walking around are also part of the campus and not a public road?

Use my head.....c'mon man. It was never an issue....ever...until Sally unleashed her hoard.
Do people want to tailgate well past two hours to be with friends they haven't seen in a year and watch some college FB...you bet...and why not?
They must not have seen your tailgate then. Liquor in the open on Kinnick property was forbidden during Sally's meltdown.
And yes, the Univ Heights cops were walking through private property tailgate areas just off of Melrose and several times, looking for 'things.'
Your points are irrelevant. Mine speak to the bigger picture that Iowa turned up the heat for no apparent reason other than Sally Mason didn't like college sports at her own institution and like many idealouges in education, attempted to pose her will on others. Short sighted and wrong.

X was never an issue until X became an issue.....Where X = anyfuckthing.

It's college property, I don't blame them for not wanting people sitting around forever afterward. Can't you go somewhere else and have dinner, picnicking, or whatever who cares go somewhere.

"Mine speak to the bigger picture that Iowa turned up the heat for no apparent reason" No apparent reason?? Lmfao
