What adjustments will McCollum make?

After going 0-3 on the road, what adjustments do you think Mc will make?

Heck, I'm a guy with a wrestling background so take it for what it's worth, but...

It seems to me the offense Iowa ran vs nonconference teams relied a lot on pick and roll action with Stirtz around the top of the key...followed by Stirtz turning toward the basket and making cute little 'pocket passes' to the screener as they drove to the basket. Have you noticed those pocket passes have been completely absent from Iowa's offense in BTen games?

Pretty clear BTen defensive coaches have already figured out a way to stop that part of Mc's offense cold. Maybe they're just having their players going under the screen and staying between the screener and the basket -- willing to let Stirtz shoot a jumper from there -- shots that he seems reluctant to shoot.

As far as the FT discrepency on the road goes, will he try to get more guys driving the lane? I.e. shorter guys driving into the trees which are most BTen centers?

This season isn't Mc's first rodeo, but it IS his first season in the BTen. And adjustments ain't gonna be easy with this roster.

You may want to listen to Mc’ s press conference post game.

Exactly. He pretty much lays it all out there. Lots to tighten up. Rather be in the position we’re in now than where we were this point last season. Figuring out how to make the fouls discrepancy is up there. 3 point shooting has to improve, felt this was going to be an issue from the very few stats and scores that came from the two secret scrimmages before the season started. One thing that stood out to me was from Stirtz post game interview. Here’s the quote, “We just get so negative around each other when we’re down, especially in road environments,” said Iowa guard Bennett Stirtz, who played only 8½ first-half minutes after getting two early fouls. “We’ve got to learn to stay positive even when things go wrong.”

BM and staff know how to win games; they just need to execute better.

There is only so much they can do with the currrent roster and I believe they are doing what they can with this roster.

The B1G has bigger and more athletic talent than they are used to or prepared for. Over the next 2-3 years we need to upgrade our talent, get bigger. We will be facing teams with lots of bigs and lots of talent and we need to be able to compete on that level. We aren't there yet.

One thing I would do now is see if we can't start playing Jirak more at the 5. We need his size inside.

With the defensive pressure we are getting our guys aren't able to hit shots they way they have so far. Can we do better here?

I'm really happy with the way this team has performed so far. We were never destined to be be B1G champs this year. We can go to the dance and maybe even make a run. I hope we keep improving thru conference play and go into the postseason playing good ball. We are not going to win out by any means. But we can compete in every game and that's what BM wants.
