In-State PG D.J. Carton Places Hawkeyes Among Top 6

Literally everyone that has more credibility than a random message board poster says its Michigan but OK, I'm sure you're right.

the experts with cred are guessing just like me bud. The only one who knows is DJ and that was just my opinion. I feel like Iowa is in the lead. Why? Iowa was in the earliest of the schools he listed, he dropped WI who was 1st I believe. Fran has made him a priority and has 2 other 4 stars signed that he is familiar with and played with. His family is less then an hour away. He's Iowa's to lose and I honestly don't think they will lose him to someone other then a blue blood. That's just my opinion.

Completely agree on this. There are times those Crystal Ball's are spot on. If DJ were to come out and say he was committing in a week, and then 3 Crystal Ball's all go to a school, then someone knows something and they are pretty dang spot on. When these come out of nowhere after a top 6 was released and all the CB's moved from a team that was eliminated to another team it literally means nothing.

right - "he's good - Michigan is good - I bet he goes there"... I'm an expert.

Over under of two weeks until we hear about Roy, Coach K, Self, and/or Calipari on this kid?
To top it off, DJ is one of 30 kids to tryout in Colorado for the 18U team.... 12 spots available. Self is the coach who gets to pick and coach the top 12...

Yeah the deck is always stacked for the blue bloods... That's a ton of hands on time with those kids the rest of the college coaches don't get..

He gone lol

Probably never was realistic, but some kids like to buck the trend. Either way if Fran can't land Carton and doesn't find a stud PG in next year's class then the writing is probably on the wall. He won't survive another 4 years without a good back court and I just don't see Connor being good enough to keep that from happening.

They're not just guessing, they're talking with sources, coaches, players, other people they've built relationships with over the years who have actual information. Who are you speaking with? You don't have to name names, just let me know how many insiders with actual knowledge you've reached out to?

Then why were all the Crystal Ball's for Wisconsin and they didn't make the top 6?

Like I said before if a kid announces he is going to commit and people start CB him to a school, there is a source. These picks for Michigan are guesses, just like the picks for Wisconsin were for DJ. If there were sources who knew, then all the Iowa writers would know as well, but there just isn't anything. That said Michigan, OSU and Iowa are supposedly the ones at the top of his list.

Crystal Balls are educated predictions, as opposed to random fan predictions, but they are far from perfect.

The problem with players like D.J. is that they themselves don't really have a good idea of where they are going, so the Crystal Balls become even more random.

I think at this point it's anyone's guess, but my gut feeling is that being a program close to home isn't a great advantage with him. Our two chips in the game are Patrick (first and foremost), and the fact that Fran is going all-out with him. After that, it's nothing but "cross your fingers and hope."

to your point, now Iowa is recruiting Noah Hutchins our of NY in Andrew Francis' back yard. So, opening up recruiting with another pg tells me the writing on the wall is DJ ain't pulling trigger for Iowa and neither is Terry. So, for now, it appears to be Locure and Hutchins. But, Hutchins is a baller, man. He's a combination of DJ and Locure, in my opinion and plays in a tough, grind it out, AAU system.

remember, he's only 5'11".

His tape is impressive. He reminds me a bit of Dean Oliver. I'm surprised he doesn't have any major offers. I'd take him over Terry assuming he's a good student and has good character.

I like the fact that he keeps his head up and spine straight. He also is adept with either hand, and has a very nice first step. My guess is that his only weakness is an inconsistent outside jumper, but that can come with coaching. He's got the twitchiness, and you can't coach that. Nice find by the coaching staff.

Fran also said his son Patrick could start college as a walk-on if it helped Iowa land two recruits in Patrick's 2019 class.

Would likely be a mistake to think we're moving on from current PG candidates simply due to some new names arising. The only writing on the wall I see from his statement is Fran is willing to take two additions to the roster if they move the needle as he terms it.

FWIW, talked to a friend from Minneapolis who said he heard that Iowa has almost completely backed off on Terry. He apparently is a very strong Stanford lean at this point.

Fran probably saw the writing on the wall, or perhaps Terry said something to Patrick (which is my guess).

I agree that it is a mistake to think we are moving on, per se, but, historically, new offers at a position often end up being a heralding sign that the coaching staff sense that prospects are slipping out of their grasps. It doesn't necessarily mean they have thrown in the towel, but they have to hedge their bets.
