About coach Ferentz, I would urge you to view Jamari Harris post game interview from yesterday. I certainly have been critical at times but now as a man with a son my perspective is changing. Call it getting old or whatever you want. I can only hope he has a coach someday to learn and play for like Ferentz.

Babineaux was on pre-game radio show and said he owed Kirk everything about being a man and preparing him to be a pro.

Nobody ever said he’s not a good guy, he just doesn’t understand modern offense and get crushed every time he plays elite teams.
1) Who's your suggested replacement that would (realistically) come here?

2) What's your shtf plan for the musical coaches game that would happen if your candidate was worse, or didn't work out, or got poached by a billion dollar blue blood after having success here, especially now that there are only going to be two super conferences in a couple years with teams putting 10 figures into their football programs down south?

I am admittedly not the world's biggest KF fan. I've proven that on my time on this board. But you people wanting KF to be fired either don't see the forest for the trees or you just don't understand how P4 football programs work. Coaching changes are fine if you have nothing to lose. There's no downside. But it's an exponentially higher chance that whoever they hire ends up a burnt turd that's way more likely to turn the program into something that would make the current one look like the 2000s Patriots. And then what do you do? You think once that happens that Iowa is going to be a nice appealing below zero place in a bunch of corn fields that the next Kirby Smart wants to come coach football against the Big Ten and soon-to-be SEC? But yep, let's fire KF...

Pretty sure there's a great little case study in what's going to happen taking place right now an hour west of Council Bluffs.

Back to a little sliver of seriousness, though...what are your answers to the two questions I had above?

Iowa will have to eventually answer question one. I'm pretty sure fans on this forum are not qualified to answer it. Question two is based on a hypothetical situation that may or may not happen. It isn't just the folks in Lincoln that have struggled to replace a long time coach. Texas went through a couple of coaches before landing on Sarkisian.

What the future holds for college football may not include the University of Iowa and several Big Ten teams. When Ohio State found $21M for transfers to compete for a national championship one must wonder if this is an activity where Iowa can participate. Hiring the next coach may not be an issue if it is unrealistic to participate.

It will include Iowa. Yes, we are not OSU, but few are. OSU and Bama and Texas and Oregon need someone to play. The reality is that we need to get dark money out, and pay these players through the massive TV revenue that is garnered and do so with some level of equality between the schools that are in this brave new world. If you think about it 21 million aint shit compared to the TV money each school is getting. That number should be doubled and capped so that each team is on a somewhat level playing field.

Iowa is not a blue blood, but its serious and entrenched enough in one of the two conferences that matter that it will get a seat at the table when the NCAA is left behind. 100% confident of that.

Question 2...if you look at college football teams as a whole they end up with a nebraska-type scenario way more often than not, so I don't think it's anywhere near a 50/50 proposition. Not even close. How many teams do you see that have decades of winning seasons and stability get better after a new hire? It's not very many. How many do you see go south and then have 3 head coaches in 10 years? That happens a whole lot. The odds of things falling apart are, like I said, exponentially higher than going from frequent 10-win seasons to being even better and making the CFP.

Mentioning Texas in the same breath as Iowa when it comes to football is ignorant. UT has literal billions in oil money, national brand recognition, a national fan base, and their own TV network. The two entities could not be more different from one another

Very good point. You also left off the fact that there's 30 million people in Texas compared to a little over 3 million in Iowa. That's at least 10 times our population which exponentially blows us out of the water in terms of instate recruiting targets not to mention they're a blue blood. You're absolutely right. We're not Texas and no where close.

One aspect that I think will be interesting to watch. When Kirk steps down, no matter which way Goetz goes, I think we'll see staff movement. Say she goes with an outside hire and the staff departs.

Maybe Wallace (or someone else) takes a head non-P4 job. Who are "his guys" who follow him there? Which ones go a different direction? Does Brian re-unite with some of the current assistants somewhere?

And same thing if Goetz promotes Wallace or Woods. I think it's likely a few will move on.

The only two crucial ones are Woods and Parker.

Parker is gone either way. 26 years with one boss who you like and who you know probably better than anyone on earth. Woods nor Wallace are going to tell Parker how to run his squad and if it's an outsider the whole staff is gone anyway. So when KF leaves, there's no scenario Parker stays.

