Im tired of moral victories

Im tired of the statement "Wait until next year".

Im tired of 3 bad years for 2 good years.

Im tired of apologists

Im tired of paying a coach 3.75 mil per year for what might be.

Im just tired of being outcoached at half time.

Im tired of thinking a 34-24 loss is a win.

Im tired.

My expectation is to be a national power. What s your expectation?

I understand how you feel. But it's reality and we all have to deal with it. There are more talented players across the country who year in and year out choose Ohio State, Alabama, LSU etc. Basketball is the same way..the top recruits choose Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Michigan State. We aren't going to wake up anytime soon and have it be a different story. When we can go into Columbus and play one of the best teams in the country toe to toe for pretty much the whole game...you accept it and take the positives out of it. If the Iowa Basketball team hangs with Kansas or Duke for most of a game and loses late cause they are just too talented, you accept it and be happy they hung tough. What can you do? It's the way of the world man. Sorry

For ****'s sake. Even when Iowa WAS a nation power (Evy), we struggled to win in Columbus (Evy was 1-3 in Cbus, 4-4 overall). Iowa has beaten OSU on the road just 7 times. Like, ever. And four of those wins came before Ferentz was even born (he's 58, for those of you who might be curious).

Anybody who's ****** about losing in Columbus with a team like this is a moron. Far, FAR better Iowa teams have lost there, and not just better Ferentz-era teams.

nicely put.

i stomached the call in show for a few calls, but had to shut it off after hok fans biatching about this loss, and a couple calling for the days of Fry to return.....more revisionist history hoks, i guess. heck, even fry's best team didn't win in columbus. and that game had a ton on the line for iowa, and wasn't the best era in buck football by a long shot.

well while I agree with many of your sentiments - today was not a day to be all that upset at the coaching staff.

Today they got beat by a team with better players and coaching.

It's when they lose to MAC teams with coaches getting paid 1/6 of Ferentz that I have a problem with.

If you can't tell this team is making progress...you don't know anything about football. OSU's a pretty good offensive football team...and Miller is pretty sick, especially when he throws it like he did today. Unfortunately, both Cook and Miller had great games against us. I get wanting a team to work to score, but at some point, you have to start taking some chances with blitz packages and making guys uncomfortable. I know we could give up big plays, but allowing what happened in the second half today with the slow death march where our defense just gets gassed because they are out there forever, isn't exactly getting it done either.

I'm pleased with the progress this team is making, especially offensively. They looked like they knew who they are today, and were confident they could execute the game plan. Now, you need to do it for 60 minutes. I said in another thread that this looks like 2008 to me. The team is learning how to win and it's a process. I'm not sure the defense is anywhere near that D, but it's getting much better. I like where we are going and I honestly think, outside of Wisconsin, we can beat the other teams we play. Wisky just looks to be playing really well right now. At least Stave can't move like Miller.

While I dont agree with everything the OP said verbatim they are all valid. Not everyone jumps on or falls of the teams wagon for the same reasons. Using pay is irrelevant to me because whos going to even ask for a pay decrease for any reason let alone when you are not meeting expectations of people you don't work for. I do see how its the butt of jokes and thats sad our coach is really looked at as joke that hurts the program a lot and is hard to root for that guy. I missed the game was glad to hear they made it a game we talked about it at work it was fun to have hope but they did what was expected and got great valuable meaningful game experience. It is correct not a moral victory at all to lose to Ohio St nearly every time you play them history can suck its self this is now it would be awesome to turn that all around now :)

Im tired of 3 bad years for 2 good years.

Read the sig! It's 3 bad for 3 good.

In all seriousness, Iowa is a second tier program in a major conference. Every now and then they will have their shot when the chips fall right. Now, I think the fan base can expect the drop offs not to be so extended or severe. That could happen if KF would pay more attention to JUCO recruiting. But if you really want more, you need to switch to a different team or you will be tired for the rest of your life.

If you are that tired, go find a pine box and lay down. No one has to apologize for what happened today.

And anyone who thinks we were badly outcoached in the second half needs to watch the first half. OSU had 3 possessions (not counting the kneel down on the last play), they scored twice and stalled out after picking up a 4th and long at our 30 only to be called back for an unnecessary downfield hold. The second half was more of the same without the big mental lapse in the secondary. We struggled against braxton miller making athletic plays - he kind of does that some time. Iowa wasn't as effective in the second half, but it wasn't like we just got outcoached and never had a chance.

To summarize, you don't have to take a moral victory, you can leave now and don't have to wait for next year, you aren't paying the coach anything, you weren't outcoached at half time, and no one thinks this is a win, but that doesn't imply there were not positives. No one in that locker room or around the program gives two sh!ts what your expectations are, or mine.

My expectation is to be a national power. What s your expectation?

I expect you're going to die tired then.

I guess first, what do you mean when you say National Power? Top 25 program> Here are programs who are in that conversation right now:

Bama, Florida, A&M, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina
Oklahoma, Texas
Oregon, USC, Stanford
Florida State, Clemson, Miami
Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State

Not mentioned but could turn it around much quick than Iowa or are much closer: Nebraska, Tennessee, Auburn, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State.

This is just for starters. Wanting Iowa to be something is great, we all do. But the reality is everyone else is trying, too...and a lot of other places have bigger and better advantages than Iowa has, or will ever have. One thing that is never going to change for Iowa is where it's located. We all know its a great place to live and raise kids...but to some, it's not gonna be their choice when compared to other places with a history of championships, or warmer climates, etc.

those of you who want to call that the little ole Iowa syndrome, come up with ways to overcome that objection and bring em back. Just a hint, you can't do this:

Moral victories-it's what we Hawkeyes live for.

I don't see a moral victory. What I see is a team that went on the road and played fairly well, and lost. They lost because the talent on the other sideline is much, much higher at almost each and every position.

Those are just the facts. We win that game one out of 10 times probably at best.....yesterday wasn't that day.
