Moral victories-it's what we Hawkeyes live for.
That couldn't be less true. Before yesterday, I cannot recall the last time Iowa lost a game that many fans regarded as a "moral victory."

The OP brings valid points to the table on a broader and accurate basis.
Ferentz is the 6th highest paid coach, nationally.
Our football program is at least the 15th largest and most profitable, nationally.
Iowa's ticket price is 9th highest, nationally.
Where are the results since the bar was raised a few years ago by "the contract."?
I expect to be at least competing for at least Division or Conference Titles at least every other year based on the above money being spent on this program. Ferentz has gotten everything he wanted over the last 5 years, facilities money etc..
Where are the trophies?
That's not a response to my comment. Before yesterday, when was the last time there were a large contingent of fans claiming a moral victory during the Ferentz era? I say basically never, or at least not since 99-00.

I guess I don't remember the last moral victory discussions. This week, however, was a steady stream of " if we can just keep it close..." Loser mentality and does not mesh with the stated financials of the Iowa Football Incorporated of 2013.

Again, even when Iowa was a top tier national program, we hardly ever won in Columbus. You're calling people out for having been realistic in believing we wouldn't win this week. Seven win in C-bus in program history, only three in the last 60 years and none in the last 22. Pardon those of us who thought winning in The Shoe with this year's team, against this year's OSU, wasn't going to happen.
One more time: If you're genuinely ****** about this loss and/or seriously expected a win, you're either a fan aged 5-13, or just an idiot.
Didn't expect to win at OSU.
My expectations for the football Program are listed above. Not unrealistic for the huge dollars that are being dumped into Iowa football the last few years.

I don't see a moral victory. What I see is a team that went on the road and played fairly well, and lost. They lost because the talent on the other sideline is much, much higher at almost each and every position.
Those are just the facts. We win that game one out of 10 times probably at best.....yesterday wasn't that day.
If you can't tell this team is making progress...you don't know anything about football. OSU's a pretty good offensive football team...and Miller is pretty sick, especially when he throws it like he did today. Unfortunately, both Cook and Miller had great games against us. I get wanting a team to work to score, but at some point, you have to start taking some chances with blitz packages and making guys uncomfortable. I know we could give up big plays, but allowing what happened in the second half today with the slow death march where our defense just gets gassed because they are out there forever, isn't exactly getting it done either.
I'm pleased with the progress this team is making, especially offensively. They looked like they knew who they are today, and were confident they could execute the game plan. Now, you need to do it for 60 minutes. I said in another thread that this looks like 2008 to me. The team is learning how to win and it's a process. I'm not sure the defense is anywhere near that D, but it's getting much better. I like where we are going and I honestly think, outside of Wisconsin, we can beat the other teams we play. Wisky just looks to be playing really well right now. At least Stave can't move like Miller.
I didnt expect a win. And thats the sad part of the story. Because, historically we havent won in Columbus, we shouldnt win there? That is a problem. We should create a new history. What a novel idea. Some of the teams mentioned earlier, sure have. Oregon, Stanford to name 2. So it is possible.
Im ready for it. Im ready to see Iowa in the top 10 every year. But when the fan base is okay with 8-4 because that gets us to Tampa in January and out of the cold, there really isnt a motivation.
This was the only strategy we could use to keep this game close. If we gambled on dee,we get burned big time. Our hope was that OSU makes mistakes and turns the ball over as they march up and down the field. It also ate the clock ,thus cutting down on the number of times they get the ball keeping the score close. I didn't watch.I didn't watch
any of that ISU -Baylor fiasco, but the only way you score that much is big play after big play.
Too bad we couldn't sustain our success moving the ball in the 2nd half as we did in the 1st to keep the ball out of their hands. All in all...I can see the improvement. I just hope we don't go backwards against NW.