Woods, he's gone too. He's got lots of HC interest and he's also not going to work under Wallace. Again, an outsider is going to bring in his own gang and clean house.

Wallace, if he gets the job I'm respectfully saying I'm bowing out of Iowa football until the day he's fired or quits. I won't support someone who did what he did to Kallenberger. No way. He's a disgusting human being. I know what ADD can do to a kid first hand under the best of circumstances, let alone with a scumbag like this bullying you off the team, posting your grades, and making life miserable for you...If you forgot the details I suggest anyone goes and checks out Kallenberger's twitter posts about what he had done to him.

I mean just look at this POS...Any of us born from 1975 on had a kid who looked just like this in the halls just waiting for someone to come along they could toss in a locker or call a "f****t." Eff Seth Wallace.

Mind you, I'm not done with Iowa football permanently after that happens, just until he's gone. If he's the new HC, I hope Iowa loses every single game they play and he's run off as a laughing stock to some high school assistant job in Kalamazoo.

Yep, that's how I really feel and I HATE it because I think there's a very real and very stupid chance he gets it.

Right, but I'm saying if it is an outside hire it'll be interesting to see which staff members stick together when they leave Iowa...particularly if one lands as a head coach.

For sure.

My post was just a side rant that took things off the rails. Disregard.

I'm now more confused about my feelings for Kirk than ever. Yes. The game has changed.
But, I'll be damned, there's still a home for Kirkball. And I'm here for it. Because I like college football and runningbacks who are used to run for yards, not explicitly to keep defenses honest.

It's not going to win a championship. Not without a convergence of the twain and have Beathard/Banks at the same time you have a Kittle/Hockensen as well as a Kaleb Johnson, an above average (for Parkers) defense, and at least 1-2 of the 'big time' linemen we had in some previous eras. Also, injury luck. That's just a lot that has to happen in a given season.

Still early going, but there's no reason to think that if they can run the ball like they have against MN and WA, that they can't do that against anyone else left on their schedule. The only other Big 10 team I think they would lose to is PSU. Doesn't mean they can't or won't cough up one or more. But they absolutely could (should?) beat anyone but PSU. And PSU, to me, they always have "an any given Saturday" chance.

I'm totally fine when Kirkball works. It's BROOOODILL to watch when it doesn't...like the last few years. But, I can also live without a national title.

I'm much happier about Kirk at this point and am back to being at least tentatively happy that he's staying on.

A guy from the outside will clean house. Will he keep anyone? Maybe Woods. Maybe Parker. But I think Fry is right. Those two will be gone When KF retires. In house hire? Maybe some carry over.

I really think Lester has changed the O significantly in the run game. Variety of blocking theories used, interesting misdirection, pre-snap motion, head set with QB. Play calling more imaginative, for sure. Jury is out on the pass game, but I see some flashes.

So. You think there is a chance?
I never used to but after they gave him that fake associate head coach title I started to think there was some kind of back channel madness going on that he's potentially going to be the one.

Here's where I sit...

Phil won't stay after KF leaves for the reasons I outlined above.

Woods is in my opinion the best guy on the current staff. I know the guy, I've talked to lots of his former players, and I've heard from people very in the know that Woods wants it and wants to be a head coach. He's turned down P4 coordinator interest from other places. He's an Iowa guy through and through and has deep roots put down with his family to this point and doesn't want to move. However, this Wallace deal has to have put a dark cloud over Woods' future here unfortunately.

My hope now is that when KF leaves Beth Goetz will either hire Woods or someone from outside and Wallace will leave whether voluntarily or involuntarily. Unfortunately I'm not holding my breath for LeVar. That doesn't translate to me wanting Kirk fired. But I know he's not going to last forever.

If Wallace becomes HC I will shift my fandom temporarily to wherever LW goes and root for them. If it's Chattanooga State then I guess I'm buying some Chattanooga State hoodies. The Hawkeye football program is bigger than Seth Wallace, but I can't root for a team with that guy as the face of it. No way could I look my kid in the face if I did. He's young and full of piss and vinegar and a rabid Hawkeye fan so I won't try to get him to follow my lead, but for me I'm done.
