"IF" this is indeed Kirk's swan song, who do you want?

Parker is a great coach but I don’t think he would be a great CEO. I don’t see him enjoying or tolerating for very long media, fundraising, and all the other stuff that is asked more and more of the head coach. I don’t see him moving the needle in NIL or fundraising
Parker is way too smart to become a head coach.

Iowa has a press conference after the season and KF retires. They say, “Introducing the next coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes…”
Then the sound system blares out…..
IF YA SMELLLLL!
That’s right! Finally the ROCK has come back to college football!

I feel like my Zac Taylor suggestion needs some discussion. :) The premise from Fry is that Beth was "going after someone big" and if they land him, he will replace KF. That does not feel like an internal elevation. Again, I would be very disappointed if the best Beth thinks Iowa deserves is an internal hire. And if that were the case, what exactly is she "going after?" Every one of the three internal candidates would jump at this chance in a heartbeat. Why all the cloak and dagger?

Beth strikes me as someone who is going to shoot bigger than that. Zac Taylor. He is young. Has a good mind for offense and QBs. Was an NFL HC. Probably will not get another such gig in the near term, so why not move back to college and build some stability in his life? He has experience at the college and pro levels. He has some Big10/Midwest ties. He is a former Husker and every time he would beat them it would leave a shit taste in every Husker fan's mouth even more than normal. Actually, the last reason is all I need. Sign him Beth!!!

He may not be interested in being a HC, but I think he'd be a great HC. Players respect him, coaches respect him and he seems to be a perfectionist with his defenses. He'd also be my top pick on the staff followed by Lavar. But, he ain't gunna be a head coach, unfortunately.
Bill Bilechick......Jordan Hudson can spark any offense!

If she is bypassing the search process, I'd guess she isn't hiring an NFL coach. Best I can tell Taylor only had a couple years experience as a tight ends coach in college after serving as a grad assistant. Not saying he wouldn't qualify, but I think she'd want to see who else might be interested with head coaching experience in college.

I don't think it'll be Matt Campbell, but this is the kind of scenario that would make sense. Some kind of initially clandestine, high level convos through third parties. He agrees only if the position is guaranteed without any kind of interviewing process with multiple candidates. Again, I don't think it'll be him, but that would be a hell of a hire in my opinion and I think you can make the argument for why he'd want it (especially growing up a Big Ten guy).

Assume you'd take DeBoer in a heartbeat? I don't think it'll be Chris Petersen, but that was my wild, pie in the sky scenario. He's only like 60, retired in his mid 50s, and apparently thinks about coaching again. He turned down his pick of blue blood jobs while at Boise State because he wanted the UW position...mostly because he thought it had huge upside without the insanity. He is basically a 10 year younger version of Kirk, with more success. If he ever gets back into coaching, I'd guess it would be a unique place like Iowa (not a blue blood) with a boss like Goetz.

I have no reason to think he is the mystery candidate, but that's the type of coach where Goetz catches wind of his interest and there is zero hesitation to bypassing a search (or gently prodding Kirk along). It's hard to come up with a long list of those types...

I went through my previous posts because I wanted to be sure, but I didn't say it was someone big. Also didn't say it was a no-namer either.

Frankly, I'm enjoying the poop show on these threads. It's kinda like I used to tell my kid he was really gonna like a certain one of his Christmas presents all the way back in November. The torture of him asking what it was but not saying anything for a couple months made me giggle. But I digress.

I have no idea if this person will agree to be the next HC which makes it even funnier. I love this board. It's our own little Island of Misfit Toys.

I would be enjoying this if I were you too.

Your last sentence tells me all I need to know. If you know who the target is and you are not sure if they will take the job, it aint an internal hire. The three internal candidates would all take the job on the spot. There is no recruiting or convincing needed. Beth is going after someone outside and someone who will be great if she can land him.

Do you think I didn't think of how that could be taken when I posted that?
Real suggestion for you. You should videotape yourself saying what you know with a time stamp. If it turns out to be legit information, you can post it and prove you had the goods.

I mean if KF is still the coach next season, you will never live this one down. You have put yourself way, way out there on this deal, Fry. You are either going to be a big time hero or big time goat over this issue. Big time.

No way. I don't care enough. The only information I posted was what I was told, not how it's going to end up turning out.

I'll be wrong no problem. Hence why my earlier posts all said do with it what you will and that I could be wrong. There's plenty of stuff here and in the real world I'll never live down. None of it bothers me and it's still a great giggle seeing people get their underoos wadded up.

I am not seeing anyone else putting this out there. You are out on a limb my friend. I fear for you.

Seth Wallace would be about the most disappointing thing Beth could possibly do here. There would be no guarantees that he could win the way that KF did, but we would guarantee a boring brand of football with low fan access and engagement. Cannot imagine donors would want this. Makes zero sense. It will be someone external or it will be KF next year. Fry's reputation is on the line!
